An Unusual Mate

Chapter Nine

Lucius POV

Being kicked out of my own room was a shock. I stood there for a good minute, confused. I'd thought everything was fine obviously it wasn't. I went downstairs to one of the gyms which is where Frank found me. He was fuming as he came over and punched me hard in my jaw. "What the f**k man?!" I yelled at him tackling him to the floor. "I should be asking you that!!! Between the damn hickeys and your handprint on her arm, one would think you enjoy marking and hurting her!" It was like cold water had been poured over me. "Handprint?" I said pushing off him. He nodded, "And the hickeys. On her skin, they look like bruises because you are putting them close together and it's a lot of them!" My eyes widen as I realized where the handprint came from. "I grabbed her, Frank. After I saw her in that dress I lost it." I shook my head, "Oh goddess, I have to apologize to her. I never meant to hurt her." He stopped me, "Keisha's with her, let her calm down. She has wolf parents but trust me, they aren't possessive with her. Then that video has got to be weighting on your mind as well." I nod as I begin pacing, "I have to apologize." Frank nods and says, "Keisha just linked me and said she was almost done. Also for you to try not to mess up the makeup on her neck." I nod and run back upstairs. As I entered, I was scared but I knew the best thing to say was, "I'm sorry." She looked surprised, "You're sorry." I nod and as I explained how I'd f****d up, I saw her softening up. Hearing she'd felt manhandled really hurt and I was ashamed. Then she kissed me and I knew I wasn't forgiven but she was willing to forgive. I silently thanked the goddess as we headed downstairs. I was stroked that she was still willing to move in with me.

As we sat down, she adjusted the sweater and I looked at her. "Tell me when I'm being stupid, do not be ashamed ever to put me in my place. You are my equal my Luna my mate." She smiles and say, "I'm going to make you remember those words." Her wings fluttered slightly as she sat up straighter. "You okay?" She nodded. "When we get out of here, I need to spread my wings, I've been in here two days. I'm not used to that." I nod and we finish eating fairly quickly. "Alpha?" I looked up to see Mike standing there. I nod and said, "You ready to go?" She nods jumping up. "Mike this is Kaila." He nods, "Good morning Luna." "It's just Kaila." She says. "Kaila the is Mike, he's one of Frank's younger brothers and your bodyguard." She looks at me and shakes her head, "I'm pretty sure this constitutes being overly possessive." I shook my head, "Not with Mitchell out there." Her face falters and she nods. "Can we go now?" I nod and Mike leads us out with me behind her. He leads us to a Ford focus and I slid her in before getting in behind her. Her wings brush against me and I look at her as she bites her lip. "What's wrong?" I ask curious. "Nothing. I'm just not sure why I feel uneasy." "We can wait, or go shopping. I'll buy you whatever you need." I suggest suddenly not liking this. She shakes her head, "I have things in my house that can't be just brought. Besides I’m fine." I text my ranked members to follow us anyway. I wasn't taking any chances. As we near the beach I saw her start bouncing and her wings really begin fluttering. She grabbed the handle and was about to throw herself out of the car as we approached the house. "Wait a second!" I said grabbing her, "Don't even attempt to teleport out this car." I look up and see two cars pull up behind us as Mike parks. The moment Frank and Shawn come around and let her out she spreads her wings moaning softly. She flies over to me as I get out and I pull her close. "Why are they here?" She ask looking at my ranked members. "Just making sure you're safe, Luna." Frank says nodding respectfully. She nods and leads us to her front door. As she opens it, she cusses and I grab her.

