When the ice melts

Chapter 4

Dušica's P.O.V.

Mia and I exited the school and went to the parking lot. I saw Tom, Emili, Ana and Sam next to my car.

"Are you ready?" asked Mia when we were close enough.

"Yes, we are baby!" said Tom and hugged her. I smiled at how cute they are.

"Okay, so you will drive my car and I'm going with Dušica," she said and looked at others. "Do you all have a ride?"

"Yeah, we do," Anna said and looked at me.

I gave her my best smile and she looked away and blushing. I have no idea how I kept myself from laughing. I just loved the effect I had on people.

"Okay, let's go then!" I said and took the key of the car and push the button. Then the car unlooked, and doors went up. I smiled at my baby.

"This is what I call a car!" said Tom in awe.

"I know right!" said Emili and Ana at the same time. I just laughed slightly.

"Come on," I said and motioned Mia to climb in the car.

"See you in five!" Mia yelled when I closed the door.

"Let's race!" she yelled once again and I laughed. I pushed the gas and left guys in awe. "I just love this baby so much," Mia said talking about my car with her hands on control table.

"Same here buddy. Put on aux and pick something to listen" I said and she picked some songs she loved.

We came in front of the restaurant after 5 minutes and then waited for others. "I hope they will come soon, I'm starving!" I said and touched my stomach.

"You are ALWAYS hungry!" Mia said and rolled her eyes.

I pushed her playfully "Look who said it! You can eat all day!

"Yeah, I actually can,'' she said which made us both laugh.

Then Sam's car parked right next to mine. She climbed out and she looked so good in her tight blue jeans and a white T-shirt. She come to us and smiled. Oh god, here we go again! This beautiful dimples! I have dimples too and I adore to see it on other people. "I'm so hungry!" she complained.

"Same here," I said and sighed.

Just at that three other cars parked near.

"Thank god you are here!" said Mia "I didn't know you are so slow!"

"Oh come on, it's not our fault we don't have fast cars like these girls here!" said Emili and motioned with her hand to me and Sam. We exchange the amused look and laughed.

"Never mind, let's just go inside!"

We went inside and found one free booth. I sat at the end and Mia sat next to me, then Ana, Emili, Sam and at the other end Tom.

I took menu and looked at it for couples moments then sighed.

"What's wrong?" asked Ana.

"Oh, nothing I just already miss Serbian national food!"

"Don't you dare to talk about it!'' said Mia and gave me her death glare. I couldn't stop myself from laughing.

"Why?" I asked when I calmed down.

"I didn't eat any normal food for two years!"

When I heard this, the menu fell from my hands. I looked at her like I saw the ghost. I put a hand on my chest. "No. f*****g. Way!"

"Well yes way," she said and rolled her eyes.

"What are you saying about coming to my place for the weekend and we will make kačamak and every kind of food you love?" I said and smirked

"Oh my god are you kidding me?" she was so excited. I just smiled at her.

"Why would I?"

She literally jumped on me, hugging me tightly.

"Mia, you i***t I can't breathe! Let me go!" I heard guys laugh and she let go of me. "You all are invited on Saturday at my place too," I said to others.

"I can't come, sorry," Tom said.

Mia looked at girls and said, "We will come after volleyball practice, you should come and pick me and others will follow because you are moving to another place tomorrow!" Oh yeah, I totally forgot that and I just nodded.

"I guess it will be girls weekend then!" said Emilie way too exciting and I smiled.

"Oh yeah, if you come, you need to sleep over!" they looked at me confused and Mia rolled her eyes.

"That's just her rule, she doesn't let people leave if they come on Saturday or Friday."

"Wait, but why don't you make that food on your own?" Sam asked Mia.

"Because I don't know how! It always looks so disgusting and the taste isn't better!" we all laughed. "But you have no idea how good Dušica is in the kitchen!" she practically yelled.

"Is there anything you are not good at?" asked Anna in a flirty way.

"Well, that's not mine to say," I said and winked at her. She blushed so hard and looked down. Oh my god, she was cute.

"Oh by the way, will you stay over tonight? My parents really missed you," I asked Mia

"Sure! I missed Mr. and Mrs. Nikolić so much too!"

