Chapter 1: Accepted

Haylee.

I have been already accepted to two schools, I applied for four schools.

1 main school I wanna attend,

2 back ups schools,

1 last resort school.

I got accepted to both my back up schools, university of California and Penn State university.

I didn’t really wanna go to any other college accept one, but my dad told me I needed to apply to three more in case I don’t get in. So I did want he said, makes me nervous tho. I looked out my bedroom window, and saw the mailman putting mail in the mailbox, and what was in his hand got me all excited. He had a big white envelope in his hand that he was shoving into the mailbox. I went running downstairs and went out to mailbox, I opened it up and there it was NYU on the big white envelope!! I grabbed the mail and went running inside, as I got inside, I opened it up and be hold I got accepted into the school of my dreams.

“NYU HERE I COME!!!” I screamed

My mom and little sister come out from the kitchen.

“What’s going on, Honey? Why are you screaming? She asked me.

“Mom, I did it, I got in!!!” I said to her very excited.

“OMG Congrats, I knew you could do it. When your dad gets home, we will go out and celebrate.” She said to me.

“Yay awesome, I gotta go call Addison.” I said.

I ran up to my room and grabbed my phone, and clicked Addie’s name. It rang like 2 times before she answered.

“Hey!” She answered

“Hey, guess what!! I did it. I got into to NYU! I’m so happy right now.” I said to her.

“Oh congratulations, Haylee.” She said, she sounds weird.

“What’s wrong? I asked her.

“I didn’t get into the college I was wanting to get into.” She said to me.

“Oh, no! Really? I’m sorry, Addie.” I said to her.

“I did apply to NYU too, as my back up so I wonder if I got in.” She said

“That’s would be awesome. Us at the same College!!” I said.

“Ill call you when our mail gets here and let you know.” She said to me.

We hung the phone up I was just so happy. Graduation was in a couple months and I’ll no longer be a high schooler, I’ll be a College student, I couldn’t believe it.

I look at my phone and seen Brandon, my boyfriend texted me.

Brandon: hey babe, you coming to to Josh’s party tomorrow?

Me: is that even a question? Hell yeah I am. Are you picking me up?

Brandon: Yes! That’s why I am asking?! Your not bringing your lame friend, are you?

Me: Don’t be like that with my bestfriend. And yes I am, she needs to learn to have fun. so I am making her.

Brandon: Why? She is Lame, no fun.

Me: we will have fun, don’t worry. ;)

Brandon: that’s what I’m talking about, baby! But still, I don’t understand how Ian and her can be related! She’s lame, and he’s a badass! Lol

Me: it will be fine, guess what! I got accept on NYU!!! :)

Brandon: Congrats babe! We can celebrate tomorrow. Is your parents still leaving town in the morning?

Me: yes! But you can’t spend the night, they will be back morning on Sunday.

Brandon: ok see you tomorrow sexy!

Brandon and I have been dating for 7 months, and he’s the best I feel like. Other then the fact, he doesn’t like Addison, he think she’s boring. She’s just isn’t the kind of girl that like hooking ups, parties, or drinking. But I make her go with me anyway, so she could live a little. I heard my dads car pull up in the Garage! So I grabbed my letter and ran downstairs, my dad walked into the house and I met up with him,

“Dad, guess what!!!?” I said excitedly..

“What?” He says laughing at me.

I handed him, my college acceptance letter.

He eyes grew wide, “Congratulations, Haylee! He said hugging me.

That’s when my mom came in, “I am guessing she told you. Well we’re all gonna go out and celebrate. So why don’t you girls go get ready!” she said to us. Knowing that it’s gonna take me and my sister like 2 hours to get ready, we were going out til 5, she told us at 3. I went up the stairs, and went to find a nice outfit to wear.

I picked up my phone to see Addison texted me.

Addison: I got accept too!

Me: Yay does that mean your coming with me?

Addison: yes!!! Hey brother is coming to town, for the weekend. My mom said I could go to the party only if Ian takes me. Just a warning my brother will be there, is where I was going with this point.