Kaila's POV

As much as I wanted to get annoyed by the over protection, I was glad to have them. As I opened my door, I instantly felt a shift in the magic in my house. "f**k!!!!" I scream and am instantly pulled into Luke's arms. I pull away but hold him close as I walk into my house. I see my kitchen has been ram shacked and I hear him hiss behind me. "Luke, I need you to calm down. There's no one here now." I reach my room and I start packing my clothes quickly. I run in my bathroom grabbing my hair products and shower gels. With Luke grabbing stuff as well I clear out my room rather quickly. "Is that all, Alpha? I'm getting a bad feeling!" Frank says grabbing the last of my clothes. "Yes." He nods at the same time I say, "no." "What else is there Kai?" I pull him over to my guest room but before I can open it I scream. "HOW THE f**k?!" I push Luke back as I blast the door open using my magic and come face to face with Mitchell and Mary. Before Luke can shift, they teleport out the room. Luke goes to grab me, "Luke wait I need things out of here." I see him struggling as he backs away, "Frank, Mike keep her safe." I fly around the room quickly gathering candles and other items so I can continue training. Suddenly James shows up pissed as hell. "What the hell happened sis?" He says looking around the room just as Frank and Mike pounce on him. "Guys!! You remember my brother James!!" Frank instantly stops pulling Mike off him. "Sorry man, seeing Mitchell has us on edge." James stares at me as I nod. "That's what the f**k I felt." I nod again and he flies pass me going to the wall. He presses a spot and my wall opens to reveal a book. "Um James?" "Not now sis. You have what you came for get the hell back to the pack house." I nod and fly pass the boys but they are fast behind me and I slam into Luke. "You ready?" I nod feeling queasy. I shove the items in to the car and Luke is trying to get me in as well. "Luke, wait a second." He shakes his head pushing me in the car. As we head back, I find myself feeling sicker instead of better. I try to get his attention, "Luke!" I call as I start feeling dizzy. He doesn't acknowledge me at all. I fight it long enough to get on pack lands. Once I'm back on pack lands, I throw the door open puking up my breakfast. "s**t!!! Stop the car!!" I hear as I feel his hand stroking hair at the same time keeping me from falling out the car. I slowly begin to dry heaves as my vision goes black.

Lucius's POV

My only thought had been getting her the f**k out her house after seeing Mitchell. Knowing he'd slipped away had me seeing red and Sebastian on the surface. So I didn't know she wasn't feeling good until I saw her push the door open. Before I could get mad I heard her getting sick. "s**t!! Stop the car!!" I yell grabbing onto her. I brushes her hair out of her face until she went still. "Kai? Baby?" I pulled her back in the car only to find her passed out. "Mike get us to the house now!" I linked Dr. Jenkins as I cradled Kai in my arms.

-Doc, Kaila just passed out I'm bringing her in-

-I’ll have a bed waiting-

I cut the mind link only for Frank to link me

-what just happened?-

-I wasn't paying attention to her. I think she was trying to tell me she didn't feel good-

-so she opened the door of a moving car-

-yeah and threw up before passing out while hanging out of said car-

I cut the mind link as we approached the house. I got out with her in my arms and ran her to the hospital. I walk in to see Sharon waving at me, "This way Alpha!" I follow her into a private room where Dr. Jenkins is waiting. She starts checking her vitals and after drawing blood, she finally looks at me. "Young Alpha, what the hell happened?!?" I tell her everything and she looks at me hard, "It seems that she is just in a deep sleep. You're both lucky, she could have been hurt because you let your pride get the best of you. I'm going to keep her here until she wakes." I instruct Mike to stay outside her door standing guard as I leave. The moment I walk in the pack house I'm met with a hard slap across my face. My eyes widen as my mom storms away from me. "What was that for?!?!" I look to my dad for help and he just shrugs his shoulders. I groan as I make my way to my office. I'm surprised to see Frank, Cameron and Shawn already there. I step in and say, "If anyone else want to hit me, please at least tell me why!" Frank looked at me hard, "You just don't get it! She could have been seriously hurt today! Even Mike knew something was wrong. He drove like hell to get her back on pack lands! All because you let your pride cloud your judgement. Mitchell will be dealt with but not like this!" I sink into my chair just as my phone rings. "Hello?" "Alpha Lucius?" "Alpha Mathers." She laughs, "Nope it's still Tanya, James is here as well and he's fuming." There was a shuffle then I hear, "Alpha, we need to talk, today if possible! Its about my sister." I swallow hard, "Is she in danger?" "We have to talk, can we head over today or not." "Yeah but I think she needs to be part of this conversation." "That's fine, she should be awake by the time I get there." I clutch the phone, "I never said she was sleep what do you know?" James sighs into the phone, "I know she's in a deep sleep. Just know that she's fine. We're on our way." With that the line goes dead. I growl loudly making my members bow as I yell, "Why does it seem everyone knows more about my mate than me?!?"

