An Unusual Mate

Chapter Three

Kaila's POV

I find myself on a beach but this beach is different from my other dreams. The sky is pink and the ocean seems to extend farther than forever. I see kids playing and dancing and singing. It's the singing that causes me to pause because not only can I hear it, I seem to see it dancing in the breeze. Every time a word is said, I see colors dance in the air. "Where am I?" I wonder out loud and am surprised to see my words in a silver-purple tint. That's weird I think but don't say. I continue walking and it's like my feet know where they are going. After a while they lead me away from everyone and I'm alone but it's peaceful. I'm not scared at all and I want to stay here forever. "I don't think we can do that, my daughter." I jump and squeal as I hear a woman's voice. Then I hear laughter but I seem to hear more than one. I look around and finally see two women sitting at a picnic table. The table is make of oak and the seats have pretty purple cushions that have little flowers on them. The women motion for me to join them. As I sit I realize I'm wearing a short ruffled purple dress and cute purple sandal heels. I look at the two women and notice I can't seem to see them clearly but at the same time I see them perfectly. I realize they are goddesses. I gasp as I recognize one of them. "Helena." "Yes my child, I'm the moon goddess you know as Helena." The other one giggled and said, "Of course she'd recognize you first dear sister." I stare at the other one completely not caring that staring is rude. She seems familiar to me somehow. In that moment the wind brushes against my wings and I close my eyes relishing in it. My eyes fly open as my brain catches up to my eyes. "Sabrina!" She smiles and says, "Yes I am the goddess of Angels."

I look at these two goddess and now I'm starting to wonder if I'm dead because if I am then damn this is a great place to stay. "You're not dead my dear daughter." I look at Sabrina and realize both of them have called me theirs. Now I'm confused as none of this is making sense. "Then let us explain my child." Helena says. "You are Sabrina's by birth, your angelic birth but you are mine because with her blessing I blessed you to two of my beloved." Sabrina picks up with.. "All your gifts and talents come from us, both of us. Nothing has been given to you that we together didn't choose. You my dear are much more, and..." She lifts my head with her fingertip. "You are much more than your bloodlust." "Accept that that is only a minor issue and you will be more comfortable with yourself. It's the price we agreed upon to be able to bless you so uniquely." Helena added. "James is correct, there is more to your talents and you've only seen the tip of what you can do." I smile as I remember my family and am surprised by the tears that fall. "Tanya?" I whisper. Helena smiled brightly, "Yes, that sweet daughter of mine, cherish her and don't be scared to lean into her more. I didn't make her fall into you, she did that herself. She willing gives herself for you and will over and over." I frown remembering Tanya's problem. "Ah yeah, Mitchell, normally the higher powers would forbade me from telling you this but they have given me special permission. Tanya's training was never a mistake. Her mates are chosen but she has a choice of what destiny she wants. Her mates will follow her no matter her choice." "Mates??" I squeak. "As in more than one?" Helena nodded. "Wait... You mean if she chooses the position, her mates will allow it, even if he or them themselves are alphas?" She nodded again. "You are not allowed to tell her she has more than one mate yet, that time will come. You can however push her to make her choice." Sabrina said, "You have been given the gift of foresight for a reason use it wisely my daughter. And remember we will always be here with you." "Oh before you go." Helena said as she stood, leaned down and kissed my forehead. "You'll understand when you awaken." Sabrina also kissed my forehead and muttered, "but for now sleep my daughter." Suddenly they were gone but I dreamt no more and slept peacefully.

