--- THE BILLIONAIRE'S DEBT MAID By Esther Ogechi pen CHAPTER 2: SHE FAINTED Downstairs, I was awake in my small room, my hand still warm from his balm. The main gate slammed. A car screeched and drove off into the night. Sandra was gone. My phone vibrated. A message from an unknown number: "You think you have won? You made my boyfriend leave me to rub your dirty hand. I left tonight, but I am coming back. And when I come back, I will make sure you lose more than your wrist." My heart stopped. My hands started shaking. I deleted the message quickly. I did not sleep that night. I was so afraid. THE NEXT DAY The boss woke up at 6am and prepared for work. He came downstairs. There was no food on the dining table. No tea. No bread. The kitchen was empty. "Chioma!" No answer. He went straight to the kitchen. He did not see the maid. "Chioma!" he called louder. He walked to the maid's room and pushed the door open. I was on the floor. I had fainted. "Chioma!" Jason shouted. He carried me from the floor and drove straight to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctor said, "She has gone through too much stress. Pain from her wrist, lack of sleep, fear, and she has not eaten. Her body shut down." Jason called his friend Chuks from his workplace. Chuks rushed down. Jason told him everything — how my father owed him one million, how he forced me to work, the pounded yam, how Sandra left. Chuks queried him, "Jason! Why could you be this selfish and arrogant? A girl just lost her parents and was mourning her parents and all you could do was force her to work for you? Do you have conscience at all?" Jason kept quiet, his head down. After some while, the doctor came out and asked for a blood transfusion. Jason said, "I am O+. Take my blood." He followed the doctor to the ward. His blood was entering my body. When the transfusion finished, the doctor said, "She needs space to rest now. Oga, you should give her space." Jason nodded. He left the hospital and went back home. At home, he entered the kitchen himself. The billionaire who never cooked. He prepared a very delicious meal — jollof rice, chicken, and salad. He packaged it neatly in a food flask. He added fruits — watermelon, pineapple, apple. He bought energy drink. He drove back to the hospital with the meal. When he arrived, the doctor said, "She needs more food and full rest." Jason handed over the food to the doctor. "Please give it to her." Then the boss went to the waiter room and sat, waiting for the doctor to call him in. The doctor went to where Chioma was. When Chioma opened her eyes, she saw the packaged food and drink with fruits. "Your Oga brought this for you. You need to eat enough food and fruit for now," the doctor said. Chioma started to eat the food and fruit, enjoying the delicious meal. Just then, the door opened. The boss walked in. He stood at the door, looking at her eating. "How is the food?" he asked softly. Chioma looked up, "The food tastes nice. Who made the food?" The boss said, "I made it myself." Chioma was surprised. She muttered under her breath, "So billionaire dey cook?" The boss noticed and asked, "What did you say?" She said, "Nothing." He said, "Just tell me, don't be afraid." So the maid told him, "I said, so billionaire do cook?" He smiled. For the first time. Chioma seeing her boss smile — she froze. He said, "I want to pick something at the office. After that I will come and pick you. Rest for now." Chioma said, "Okay sir," and went back to sleep. Then the boss drove out of the hospital and went to his company. In the evening, the boss came and took her back home. Chioma was still wondering why he said no more red dress again. When they got home, the boss helped her to sit down and went to kitchen to prepare dinner. So Chioma was sitting down on the living room watching some TV. After some hours, the boss came out with some delicious meal with drink to the dining table and Chioma's medication. He went and called Chioma to come and eat. So Chioma followed him to dining table and he served Chioma her food. They started eating. The boss was always staring at Chioma, then when she noticed, he removed his eye pretending he is focused eating his own food. So Chioma was shy and decided to break the silence. "What about Sandra?" she asked. He said, "She left." "Why?" He said, "I don't know. Oh, let us not talk about her. She was the reason for your hand, so let us eat this food." Chioma said, "Okay o." After the dinner, they went to sleep. THE NEXT MORNING Chioma woke up and wore her red dress, sweeping the living room. The boss saw her and said, "Why are you stressing yourself? The doctor said you should have enough rest. So please give me the broom." Chioma stood and said, "How will I pay my father's debt?" The boss looked at her and collected the broom and started sweeping. Chioma went back to her room. CLIFFHANGER - MORNING: That same morning, as Jason was sweeping the parlor himself, his phone rang. It was an unknown number. He picked it. A woman's voice shouted, "Jason, you think you can replace me with that village debt maid? You gave her your blood? You cooked for her? I saw the food flask you carried to hospital yesterday!" Jason froze. The broom fell from his hand in the morning light. Chioma, from her room, heard everything. Who told Sandra that Jason gave Chioma his blood and cooked for her? --- END OF CHAPTER DON'T FORGET TO LIKE, SHARE AND COMMENT AND FOLLOW FOR MORE