"Great. And I assume you will help me to move to new house tomorrow?"

"Hell yeah!" I laughed again, she just had that effect on me.

Then the waitress came to us. She was my age, she had long black hair wavy at the end and big green eyes. She just stood there and looked at me with wide eyes. I gave her my most charming smile and she blushed.

Then we heard someone clear their throat, I turned my head and was met with that beautiful icy blue eyes. She looked at me then at the waitress.

"I'll take a burger," she said and explained what else she would like and then gave the menu back to the girl.

"O-Okay, what would the rest of you want?" she asked.

They all said their orders and then the girl looked at me and gave me a shy smile.

"I'll take a burger, fries and a big coke please." I sad and gave her the rest of my order.

She nodded and left us alone.

"Are you kidding me?" Mia asked.

"What?"

"How can you eat that much?"

I rolled my eyes and groaned remembering how annoying she used to be when it comes to food. "You know I love food," I said innocently.

"Yeah, I know. Just like you love sleeping and doing nothing! You are such a lazy ass."

"I got that from my best friend!" I said and winked to her.

"Ha ha ha!" she laughed with a lot of sarcasm in her voice.

And once again she made us all laugh.

Sam looked at me and then said: "I guess it's time to know you better."

I couldn't help but smile, I don't even know why, but she had that effect on me.

"Sure, you all just ask me what you want to know."

"Okay, so let's start with random questions," she said and smiled.

"Go on"

She made thoughtful expression for a moment and then asked.

"When's your birthday?"

I heard Mia laughing lightly next to me. I glanced at her and she put her hand to cover her mouth. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Umm, it's on July 4th," I answered and looked away from them.

"Wow, that's so cool" I heard Tom say. I turned to look at him and smiled.

"Uh, I guess"

"Do you have any siblings?" asked Emili

"No, I don't," I answered and my heart arched.

I looked at Mia who was actually bored until then but looked at me with an apologetic smile. I smiled and put my arm around her shoulder.

"I have Mia, and that's enough for me," I said and kissed her cheek.

She blushed lightly and wrapped her arms around my waist, pulled me closer, then placed like a hundred kisses on my cheek

"I" kiss "love" kiss "you'' kiss "so" kiss "f*****g" kiss "much" kiss.

This made me giggle. "Mia stop it!" I couldn't help but laugh. Others were looking at us but she didn't care. "Shh someone is jealous" I whisperer to Mia and she looked at Tom.

"Hey babe, she is just a friend. Chill" we all laughed and Tom smiled shyly.

At that moment the waitress started walking toward us. Next to her was some guy. I looked at him then at her with a questionable look. She turned her head to look at the man and then looked back at me. She rolled her eyes at guy which made me laugh.

"What are you laughing at weirdo?" asked Mia

"Nothing" I smiled and looked away from the waitress.

She came to us and placed plates in front of us. When she gave me my plate I looked up and her and she winked at me which made me giggle. "Thank you," I said.

She nodded and turned around. I was so ready to start eating but someone put their hands on the table. I looked up and saw the man who was with waitress. Mia, I and others exchanged confused looks and I looked at the guy again.

"Um, is there any problem, sir?" I tried to be polite even if he was around thirty years old and pretty much not letting me eat.

"No, no. I just wanted to say that this is on the house!"

It was so confusing but I was so hungry to ask any future questions. "Okay, well thank you," I said and shrugged.

I looked away from him, down at my hamburger which looked inviting. So inviting actually. I was ready to take a bite when the man cleared his throat. I rolled my eyes and bit inside of my cheek. "I'm really sorry, but would you mind leaving us alone. We are really hungry..."

"Oh, yeah, my bad! But, I wanted to tell you that whole employed told me that a breathtaking black haired girl is sitting at this table." He still was looking at me, up and down, more like checking me out.

I was so confused and I looked at others who were as confused as I was. When I wanted to say thanks he kept talking. Again. Damn man, I am hungry!

"I just wanted to see if that is true, and we made a bet. If that's true, you and your friends who are with you will have free food here for a month, and if not... well, then nothing." he said " And I must admit you are really the most beautiful person that has ever walked through that door over here!" he said and pointed with his hand to his left where the door was placed.