Lucius's pov

Beep beep beep

I growl and smack my alarm accidentally breaking my clock...again. "f**k the person who decided 4am was a good training time." I mutter as I pull the cover over my head. "Last I checked it was you dumbass." I growl again this time at Sebastian my wolf. "Well someone should've stopped me." He laughs through a yawn as he stretches. I groan and roll out of bed. I'd been at the office late last night and I was feeling it now. I walked over and pulled on a black t shirt and shorts as well as my black running shoes. I jog up to the training area with minutes to spare. "Damn bro you look like shit." My beta, Cameron Black said as my Gamma, Shawn nodded. At that moment head train Mikey and his mate Maddie jog up to us. I look around and realize my Delta, Frank Johnson is late. I quickly mind link him, "Frank, train has started where are you?" "Man I'm coming, Keisha dammit...just dammit." I shake my head as we begin running fifteen miles to start. Keisha Diamonds was Frank's mate but she was notorious for making him late with late night or early morning sessions. Wolves are by no means shy about s*x, but it seems even Keisha's stamina was too much. I look as Frank slid in beside me. "Sorry Alpha, I was up on time I swear, but she attacked me as I was leaving. That girl is insatiable sometimes. Her heats are the worst!!!" I wanted to laugh but the exhaustion on his face was real. "What time did you go to sleep?" I ask genuinely concerned. "I haven't been to sleep I caught a nap around 3am. She was still up even with toys I can't keep up. I'm 24 years old and I'm struggling to keep up with my mate." He rubs his hands across his face as we finish mile five. "Complaining about Keisha again bro?" Shawn teased him as he and Cameron fell into stride with us. Frank looked at Shawn who quickly stopped laughing. "Bro, you look bad!" Cameron commented. "I'm exhausted. I can't keep up! Shawn not one word to your sister!" "I'm not saying s**t to Keisha but she's your mate. You need to talk to her and fast. She's running you down and it's only a matter of time before you both do something you regret." "I've tried talking, how do you think we thought of the toys. It's not enough and I can't keep this up. I love the girl to death you all know this. I've been in love with her since I was fifteen. When I got my wolf I was overjoyed she was my mate. But dammit between pack duties, work duties, patrol duties, and mate duties, I'm done. I don't have the energy for anything." He sighed as we began 200 pushup and sit-ups. Shawn, Cameron and I nodded sympathetically but we didn't get it really. Although we'd been raised like brothers, Frank was the first and the only to find his mate. As we began pairing off for sparing, Frank groaned loudly as Maddie called his out. Madeline Towers was hell on wheels, a MMA fighter and tough as nails trainer, sparring with her personally was the usual punishment for lateness to training. We all look on in as Frank dragged over to her. With almost no fight from him, she had taken him down in less than five minutes.

That got everyone's attention including Maddie. She was tough but she had a heart. She leaned down and said, "Okay Frank that was too easy. If you weren't up to training, I'm sure Alpha would have given you a pass.. this time." Frank just laid there, and suddenly we all heard, "Damn y'all ain't done yet?" Frank growled as he stood up. Keisha made her way over and said, "Are you done or not?" I saw him wrestle with his answer before he grabbed her by her shoulders. "Yes, Keisha, I am done! I done with training, and right now, much as I love you, I'm done with you too. I'm taking a day to myself and I don't care if you like it or not. I can't keep this up anymore!" With that he walked off leaving a stunned Keisha.

She was only stunned for a moment though because before he got far, she ran after him, "What the hell is that supposed to mean?! Are you rejecting me?" Shawn intercepted her and said, "Little sis, it means find something to do with yourself today besides bother him. You made him late to training and with no damn sleep!! I don't give a s**t that he's your mate. That's not how that works and mom and dad would be very disappointed to know that you are acting like this! Now go back to the pack house and find something to do as Delta female!!!" She stepped back and bowed to him, "Yes, Gamma!" He swallowed hard as she walked away. He looked at me, "Did I really just.... Man I didn't mean to!" He rubs his face as he realizes he used his Gamma tone on her. I slapped him across the back, "Better you than me because she wouldn't like what I said to her." With the distractions, we broke up training a little early and I heard Sebastian grumble. Usually we end after a ten Mile run in wolf form. "I'll let you out later today."

After showering and breakfast I head to the office of Smalls Security and Enterprise. My dad was CEO of the company but I had my hands tied in building permits and contract work. Security was my dad's thing and while I'd one day take over the company, the security part would go to someone we trusted. This business was what not only made my family rich having been in the family for six generations, it also paid for pack housing and food. No member of the pack paid for anything other than electric and other minor bills. Health care and rent came with being a member. It was one of the things that had gained us respect of other packs. And with us pushing 1000 members, we were grateful for the business. As I walked in the building, the security guard of duty, Stanley, nodded. At 6'6 and covered in tattoos, just the sight of him scared most people. A close friend of mine from high school, he also belong to the neighboring bear pack, Crystal Moon. I made my way to my office on the ninth floor and began looking through the paperwork. As late as I'd been here the night before, I was determined to get home early. Then my dad walked in with clients. I inwardly groaned as he started in on me. "The paperwork for the buildings should have been done three days ago. Why haven't they been added to my paperwork?" My dad was always tough but he meant well. As much as he tears into me, I know he never doubts that I can do the work. As I pulled out the paperwork for the business in question, the clients looked it over. Before they could sign however my secretary buzzed my intercom. "Yes, Maya?" "There's an... Umm... I'm sorry what was that?" Damn she can be a dimwit sometimes.. two weeks since we hired her and I was already sick of her. "There's a Mitchell Mathers here to see you." This time I do groan out loud as my dad growls. Nothing against the Mathers family as a whole. They had always been allies of our pack. As a whole Grey Moon, had nothing but love for the cats of Silver Lake.

