Peace at LastThe return to Heligoland and the coast of Schleswig-Glückstadt had brought a lull in the action of the last few months. There was little more than the numerous fishing vessels to inspect, and Petroc took the opportunity to write several letters to Miss Silke and the Freiherr. Around Glückstadt itself and the Elbe, the allied armies of Sweden, Austria and Prussia tightened their grip on the city and the river as the spring advanced toward summer.
“Désirée has signaled, sir. All captains to repair on board.”
Petroc looked up from studying the ship’s accounts, a task he had never relished. “Thank you, Mister Kaye. Call my gig. I shall be up directly.”
“The Emperor has withdrawn from Paris, gentlemen, and is considering the Allied ultimatum.” Captain Farquhar looked