This made me nervous and felt the heat rising up my cheeks. Great!

"Um... Well, I... Thank you! It's really nice of you." I was able to say this? Wow, I'm proud.

He looked at me one more time and winked. "I'll leave you alone now." and with that said he left us alone. I shivered at this and my hand flinched. I was staring at him like an i***t then looked to my right to see Mia trying not to laugh.

"Don't you dare laughing!'' I said little annoyed by her.

And just like I said completely opposite thing, she started laughing hysterically. I rolled my eyes at her "You are really an i***t you know that, right?''

She just nodded and kept laughing. I looked at others who were pretty confused but still decide to laugh at Mia. I looked at Sam and our eyes met, but she looked at the other side immediately. Why? I didn't know...

"What the hell was that?" asked Anna after they all calmed.

"Things like that happens all the time!" said Mia "We used to get free drinks, food, spa, and other things just because of her" she pointed at me with her finger. I just rolled my eyes not even bothering to answer.

"Whatever, let's just eat!" said Sam.

Mia and I exchanged a confused look but stayed silent. I couldn't bother to talk more. I was so hungry.

We were eating at comfortable silence when Emili asked "What's your schedule?"

"Oh, I have every class with Mia and French for fourth period."

"Which means you have every period with me too, including French as well," Sam said.

Wow yes! Wait... Why am I happy? Because I will have classes with her obviously! Maybe we will sit together. But why do I even care? Because... Well, I don't know... I should stop talking like this to myself... Yeah, I probably should.

"That's great," I said and smiled at her, she smiled as well.

"You will have English and P.E. with Anna and me too" said Emili excitedly.

"Yeah, me and Jon have P.E. with you too" said Tom.

"Oh no!" I said and put a hand on my cheek.

They all laughed. Then Tom said. "Look, I know Jon knows how to be an i***t sometimes, but he is actually a good guy."

"I bet he is!" I said and rolled my eyes which made guys laugh some more.

We kept eating and Anna asked shyly "Should we start with questions again?"

"Yeah, sure," I said and take a sip of my drink.

"So, what's your favorite color?" she asked.

"Oh, that's easy," I said with smile "Black"

She looked at me obviously shocked. I looked at Sam who was sitting next to her. Her expression changed and then smirk appeared on her face. It was weird and I was ready to ask her about it but then Emili interrupted. "Wow, you and Sam are the only people I know whose favorite color is black!"

I looked at Sam and smile crept on my face. Well, that's why she acted like that moment ago.

"What's yours," I asked Emili. Trying to sound interested and took a bite of my burger.

"Red obviously" she said.

"Of course it is!" I mumble under my breath hoping no one will hear but Mia did. And she almost choked in her drink and I tapped her back.

"Um... Do you have a boyfriend?" asked Emili.

"Or a girlfriend" Ana added quickly.

I couldn't help but laugh. I knew she was gay, Mia's already told me but I have nothing against it, love is love.

"No," I said looking at Emili then looked at Ana "And no".

"I had a boyfriend back in London but we decide it would be easier to break up since I was loving here," I said. I thought about Charlie and how good he was. Even I think I never really was in love with him. I loved him and I still do, but more just as a friend. I cared so much about him and he cared about me.

"Oh I'm sorry!" it was Sam's voice, though it didn't sound like she really was.

"No reason to be," I said and looked at her "He is my best friend now, he actually always was."

Then Mia jumped in "Hey, hey, hey it's not fair!"

"Oh, jealous much huh?" I asked

"Of him? Never!" she said and rolled her eyes which made me smile. I really missed her.

"What are some of your hobbies?'' asked Tom.

"Well, it's volleyball and handball, writing, reading..."

I was interrupted by Mia "Singing, composing, playing the guitar and piano, dj-ing, dancing" I looked at her and she smiled. I'll kill her.

"Wow, seriously?" asked Ana.

"Yeah" I answered simply, blushing slightly.

"You are a DJ?" Emili asked while Sam asked, "You're singing and playing the piano?"

I chuckled and nodded.

"Wow" was all Sam said.