And then there was Mitchell. Despite the fact that he was two years younger than me and not even an Alpha yet, he has not let that stop him from trying to cause a war. His dad's at his wits end with him and the Luna and daughter are too. So him showing up here meant trouble. As I buzzed him in against my better judgement, Maya also let me know that I had an important call. I usually didn't answer with clients in the room but something told me I needed to. "Hello?" "Hi may I speak to Lucius or Jesse Smalls?" "This is Lucius and Jesse can hear you as well." I say hitting the speaker button. "Are you a client?" "No, this is Tanya Mathers, please don't ask how I know but if my brother contacts you in the next 24 hours or shows up at your office, make sure your family is safe. I don't trust him." "He just showed up here!" "DAMMIT!!! GIRL HE'S THERE?!?!?" Suddenly there's scuffling in the background. I wait while I'm also texting, Cameron to be prepared for an attack and I see my dad in a corner also texting members of the pack. Finally I hear, "OK OK IM TELLING HIM. My source says you have two hours to stop him or be prepared, he's going after some one with blondish hair. She says she thinks she important. She... Wait wait slow down you know I can't understand you when you do that." I start to get impatient when a male voice picks up. "Lucius take me off speaker but relay to your dad." I quickly take it off speaker, "Can you clearly tell me what the f**k is going on?!?!" "Mitchell is aiming for your Gamma female, he plans on killing a bunch of omegas and kidnapping her. Apparently she's wandering alone near the border, probably patrolling. Alpha Mathers is also being told of his sons... Hang on one sec." I put the phone on hold as I get my dad's attention and tell him what I'm being told. As I listen for more information, I distinctly hear the sound of puking. Then I hear Tanya say in the background, "Kai, that's enough, breath girl! If you don't know anymore it's ok." He comes back to the phone. "Sorry, but Alpha Mathers is being informed as we speak but he can't seem to reach his son. Don't question this information just understand it's real and its....." "James she just passed out!!!" "Son of a b***h! It's happening Alpha, now I have to go!" The phone line went dead and I'm on my feet to confront Mitchell when Maya runs in. "Sorry Mr. Smalls, Mr. Mathers just ran out of here. He was on the phone and I caught something about everyone was gonna pay."

My dad texted me to go and he'll take care of the clients. I waste no time and Sebastian is begging to be let out so I drive until I'm at the gate of our property and I let Sebastian take it from there. Soon as I get to the pack house I run up to my office where Cameron, Frank, and Shawn, are waiting with their dads. "Someone is threatening us?!?" Shawn shouts as I close the door. Almost immediately I get a video call on my laptop. I see it's from Alpha Mathers so I quickly accept it. "What is going on?!" I all but scream at him. He looks and said, "Tanya told me she informed you of her brothers plans, I see I taught her well. I cannot tell you who our source is but I will say this, she has not let us down since I've known her and I consider her close family." "Why should I trust the source?" He looks at me and said, "You don't know her but you know me. We've been allies a long time. Do you remember a few years ago when you were alerted of a rouge attack nearly a week before it happened?" I nodded remembering the anonymous note my dad had been given at work. "That was my source then, and it's my source today. She nearly died in my office when she got that message and it seems she's got sick as hell yesterday morning getting this one." "Wait you said she knew yesterday? Why am I just..." "Alpha Smalls I mean no disrespect here but the girl has barely been alert to speak and eat worst trying to interpret the message." I look hard at him and he says, "Apparently, this one took three hours for her to come out of. Do you know how much s**t she saw in that time?" At this knowledge my mouth drops in shock, "... Three hours?" He nodded and said, "Imma leave you to your pack while I try to find my no good ass son!" And with that he signs off.