About an hour later, I'm in a smaller conference room with my ranked members, Tanya, James Celeste, and Abigail. James looks at me sadly as I say, "Okay someone tell me what the hell is going on!" Abigail says, "Seeing as she isn't here, I'm going to assume she's still sleep." I nod grinding my back teeth. "Did she seem anxious at any point before you got to her house?" I nod and tell them on more than one occasion I had to stop her from getting out the car. Abigail nodded, "I told her to put magic wards around her house, I didn't think anyone would actually break in. She was sensing Mitchell in her house." James jumps in with, "In the guest room, that's where we were training. It was our sanctuary which is why we both put the wards up there. Abigail added to it so when he broke in there, we all felt it." Celeste takes up here, "James, I also added my magic to the wards, I figured it would be safest for a high level angels touch. Which means he had help because it takes a lot to break a spell that a strong angel like Abigail and a high angel like me has blessed. In fact the only way to break it without killing yourself, is for a high angel to break it." "That's why Mary was there!" We all look up as Kaila walks in with Mike right behind her. I run over to her kissing her forehead, "I'm so sorry, I should've listened to you." "You're right, but I was also wrong, I didn't tell you what was going on. I'm sorry." She kisses me and turns to Celeste, "You said a high level angel had to help him, so why is Mary helping him?" James rubs his face hard and his wings droop. "JAMES MONROE LOGAN?!?! WHAT THE HELL ARENT YOU TELLING ME?" She yells walking over to him.. "Sis, I need you to sit down and calm down. What I have to tell you not only isn't easy, it's going to piss off most of this room. I swear sis, none of us knew until I came into my full power. And it involves that damn dream you keep having." I sit down and she walks over siting on my lap as she nuzzles my neck. I feel both of us calm and James sighs loudly as Abigail and Celeste back themselves against a wall looking defeated. "It all starts with your birth, you weren't supposed to be born to shifters. That set off a path that no one could have predicted. Your wolf blood should have diluted your angel blood after you were conceived, when it didn't and you were born, I was swore to secrecy until your 25th or your marking. Mitchell was promised to you when you turned 18. That came from Mary, we didn't know she was an enemy!! I swear this to you!"

Kaila's POV

"Mitchell was promised to you." That's all I kept hearing until I felt sparks down my arm. I look at Luke who's trying to calm me. James had stopped talking and I said, "Why was I promised to him and what does any of this have to do with you?" Celeste stepped up, "Mary apparently thought by giving you to a werecat, you powers would be weakened. Instead, the goddesses chose a werewolf but that’s where the dream comes in. I think the dark presence you keep sensing is either Mitchell or Mary. They want to kill you before you come into your full power and they are racing against a clock." I look hard at her as James pulls out a book. "Sis, I was forced to stay away from you when you were younger because of this." He flips the book open to a page and slides the book across to me. I look down at it,

When the tides turn and all seems lost

One will save us, she will pay the cost

With her life and her blood

Her death shall lift the curse.

On a full moon angel and wolf as one

An undying battle never to be won

In the end She will make a choice

His death her life will be their voice.

I look up at him and shove the book back. "What the hell does this mean?" He shook his head and flips to another page.

Dark waters, moon of new

I need only to find you

Wolf and angel join in one

She makes her choice

She finds her voice

Her screams echo until she is found.

With him as hers, they find steady ground.

Until water rising taking her down

He faces a choice let her not drown.