Me: oh ok. I’ll see you there then. Brandon is picking me up before the party! :)

I started getting ready. I removed the makeup I was already wearing because I wanted to do something different. I started doing my make up then I curled my hair, I put a cute dress on. I sprayed myself with perfume and yes that took me 2 hours. I went down stairs, my sister was already down there, we headed off. My parents were taking to my favorite place, the Mexican restaurant, “Millie’s Queso.” We got to the restaurant and it was packed. It was a Friday evening, that would explain it. We were able to get a table. We sat down, and was handed menus.

“What can I get you to started off with for drinks? The waitress asked.

“Iced tea with lemon.” I said,

“Iced peach tea tea” my mom said.

“A coke” dad replied

“ Sprite” my sister said talking forever to figure out.

“So you excited for College, sweetheart? My dad asked me.

“Yes very!!” I said.

“Did you call your grandma to tell her you got in to NYU? He asked me.

“No yet, I will call her tomorrow.” I replied.

“You should tell her, you know since she is kindly paying for yours and your sisters college tuition.” He said to me.

“Do I get to keep the money if I don’t goto college, dad?” Erica said.

“No!” He replied.

My grandma isn’t your typical grandmother, she spoils us but not like most grandmas do. She doesn’t buy us stuff we want unless it’s for our birthday or Christmas. She will buy whatever we need when it comes to “needs.” Like she paying for mine and Erica’s college tuition, or just stuff that a necessity. She paid for my driver training but didn’t buy me a car. She’s a great grandma when it comes to that stuff. She won’t let my dad pay for it, even my mom tries and stops her.

We ordered and ate our food, we were almost done when my phone goes off.

Maddie: hey do you wanna hang out tonight? Let’s go to the beach. I think someone’s having a party on the beach!

“Can I hang out with Maddie tonight?” I asked.

My mom and dad look at each other,

“Yes since it’s not a school night. Be home by 1.” My dad says.

“2!” My mom said to me, my dad looks at her, “she’s almost 18, lean a little.” My mom said to him.

“Fine!” He said.

Me: Yess! Come pick me up at Millies Quesos!

Maddie: on my way.

Maddie came and got me. I got into her car,

“Ready?” She said. I nodded.

“So I seen you got into NYU!!” She added.

“Yes! I’m so excited.” I replied.

“I am so glad I’m not going to college next year, taking a year off. And spending it in Paris, I’m so excited.” She said.

“I’m excited for you. I am actually jealous, going to Paris is like a dream.” I said.

“Yeah I am excited.”

We arrived at the beach, the party technically til for another hour. But there already people here plus it’s the freaking beach, my favorite place. One thing I love about living in Florida is the beaches.

We were hanging out. Maddie was flirting with guys, I had guys hitting on me but I had a boyfriend, and I don’t believe in cheating, even tho they were hot guys. We’ve been here for a couple hours and there was so many people, I was having a blast. We were drinking and just having a good time. The beach where we were at, was back in the past wooded area, if there wasn’t a party at someone’s house it was here. I was dancing my heart out with some friends, and that’s until I ran into Ian. I literally dumped into him.

“Hey wat-“ he started saying til he saw it was me. “Well hey there, Haylee.” Looking me up and down.

“Hey Ian, I heard your coming home for the weekend.” I said.

“Yup how it’s going?” He asked.

“Good, I got accepted to NYU today. I’m excited and celebrating! Wooooo!” I said.

He giggles. “Awesome, your gotta hate it” he said.

“No you hate it, I am going to love it.” I said.

“Whatever you say.” He said, “I’ll see you around hopefully Haylee.” He added before winking and walking away.

Gosh, I was blushing the whole damn time, hopefully he didn’t notice. I’m sure he did tho, ughhh. I have always had a crush on, Ian and if he was anyone else I would of probably went for it. But he’s one of my best friends brother, I couldn’t. I started hanging out with people, talking drinking and more, I was definitely was passed the buzzed stage. I was walking and next thing I know, Maddie is grabbing me and turning me around,

“What you doing?” I asked.