Before I can say anything Maddie and Mikey walk in my office dragging a pissed off Keisha and my dad walks in behind them. "Why am I being dragged here, I was just...." Keisha stops talking as she see the serious looks on everyone's face. My dad nods and steps over to the other dads. "As most of you know, Alpha Mathers' son is once again starting trouble. Keisha, it seems you may be a target, and I'm not leaving you in the dark but I'm telling you stay in the pack house until further notice. Any duties will be relayed to Frank and we'll take it from there. Are we clear?" The fear on her face is to clear as she nods. "I won't cause any trouble." I dismiss her and am about to assign duties I'm interrupted by a mindlink. "Dad take over while I go see who our visitors are. We will not be unprepared." I run down the stairs and to the border where I'm meet by patrol and two strangers. It's clear they're wolves. "Can I help you?" They bow and say the last thing I would have thought, "Alpha, Tanya Mathers sent us."

They introduce themselves as Christopher and Annalise Parks, Chris and Anna for short. I led them to the office where my dad has made sure everyone is aware of the plan. I check my watch and see that we have a little under thirty minutes before the attack was scheduled. I'm about to lay into them when a phone call interrupts me. Anna answers, "Tanya we don't have.... Oh hang on. Alpha you should hear this." She puts the phone on speaker and a female's voice I don't recognize address me "Alpha, you don't know me and you probably wondering why I'm doing this. I have no choice, I see the things I see and I try to stop them. The time clock has been pushed back a bit... He still plans on attacking today. He knows he's lost the element of surprise but he doesn't care." Suddenly her voice changed and she doesn't seem like the same person. "With the Gamma female safe, he's trying to figure whose going to hurt you back worst, the Luna or Beta female." My dad and Cameron's dad, Kendrick growl. "He's thinking of maybe taking both. If he cant take any, he plans on destroying your numbers as best as her can." She gasped suddenly and screams, "NO!!!!" Anna says, "That's enough baby, you are pushing too hard now" "wait.. just give me...." She trails and I see Chris pull out his phone as she speaks again, "Look to the west, the area of Crystal Moon, that's where he's planning on attacking. Don't...." She trails again and we hear her panting hard like she's running. "James, find you sister now... She's at it again!!!" Chris yells into his phone. She's back and she actually doesn’t sound good. "Don't underestimate him. He's got a hella band of rouges and Silver Lake members... These members believe in his craziness. At sundown, he'll..." A crash comes from her end and I hear the male from earlier. "s**t sis!! Are you trying to kill yourself???" "Sundown you have till then!!!" The phone line goes dead. We all look at the dead phone line and I have to ask. "Anna, Chris, is she okay?" Anna looked at Chris and then at me, "Do you believe her?" I look around the room. I know I felt her fear through the phone and it felt real and I look at my team they all seem to feel the same. "We believe her." "Then she'll rest now. So yes she's okay. After this is over if you need reassurance we'll call Tanya whose with her as we speak." I can't help but ask, "How?" She shrugs, "Our daughter's gifted."

I'm getting ready to have the escorted off when my dad steps to my side of the desk and stares at Chris. I watch as Anna and Chris turn their phones off and look me in my eyes. "If you'll have us, we'd like to fight with your pack." Then my dad says, "Chris...Chris.... Christopher Park? As in Blood Moon pack?" I watch my dad's eyes light up as Chris said, "one and the same, sir." "Dad you know him?" "We were in the same social circle about twenty years back. I was a young alpha and he was one of the best fighters." I look and said, "I take it there's more to the story seeing as we are about three states away from blood moon." Chris nodded and said, "While I was here on business, I found my mate. My pack refused to accept her since at the time she was human, so I left and have been on my own since. I didn't care she was human, the moon goddess gave her to me. She became pregnant with our daughter, so I turned her." He shrugged like it was no big deal. "So Alpha and sir, if you'll have us we'll fight with you." Rather than give an answer right away, I dismissed everyone to go prepare with the exception of my dad, and Cameron, Frank, and Shawn. "Dad what do you know about them?" "Her not so much, but his fighting skills those aren't something you lose easy. Plus he seems to have stayed fit even though he has no pack. They are offering and from what we've been told I think we'd be foolish to turn down the help." I nodded and sent word to let they know to be ready.

"So much for a day off." Frank groans as he rotates his shoulders. He was prepared as was my pack. I could see that knowing his mate was possibly a target had put him back on his game. We were grateful for the heads up as well as the delay. I silently thanked Helena for her warning.