"Could you be any more perfect?" asked Emili and I almost spilled out my drink and they all laughed. I saw how Sam looked weird at her. I decide to ignore it.

"When you already mentioned volleyball, when are you planning to try out for a team?" asked Ana.

"Principal said it'll be on Monday because I start school then!"

"Oh, that's great! If you are half as good as Mia said it will not be a problem for you!" I was ready to answer but Mia was faster. "She is even better! You'll see!"

I groaned and looked at her but she just smiled sheepishly. "What? I'm just speaking the truth!"

"Whatever," I said and rolled my eyes.

"Oh, by the way, when we are already talking about volleyball." Mia started "Principal told us to inform you that we will have practices every day after classes and at the weekends too, around seven or eight in the morning. I am not so sure." I heard Ana sighing while Emili laughed.

"I know right!" Mia said to Ana and then turned to Emilie "And you shouldn't laugh because every practice we have, we will have with cheerleaders!"

"What?" she practically yelled.

We all laughed and I said "You should watch it from the better side"

"Which is?" she asked.

"You'll be with me!" I winked at her which made her blush. And I couldn't help it anymore, so I just laughed like crazy with everyone else.

"Well... That's the only bright side of this."

I took some fries and put them in my mouth and Mia gave me puppy dog eyes.

"Gimme" she pleaded. I smiled at how cute she looked.

"Take it," I said simply.

"Aww but you know I love when you feed me," she said.

I looked at her with wide eyes and notice that everyone had the same expression.

"Oh no, no," I said and shook my head.

"Please, please, please!" she kept repeating this with her hands put together like she was praying.

"Fine, whatever!"

She jumped a little "Yes!"

I took one fries from the plate "Why do you have to be so damn cute?" I asked turning to look at her. I brought my hand close to her mouth when she mumbled "You showed me how" with that, she bit the fries.

"You are licking my finger, you i***t!" I said and laughed.

"You had ketchup on it!" she said with shrug and we both laughed.

At that moment it was like we forgot that we were with other people too. We looked at them and they were looking at us with their jaws on the floor.

"What?" Mia and I asked in unison.

Okay, well this might be weird, but Mia and I have this weird relationship where we act like friends, girlfriends, sister and everything else. We care about each other deeply, but there are no romantic feelings.

"Nothing," they said simply.

We eat a little bit longer when Sam's voice was heard. "I really love your language you know, and I was wondering does your name have any meaning?"

'Oh no, just no that!' I thought.

I could hear Mia giggling next to me. Sam decided to ignore her so did I.

"I know Mia's name doesn't mean anything, just like mine and any of ours" she added.

"Well yeah, my name has a meaning..."

Then Mia interrupted "And pretty weird if I may add."

I gave her a death glare and she casually took a sip of her drink.

Well, she actually was right, I never really loved my name. It was so weird you know.

"So" started Ana sounding interested in this "what does it mean?"

"Uh, umm well it means little soul!" I quickly looked away but I heard them gasping.

"That's beautiful!" said Sam. Wow, did she really think it's beautiful?

I looked up at her and gave her my best smile. She smiled too, showing me her perfect dimples.

"Wait!" she said. I frowned not knowing what she is talking about.

"Your eyes!" she breathed out. Oh god, this shouldn't be brought up. Damn it!

I looked away but she didn't stop speaking

"I could swear, when I first saw you today, they were sea blue. And now, they are kinda gold? "

Her last sentence was more like a question than a statement. I looked up at her and she couldn't stop looking at my eyes. Like she was searching for something. Everyone else agreed with her.

"Well, the thing is that I actually don't know either okay? They are sometimes blue, sometimes green or grey or even gold. They are even all of this mixed up sometimes. It's weird... They are just changing colors. And that used to freak people out!" when I finished I looked down and played with my fork.

"I think it's beautiful!'' Sam said again. Our eyes locked together and I felt something strange in my stomach. Then her phone rang and she excused herself and went out. I looked at how her hips were moving along with her. Wow, I was such an i***t.

This lunch with these people was amazing! I felt really comfortable with them, they are cool. They were talking about something but I was so tired even listen, I just wanted to sleep.