“Uh nothing. I want you to go with me to get another drink, please.” SHe said acting weird.

That’s when I turned around because I had a feeling she was keeping me from seeing something behind me. When I turned around that’s when I saw it, my boyfriend was making out with Megan, the captain of our cheer squad..I was shocked, I opened my month to scream but nothing came out. I walked over to them, and tapped on their shoulders, when Brandon looked up and saw me he was shocked, and surprised to see me. Megan on the the other hand was smiling at me.

“Babe? What are you doing here? It’s not what it looks like.” He said to me.

“You weren’t just making out with her?” I replied.

He didn’t say anything to me, I turned to Megan,

“You can keep him, he too small anyway..” I said winking at her.

I walked away, I lied and was upset but I didn’t want him to know that, I went to get another drink. Chugged it, and got another one,

“Haylee, don’t, he’s not worth it.” A man said that was standing behind me. I turned around to seen Ian stand right behind me.

“He probably isn’t but still men are just all the same, thinking they can get away with it. So you know what I am gonna to do to piss him off, I’m going to find a man too hookup with.” I said.

He giggled.

“Why are are you laughing at me?” I asked.

“I can help with that!” He said to me, “well the making him get jealous and mad. Not the hooking up part” he added.

“Why would you do that?” I asked.

“Well for starters, I f******* hate Brandon. For two, your my little sister’s best friend, I got your back.” He said.

“Thanks…let’s do it.” I said.

We saw Brandon dancing with Megan, he grabbed my hand and started dancing with me. I was dancing while he was behind me grinding up against my a** and putting his hand out my waist. I looked over and Brandon’s eyes on us, looking angry.

“ Mission accomplished” I said out loud.

“Good, cmon.” He said to me as he stops dancing and grabbed my hand walking away.

He walked towards the water more then started walking down it, he never let go of my hand, he just held it tight.

“So you ready for High school to be over?” He asked me.

“Yes, I am kinda over high school and the stupid drama.” I said, “I am ready for College, not having my parents tell me what time I have to be home, parties, even then colleges boys!”

He laughed, “that is the best part about college, well except for the boys part, more like girls. He said.

I laughed at him, and rolled my eyes.

“Did I mention that you look amazingly stunning tonight?” He said to me.

“Are you flirting me right now?” I asked him smiling.

“No, I just starting facts. Just like you look stunning in everything you wear..” he said. “Except that cheerleader uniform, I can’t stand cheer leaders.” He added.

“So you can’t stand me? Addison?” I asked

“No, my sister is my sister maybe she can be annoying sometimes but I love my sister. And for you, if I couldn’t stand you do you think I would be here with you walking down the beach, holding your hand this entire time?” He asked me.

“You have?” I looked down and still saw our hands still connected.

He smiled at me.

We finally stopped and he sat on the ground, asking me to sit between his legs. I cleared my throat and didn’t move.

“Come on I don’t bite,” he said to me.

He puts his hand out, reaching for my hand.

I gave him my hand and went down to sit where he wanted me to. He put his arms around me and we just watched the water.

“This is so relaxing” he says.

“Agreed.” She said. I feel confused on what’s happening tonight.

“Ian?” I said.

“Yes?” He replied.

“What are we doing? Not that I’m complaining, but why…nevermind.. forget I said anything.”

“Haylee..”

I turned my body a little bit to face him, and that’s when it happened, his lips landed on my lips, he started to kiss me and I was just shocked. After a minute, I realize what happen and pushed away, got up and starting running back to the party.

“s**t,” I heard him say behind me. Next thing I know he caught up with me and grabs my hand.

“Haylee stop.” He says.

“Your my best friends brother, I can’t. I can’t hook up with you.” I stated.

“You think that’s what I was doing was trying to hook up with you, I told you back at the party I wasn’t gonna do that” he said to me.

“Then what was that? What was all of this?” I asked, starting to get upset.

“I was trying to show you not all guys are like that. There are some that are good guys.” He said to me.