I look up at James, "How long?" He sighs, "I didn't know. That's what I'm telling you. I knew of the first prophecy. The second one showed up yesterday when I left. I am the guardian of the book which is why I left it in your house. I felt them break in and knew the book wasn't safe. I didn't know how until Lucius confirmed you were in a deep sleep. It was then I realized that however they broke in took major magic and it was draining on you. Between that and the dormant wolf thing you are the only one these prophecies could speak of." Abigail steps in here, "The prophecy changed because you did young angel. You found Lucius and have accepted him. You made your choice..." "And he made his." I say looking at Luke. "Today you saved me, I would have walked into their trap today.. my dream would have come true." I realize out loud. "The dark energy I felt in my dreams I felt it the entire time I was at the house." I hear a gasp from across table and look up at James. He's flipping through the book frantically. "Oh my goddess!" I see Celeste and Abigail looking on with wide eyes. "What now James?" He looks up with tears in his eyes as he looks at Celeste. "What does this mean?" "It means you did your job correctly young angel." We all gasp as Sabrina appears in the room.

Lucius's POV

Hearing that I'd saved her from what would have been a horrible destiny, I knew she'd saved me as well. I was seconds from kissing Kai when she looks over at James. He's flipping through the book almost panicking. "What does this mean?" He asks looking at Celeste. "It means you did you job correctly young angel." I gasp as I recognize the voice from my dreams. "Sabrina." I hear my mate whisper. Sabrina looks at James, "you were never the true guardian of the book that changes. I gave it to you for safe keeping until the time came to turn it over to it's true keeper." She looks at Celeste and Abigail, "Your job isn't done yet, there is still much to do. I will deal with Mary myself so do not focus on her." Then she looks at my mate, "Awe, my dear daughter, you have chosen well. You job has just begun." She nods and gasp slightly as another goddess appears. "Helena!" I whisper as my mate wipes her eyes. "She has indeed chosen well, dear sis." She says looking at Sabrina before turning to me, "Your job has also just begun young wolf, stop stressing out over everything, and put your mate and your pack first. I didn't make you two find each other by accident." Then she turns to Tanya and James, "You two, it's been a joy watching you two grow and now that James is done with his task, it's time for him to make a choice." He looks at Tanya and says, "I chose my mate now and always." Tanya says, "What are you doing? Do you lose something? Wait I'm lost!" Sabrina laughs and says, "All he is losing is his hold on the book and his ability to read it as well as a bit of his immortality. That piece of immortality transfers to you young cat. He was still be the adorable angel you love." She snaps her fingers and they both gasp. "You both will live long pretty peaceful lives. Lead your pack well young cat." Sabrina snaps her fingers again and the book lands in Kai's lap. "As you know high powers usually don't interfere with the movements of this world but because a shifter and angel tried to destroy what we together have blessed, we felt it necessary and the higher powers granted us access to set things right. We have done that now, you have the information. Use it wisely." With that they both left with a breeze sweeping the room. I feel Kaila freeze as her wings brush me and look at her to see her staring the book. In it was two pictures, one of me kissing her and of a beautiful black wolf with wings kissing Sebastian.

I agree with Sebastian as I kiss Kai's forehead. "So we have work to do?" I ask the angels and they nod. "Today you two rest and enjoy your pack and each other. Tomorrow the hard work begins." Celeste says before disappearing. Abigail looks at James, "Just because you are no longer a guide, don't think you can let your guard down. A good angel never stops preparing." He nods kissing Tanya, "I'm learning that." With that Abigail leaves and it's just us and my ranked members. Frank is the first to leave needing to go find Keisha and I dismissed the other two. I look to see Kai touching the both and her eyes fluttering as tears fall.

