Chapter 6: When Alphas Collide

“Stay behind me, Aria… and don’t say a word when he sees you.” My breath caught. The way Kael said it wasn’t a suggestion. It was a command. “I’m not hiding,” I said immediately, even though my heart was already racing. “You’re not hiding,” he replied calmly. “You’re surviving.” Before I could argue again The doors burst open. The sound echoed through the hall like thunder. And then He walked in. Damian. My chest tightened painfully at the sight of him. He looked exactly the same… and completely different at the same time. Still tall. Still powerful. Still the man who had once been my entire world. But now There was something darker in his expression. Something sharper. His eyes scanned the room quickly calculating, searching And then they landed on me. Everything stopped. The air. My breath. Time itself. “Aria.” My name fell from his lips like it belonged there. Like nothing had changed. Like he hadn’t My chest tightened. Kael shifted slightly in front of me. Not blocking me. Positioning himself. A silent warning. Damian’s gaze flicked to him, and for the first time since he entered His expression hardened. “So it’s true,” Damian said slowly. “You’re here.” His voice wasn’t loud. But it carried. Heavy with meaning. “I don’t recall granting you entry into my territory,” Kael replied. Cold. Controlled. Deadly. Damian didn’t even look at him properly. His eyes were still on me. “I didn’t come for you,” he said. Something twisted in my chest. Of course he didn’t. Kael let out a quiet, almost amused breath. “And yet you’re standing in my hall.” That got Damian’s attention. Their eyes met. And just like that The tension snapped into something dangerous. Two Alphas. Two forces. Neither willing to step back. “I’m taking her with me,” Damian said. No hesitation. No doubt. Like it was already decided. My hands curled into fists. Kael didn’t move. “On what authority?” he asked. Damian’s jaw tightened. “She’s mine.” The words hit me harder than they should have. Mine. After everything After the rejection After the humiliation Now I was his? Anger flared. But before I could speak— Kael did. “No,” he said simply. The single word landed like a challenge. Damian’s eyes darkened. “You don’t get to interfere in this.” “I already have.” Silence. Heavy. Explosive. Damian finally tore his gaze from Kael and looked at me again. And this time I saw it. Something I hadn’t expected. Not anger. Not coldness. But something closer to… frustration. “Aria,” he said, his voice lower now. “Come here.” The command sent a familiar instinct through me. Obey. Move. Respond. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. Not anymore. “I’m not going anywhere,” I said. The words felt strange on my tongue. New. Unfamiliar. But powerful. Damian stilled. “What did you say?” “I said I’m not going anywhere.” Silence fell again. But this time It was different. Because now, the tension wasn’t just between them. It included me. “You don’t understand what you’re doing,” Damian said. “I understand perfectly,” I replied. “You rejected me.” His expression flickered. “That was” “Public,” I cut in. “Final. Clear.” My chest tightened, but I pushed through it. “You made your choice.” A long pause followed. Then “I made a mistake.” The words stunned me. Damian didn’t admit mistakes. Ever. And yet There it was. Raw. Unexpected. My heart wavered. Just slightly. And Kael noticed. I felt it in the way his presence shifted beside me. Subtle. But deliberate. “You don’t get to rewrite the past because it’s convenient now,” Kael said coldly. Damian’s gaze snapped back to him. “This doesn’t concern you.” “She’s under my protection.” The words echoed. Firm. Final. Damian’s eyes narrowed. “Protection?” he repeated. “Or control?” Kael didn’t react. “Careful,” he said quietly. A warning. Damian took a step forward. “And if I’m not?” The air turned heavy. Dangerous. Like something was about to break. “Then you’ll learn the hard way,” Kael replied. My heart pounded violently. This was escalating too fast. “Stop,” I said, stepping forward slightly. Both of them froze. Their attention snapped to me instantly. “I’m not something you can fight over,” I said, my voice shaking but firm. “I’m not territory.” Damian’s gaze softened slightly. “You’re my mate.” The words hit hard. Painfully. “But I’m also the one you rejected,” I replied. Silence. Then “I didn’t know,” he said. My brows furrowed. “Know what?” A pause. Then his eyes dropped To my stomach. My heart stopped. No. No, he couldn’t “You’re pregnant,” Damian said quietly. The words shattered the room. My breath caught. “How” “I can feel it,” he said. Of course he could. Alpha instinct. Bond. Something deeper. Something I couldn’t hide anymore. The truth was out. And everything changed. His gaze snapped back to mine. Sharp. Intense. Possessive. “It’s mine.” My chest tightened. Before I could respond Kael stepped forward. Slow. Deliberate. And placed himself fully between us. Blocking Damian’s view. “No,” Kael said. The word was quiet. But absolute. Damian’s eyes darkened dangerously. “Move.” Kael didn’t. “Not happening.” The tension exploded. “This isn’t your fight,” Damian growled. “It became mine the moment she stepped into my territory.” “She’s carrying my heir!” The words echoed through the hall. Possessive. Claiming. Dangerous. Kael’s expression didn’t change. But his voice dropped. Lower. Deadlier. “And that,” he said slowly, “is exactly why you won’t be taking her anywhere.” Silence. Heavy. Explosive. Because now It wasn’t just about me. It was about power. Bloodline. Control. And neither of them were willing to lose. Damian’s gaze burned with intensity. “You think you can keep her from me?” Kael’s lips curved slightly. Not into a smile. But something close. “Try me.”