"You're welcome my son. Do well with the knowledge." I jerked to my feet as the voice entered my thoughts. Everyone looked at me like I'd lost my mind and I know I looked crazy. "You okay son?" "Yeah...I think Helena actually spoke to me is all... I freaked." "She probably did, what was you thinking?" "Dad, all I did was thank her for the warning and it seems she said I was welcome and to do well with the knowledge." He nodded and said, "Then I assure you she spoke to you." I settled back and we finalize plans as we waited.

As we approached the border, I see Anna and Chris already waiting for us. Cameron stands to my right as Shawn stands to my left. Many of my pack is already in wolf form and Sebastian is pacing in my head ready and waiting. The scent finds us before we see them and I'm actually amazed by the number with Mitchell. He smirks and says, "I see you were forewarned. That matters not through, I'm still going to enjoy ripping you to shreds." I sniff and recognize wolf, and bear mixed in with the cats. I shake my head in disbelief. His eyes roam my team and lands on someone. He laughs and says, "I know my first target... Auntie." I look and Anna actually snarls at him but doesn't respond. She catches my eyes and I nod, awaiting her response. "You are no nephew of mine boy! If you were you'd stop this stupidness." She shakes her head and mutters, "For someone so smart, you dumb as hell. And he wonders why he will never be alpha!" As she yells that he growls and shifts into a huge brown and black cat but she holds her own shifting into a wolf black as night. As he lunges at her, his rouges begin to attack. I let Sebastian take over and howl as my pack attacks. A small white she-wolf attacks me but I easily throw her off. As I pounce on her, I bite into her neck instantly killing her. I quickly realize that although he has the numbers, most of these rogues have no fighting skills. I receive a mind link, "Luke, these shots have very little.." "I realize that too, Frank. It's the bears you need to watch though." I cut the mind link to see Frank's wolf, Yeti, nod. I look and I see Anna's wolf and who I'm assuming is Chris's wolf effortlessly take out two bears. I'm actually amazed by the skills of these two. Cameron mind links me "oh my gosh did you see that!!! That bear had no win!!!" I nod at him and look around to see most of the rouges running. Let them go if the run I order as I see some of my pack go to chase them. When most of what's left is just a few bears, I shift back and see most of my pack doing the same. My border command, Kyle Summers, begins passing out shorts and t-shirts to the she wolves. Finally the only ones left are Anna and Chris. Chris shifts and takes a pair of shorts as he nods his thanks. Anna on the other hand chooses to remain in wolf form. "Chris I admire the way you two took down that bear." I say as I approach him. I hear a growling that grows to howling. I look over and see Anna on her back. "Is she laughing at me?" He nods trying to hide the amusement in his eyes. "Why are you two laughing?" "Because, them bears were the only challenge out there!!!! Midnight has been laughing nearly the entire time. She also sent Mitchell home with his tail literally between his legs." I can't help but to laugh as well. I can see why my dad had liked the guy. I walk them to the border and once again thank them for their help.

As I head back to the pack house, I decide to see what more my dad knew about Chris. We could definitely use his skills in our pack. It didn't hurt that it was his daughter who had given us the heads up. First things first, I had to talk to Alpha Mathers, this attack had been a personal hit against my pack. I storm back into the pack house and up to my office and am not surprised to see Cameron, Shawn, and Frank waiting on me. "This time the Mathers boy has gone too far!" I get to the point. They nod their agreement. "We can't punish the entire pack, even Alpha Mathers..." Shawn starts before I interrupt him. "That's the problem, if he can't handle his son, we will!" I video call Silver moon and when Robert answered he looked defended even before I said anything. "Alpha, I'm doing to say it before you. My son has become an issue. I just was discussing him with Elder Richard here and soon as I find him, he's being banished." I hear gasp for my friends but I nod in understanding. "So what does that mean for our packs, Alpha Mathers?" "It means, once the banishment is set or if he step back on your pack, you have permission to kill him. This last stunt was not only done without my knowledge or permission, it seems he has taken pack members on this death mission with him." He holds up a paper which I instantly recognize as a death warrant. "Is that signed?" I asked still not sure if I believe it. The camera shifts and I see Elder Richard who nods. "Alpha Smalls, I personally signed it. I only ask that Alpha Mathers be allowed on your property to witness his son's death if he so chooses." "Will I be allowed on his, should he catch the boy before us?" I question in response to the Elders request. "We have no bad blood between our packs as far as I'm concerned. You are always welcomed here Alpha." Mathers says nodding. "Then it's settled. Let me know when he's banished." I cut the call and look at my ranked members. That seemed too easy and I was starting to question my alliance with Silver Lake.
