Chapter 13: The jungle

Amphelia Pov

The jungle. It's a place of magnificent animals and wonder creatures.

Mind blowing power display and it is practically... The worst place to be.

" why chase an injured guy into this place? He'll be dead before he knows it".

Candy said talking in a low voice.

Instead of listening to her, I amplified the amount of sound detection to 10 from 3.

" Did you get anything?" It was First sergeant Bedrock. He was the leader of this squad.

We had been sent after a squad of five gifted humans who tried robbing the central weapon house of Qity. It was supposed to be a restraint mission until they attacked and killed one of our squad members. What followed was a heavy battle till our 'warrior enforcer' Sergeant Ski defeated one them. The tide was in our favor, so it was cool when we had to start tracking the injured man on the run. His two other crew mates had left him and ran away. He had tried to shake us up from his trail, but due to my abilities I found out his life signature.

We had come all this way to capture him but he was taking us in circles...

_So UNETHICAL _

After sometime it seemed as though he came to a stop, like he was tired or he was baiting us in. There was a light rippling in the sound compass I had setup around us.

Good we had a tracker that uses Sound and life signature to track and not one that uses essence tracking.

I wasn't sure what the ripple was, but it was as tho his breathing rate had increased.

I was sure.

I know knew what he was doing

"Everyone get ready for impact. He is powering up a blast. I can only hear the distortion in the environment, I can't feel what he's creating".

All of a sudden there was a piercing howl in the environment.

Not only me heard it. It sounded extremely terrifying.

" I don't know what's going on but we shouldn't stand and wait for impact, We should run".

We all ran as fast our legs could carry us. The five of us leapt through obstructions and avoided trees.

I turned back for a second to see the source of the screech.

I barely made out a huge skull surrounded by red essence, or was it fire.

It destroyed whatever it came in contact with and it constantly grew.

That split second I turned around, I fell to the ground with a thud. I had fractured my foot.

I watched In horror as the skull collided with me.

I felt the sting of pain.

Then a deafening explosion, Then everything went black.

"So this is death".

The last thought that ran through my mind before all the pain ceased.

Bedrock POV

I kept running as fast as I could till a deafening explosion threw me off balance and unto the ground.

I was sure the man has escaped.

We had tried running around to evade the attack, but it was a ballistic seeking blast. More like a missile. It was only after the explosion I felt a sense of relief.

It was painful trying to get up, but I did anyway. I was happy until I looked around and saw that Both Amphelia and Ski were missing.

I looked at the impact source and saw the scattered remains of supposedly Amphelia and the charred remains of Ski.

They were really promising.

Amphelia was one of the only 120 trackers worldwide that used Sound and life signature. They were efficient and rare and were valuable assets.

Ski was an Enforcer and the sergeant level.

Damn.

I didn't even know whether I should run away or if I should...

What was I thinking.

I should never have allowed us to past the 'Tree Mountain'. I'm screwed as hell.

It was only I and a new recruit,

a private who were left.

I looked at him.

" let's go. Even if I no longer work for the force. I'm gonna have my revenge on this assholes...".

"That would have been a heroic speech if you could actually do something like that"

I turned back while stopping in my tracks

"What..."

He held up his hand shutting me up.

"The fact is you can't. Look were you led us. I was only following your orders. I knew this mission would be futile. I had read. Infact in training you had said that no one goes past the Mountains, and what did you do?.

On our first mission, you literally had three of our soldiers killed. What if I had died? I am so going to hellin tell the supervisors what you did here today. I am going to..."

I sent a massive blast straight at his heart. He was supposed to be dead In seconds, but fate has other plans for him... Or for me.

He gave a spin around the blast at close range and firmly planted his right foot in the ground twisting a little while raising his left leg to give a solid kick to my head.

I parried the attack, but the force was nearly overwhelming. I flew straight into the nearest tree.

He ran at me with a new instant burst.

It took me a few seconds to catch my senses who were already flying away, but it was too late.

He connected his fist to my stomach with such force that made me cough out blood.

He held me by the head and slammed me into the ground on my back.

He kept up with his barrage of physical assault, before he stopped leaving my b****y.

" there we're even". he said panting

'' oh hell we aren't" I jumped to my feet.and hopped a little up to prevent a sweeping feet to my legs.

He has expected my reaction to be that and had punched with his right hand.

I got into a defensive position and blocked.

The punch was to my chest and I was happy to escape that fatal hit, but the impact sent me into another tree.

Using my essence to wrap my body I cushioned the effect of the fall and blow.

He was next to me In an instant, green lightening crackling round his body.

I sent a blast and he dodged by meeting it head first and spinning of the blast while his hand connected to my stomach again. I flew a couple of feet into the sky and fell back with a pretty hard force.

How did he get this strong and who is this kid. I blacked out in an instant.

Doom POV

Everyone has their secret and I sure had mine. I attended a non gifted school but I was part of the force. This was my first mission, but I had run a lot of simulation to give me a lot of fighting experience.

I left the First sergeant on the floor and left the forest feeling bad.

A rushing wind of essence passed me.

"Huhhhh" I breathed out.

I sat down on a rock near a cave opening.

Looking on the floor I saw something that was carved on the floor. 'Baivan's Tomb'

I stood up immediately.

A voice intruded my head.

'Baivan isn't something you release'

"Ugh". I groaned. I heard the same thing when I was coming through here.

It was a really annoying voice.

I was not going to go open a stupid grave hole.

Even if I opened it. Didn't he die like ages ago?

Stupid.

I kept sitting for a couple of minutes before I called Control. I put in my most agitated voice.

I told them what happened but left the part were I beat up Bedrock.

I looked around for Candy.

She wasn't there anymore. Did she also die? Where did she go?