“And you think, you a good guy. You are a bad boy, who drinks, smokes, and sleeps around not giving a f*** about other girls feelings. Gets in fights, skips class…should I go on.” I said.

“I am not saying I ain’t all those things you just said. I do have a heart, I am just damaged.” He said.

“How? What has exactly damaged you?” I asked.

“My mom..” he said.

“What has Elizabeth done to you to make you damage?, I always have seen her as good mom to you and Addison.” I started.

“Elizabeth is my mom, but she not my biological mother. She left me when I was a baby. Well she was actually just never around, after she had me, she dropped me off at my dads door step from what I hear.” He said to me.

“When did you find this out?” I asked him.

“Freshmen year of high school.” He said, “that’s why I changed when I went to high school.”

“How?” I asked him.

“You remember Eric Loudman?” He asked me.

“Ew, yes. He was always full of himself, and an asshole.” I stated .

“He’s my cousin, through my biological mothers side. We had a school project and it was something we couldn’t avoid because it was affected our grade from passing that class. Well I went over to his house, and his mom was there, and so was her sister. He introduced me, and and the their eyes grew wide, I was confused. That’s when we went to work on that stupid project, I went down stairs to get me a drink, and that’s when I over heard them talking. They were talking about me, and how she gave me up and how she never thought she would see me again because she thought we moved and other s***.” He told me.

“Omg I am sorry!” I said grabbing his arm.

“I just went back and did the project then went home. I asked my parents about it, and that’s when they told me the whole story. My whole life was a lie, don’t get me wrong I am thankful for Elizabeth for raising me and just being my mom, but I was broken. That all changed me, I started drinking more then just at parties, smoking, ditching school. Having a lot more s*x when I was a sophomore. It is what it is.” He said to me.

“I am so sorry, Addison never told me.” I stated.

“That’s because Addison doesn’t know, and I would like to keep it that way, so would my parents.” He started.

“I won’t tell anyone, I promise!” I said hugging him.

“That kiss just happened, I wasn’t planning on kissing you, but I felt good.” He said to me.

“It may of felt good but it wasn’t a good idea. Your sister is my brother. Please don’t tell her, let me. I don’t keep secrets from her.” I said.

“I don’t tell my sister who I kiss anyway!” He said to me. “Did you have fun tonight tho?” He asked

“With you, yes.” I said.

He smiled at me and took my hand, let’s go. I’ll take you home.”

I smiled, he took my hand and we started walking towards the party where his Jeep was.

As we were walking up towards the vehicles, that’s when someone had stopped us.

“What were you doing with him?” Brandon asked me, angry.

“None of your business,” Ian said to him, still holding my hand just tightening his grip a little more.

“It is my business, a******! This is my girl,” he said yelling at Ian.

“Actually no I am not anymore, you lost me when you were kissing Megan. So why don’t you go find her because we’re done.” I said to him.

I started pulling Ian’s arm, as I started walking to the car.

He opened the door for me then shut it. Then went around the other side and got in. He started the car and we were on our way to my house.

“I am surprised you didn’t fight him back there. I am quite proud of you.” I said to him.

He chuckled, “If you werent standing right next me, I would of.”

We didn’t talk to much on the ride to my house. He turned music on, and I knew some of the songs that played, I started singing the ones I knew, and dancing a little bit. I saw him laugh at me. We finally arrived to my house, and he turned me to me,

“Well I guess I’ll see you around.” He said winking at me.

“Thanks for tonight, you made me feel better. Also thanks for sharing your secret with me.” I said smiling at him.

“No problem, I am here for you, Haylee. Don’t forget that.” He said.

We said goodbye and I got outta of this Jeep and headed in side. I went up stairs and just laid in my bed, just thinking about what happen tonight. I am scared how Addison gonna react tomorrow when I tell her about the kiss. Uh, I am so nervous now. I got up took a shower and brushed my teeth, got some pjs on and then crawled into bed. I started feeling the headache come one so I closed my eyes and went to sleep.