Kaila's POV

I stare at the picture of me and Luke and of the two wolves. As I run my fingers across the book I feel a surge of power and my eyes flutter as I see images of different things until they land on a image of many kids some with wings, some in cat form, and some in wolf form. I feel Luke's hand on my cheek and I realize I'm crying. "Baby, you okay?" I smile and kiss him deeply. "I'm great baby." It is then I realize the room is empty except for Tanya and James. I look at him and flip through the book. I slide it across to Tanya and James. "I can't read the book anymore sis." I roll my eyes, "I know you can see this." He looks down at the same time Tanya gasp. "Are those...?" She pauses as tears fall. I nod crying harder and Luke looks at James whose also staring at the book. "Care to let me in?" He says looking at me. I nod and press my head to his filling his mind with images of all our kids together. "Oh my!" He says smiling brightly. "We will be just fine baby." I say kissing his lips with each word. After we escort Tanya and James off pack lands, he takes me for a walk around the lands until we get to the lake. As we sit down on the bank, I snuggle into him, "I don't want to hide my powers from my pack and I need to train so how are we going to set that up?" I say staring at the water. He says, "I've never wanted you to hide, you are my equal, their Luna, my mom will help guide you on Luna duties. Just tell me what you need to do whatever." I look at him, "I need a new sanctuary for one. The wards of the old one became null and void when Mary broke in." He nods, "There's a few guest rooms on our floor that are for our guest, if you want to, you can use one of those." "Really?" He nods, "Celeste says we start the hard work tomorrow. I don't know what that means but I'm going to do whatever."

A week later

Lucius's POV

"Luke you aren't helping her!" I growl as I turn towards Celeste. "What more do you want me to do!" We had been training nearly a week and I was supposed to be helping Kai keep control of her emotions while she kept control of her magic. It was not my fault that she kept pushing me away. "Celeste stop being hard on him. It's my fault, not his." Kai says as she collapses to the ground yet again. She was breathing hard and sweating. She sighed softly before pushing herself up on her feet. Abigail and Celeste shared a look and walked over to us. As Abigail grabbed my hand she also grabs Kai and I suck in air at the power flowing through my body. "Well, that's interesting." I tense up until I recognize James voice. It was weird feeling this power but the moment she drops our hands I feel like a lost something. "Indeed it is young angel." Celeste says. Kai looks at them and says, "Could you stop talking in circles because I'm lost here, what's interesting?" "Kai take Lucius’s hand and focus on your magic." Celeste instructs her. She frowns and takes my hands. She looks at me as her wings begin fluttering and she begins to glow, I gasp as her magic begins flowing through me as well. Her eyes widen and she drops my hands. "Am I doing that?" James nods. "I found I can do it to Tanya as well..." He sighs shaking his head. "Did you hurt my best friend?!" Kai says her magic flowing again as she walks towards him. He holds up his hands in self defense, "It wasn't on purpose!!! She grabbed my hand getting shocked but instead of hurting her it flowed through her!!" She calms and says, "Funny, Luke keeps trying to grab my hands too." Celeste nods, "I think I we can circle now safely." I see Kai tense and shake her head. "No, no, and no!" She screams and Celeste looks at Abigail who is frowning at James. "Ummmn, James Monroe Logan, please tell me you didn't!" Celeste says approaching him. "Look I was trying to help and Abigail punished me after my sister almost overloaded on magic." "Celeste he thought he could train her, obviously that wasn't his job but I met this young angel in a circle running on overloaded energy." Celeste says, "please tell me she at least handled the circle better than him, since I cant punish him again!" Abigail laughs, "Kaila only got sick after the circle was closed and I'm pretty sure it was more from being overwhelmed than the circle itself." Seeing as I'm lost Kai pulls me close to her and as she kisses me she fills my head with images of the failed circle. She also showed me his punishment and I laugh watching him pass out. By the time she pulls away, Celeste and Abigail are staring at us. "She can project?" Celeste mutters. Had I not been a wolf I wouldn't have heard her with how soft she said it. "Oh...did I not mention that?" James says smugly. She rolls her eyes, "Do we have to do the circle thing?" "Eventually yes. It doesn't have to be today or tomorrow, but it should be done at least once before you come into full power. You need to know what you will be fighting to control." Abigail smiles at her, "Sweet girl, you've come so far these last few months. I actually believe you were an easier student than your brother and that's saying a lot. The circle is happening and I think you'll handle it better this time around because you know what they feel like to you already. Plus you'll have us to help. We won't let you get to overwhelmed and out of control."
