"ARIANNE, CAN YOU MANAGE the museum for the rest of the day?" Aela asked her best friend while putting the folders back on the shelf.
The woman pushed her eyeglasses towards the space between her eyes before c*****g her head to the side. "You will leave early? It's only one in the afternoon."
Aela looked at her best friend with disbelief. Her eyes squinted a little bit as her forehead creased. "Do you not know what date it is today?" she asked with her hands on her hips.
Arianne looked at her blankly. "I wouldn't ask if I knew it. Duh?"
"Today's Ignacio's and my anniversary!" Aela stomped her feet before hitting Arianne's back with her palm. "How can you forget that? You were my maid of honor that day!"
Her best friend raised her right eyebrow and looked at Aela with a funny expression as if she was mocking her friend. "Oh, right. The day you married the love of your life," Arianne responded with sarcasm. She can almost roll her eyes while speaking.
Aela sighed at her friend's expression. Since she and Ignacio became officially dating, Arianne was the first one to disagree with their relationship. She kept on stating that Ignacio didn't match with Aela and that Aela didn't deserve to be with someone like him.
But in Aela's eyes, she and her husband are a perfect match. Ignacio is like a saint in her eyes. He's not like other men who kept on jumping from one woman to another.
In their seven years of marriage, Ignacio remained a faithful husband and a loving father to their only daughter, Ania. Their life is perfect.
"You still don't like my husband?" Aela asked her friend before clinging to her arms. Arianne pouted before pulling her arm out.
"I never liked him, and I will never like him," Arianne replied. "I don't know what you saw in that man and you're head over heels for him."
She turned her body to Aela and looked straight into her eyes. "Look, you're even working in this museum instead of focusing on your daughter."
"But my husband is also working," Aela refuted.
"Yeah? Working as the Chairman and President of the company that you inherited," Arianne replied while pointing her finger at her best friend repeatedly. "You're supposed to be in that position, Aela! I can never understand why you gave him half of your shares! You're the heir of that weapons company but you chose to give it to an inexperienced man just because he is your husband."
Aela didn't back down. Instead, she continued defending her husband. "He's not inexperienced. He worked in corporate before. Besides, I don't want to work for that company. I like it here in the museum."
"Oh really? Maybe I was hallucinating when you told me that you dreamed of being the president of that company when we were in high school," Arianne crossed her arms and looked like a hostile mother to her friend.
"I was just joking—"
Arianne put her finger on her lips to shut her up. "Don't lie. You want that company but you gave it to him because you're so in love with him," she spoke although the words she wanted to say were that Aela is a lovesick fool.
"You know what? I can't control what your decision will be, but I'm here to make sure that you're happy," Arianne just gave a small smile because she knew her best friend wouldn't back down and they might end up fighting again. "Go on. Celebrate your anniversary with your husband."
Aela smiled widely before hugging her friend. "Thank you, Arianne! I will make it up to you tomorrow."
"Yeah, yeah," Arianne waved her hand while focusing on the papers on her desk. "Go now. You only have a few hours before your daughter's class dismissal."
With huge excitement, Aela left the museum and rode a bus towards her husband's favorite cake shop. The tires of her car weren't fixed yet so she had no choice but to use public transportation.
"Here's your order, ma'am," the baker spoke while carrying a golden square box.
"Thank you," Aela replied with a smile before leaving.
Her heart is filled with happiness while traveling back home. She can't wait to cook delicious meals for her husband and wait for him to come home.
For their past anniversaries, it was always Ignacio who made efforts for their celebration. Now, it's her time to make it up to him. And maybe give him another child since Ania is already five years old.
After riding off the bus, Aela walked towards their subdivision with the box of cake in her hands. It wasn't a long walk from the gate, and after a few minutes, she spotted a familiar car parked in their garage.
"Ignacio's here?" she asked herself while staring at the car, making sure that it was her husband's.
Thinking that her husband had gone home early for their anniversary, Aela walked inside the house with quiet steps. She put down the box on the table before putting the black forest cake out of the container.
"He will like this," she whispered in her mind while staring at the cake in her hands.
Slowly, she walked up to their bedroom as she thought that her husband was inside because of the noises coming from it.
The nearer she got to the door, the wider her smile became. She can already imagine the surprise on her husband's face once she opened the door.
However, her smile slowly faded as the noises became clear. She can hear the voice of her husband talking to somebody — groaning. Another woman's voice mixed with his sounds with a sound similar to clapping repeatedly echoing.
With trembling hands and a thumping heart, she reached for the doorknob and slowly turned it, opening the door to their bedroom.
Her whole body stiffened as her eyes landed on the scene happening inside their bedroom. Her eyes widened with tears, and her hands lost their strength, making the cake fall to the floor.
Her husband of seven years is standing on the floor, just beside the end of the bed, as he moves his hips back and forth to the woman who is on all fours.
The woman looked younger than her and was moaning loudly. They didn't even notice Aela standing by the door even if she already made a sound.
Aela can't believe what she's seeing. Her husband is having s*x with another woman on their bed — the bed where they sleep and make love every night.
Suddenly, Aela found her focus between the tears. She picked up the destroyed cake before launching toward the woman, smashing it to her face.
"What the f**k?!" Ignacio and the woman shouted in unison, irritated because their heated moment was ruined.
They both stood up and turned towards Aela who was staring at them with disgust and hatred — mostly directed towards the woman.
"Who are you?!" Aela screamed before pulling the woman's hair and dragging her outside the bedroom. "What are you doing with my husband?!"
"Ouch!" the woman shouted in pain while trying to remove Aela's hand from her hair.
Aela dragged her down the stairs, which gave intense pain to the woman as she was still naked. Every part of her body hit the edge of the stairs.
"Nash! Help me!" the woman called for Ignacio while stretching her hands toward him.
Aela couldn't stop her anger, just because a woman called her husband by his nickname. "Don't call my husband like that! How dare you taint him!"
She was about to push the woman out of the house when someone grabbed the woman from Aela's grip. It was so strong that Aela stumbled and lost her grip on the woman.
When she turned back, she saw her husband hugging the woman while covering her with their blanket. Her eyes widened and her forehead creased, as she could not believe what her husband was doing.
"Caro," Aela called her husband. "What are you doing?"
Ignacio turned to her with glaring eyes. "You! What are you doing?!" he shouted at her. "How dare you hurt my Sera like that! b***h!"
A huge knife stabbed Aela's heart repeatedly, almost making her bleed. In their years of relationship, Ignacio never raised his voice on her, nor called her offensive words.
"What?" Aela's voice cracked. "I'm your wife, caro."
Ignacio just laughed at her response before pulling her mistress towards his body closer. That action alone was enough for Aela to know that their relationship wasn't that shallow.
"Yeah, an old wife," he mocked her before caressing Sera's slender shoulders.
The woman, who was crying because of pain earlier, is now smirking at Aela. In her mind, she knew that she already won. An old woman like Aela wouldn't stand a chance against him.
Aela pointed at herself and asked, "Me? Old? I'm only 30, Ignacio. You're 38. Now tell me, who's old?"
Irritated, Ignacio slapped Aela's face, earning a chuckle from Sera. "You now dare to talk to me like that? Compared to you, several ladies are still after me," he made a smug face at her. "And you? You're now expired, Mykhaela. Women like you already lost their value. Besides, you can't satisfy me."
He turned his head to Sera and smiled. "Unlike Sera. She's more beautiful. She's sexier, and much fresher than a rotting woman like you."
Aela could take the insults her own husband spoke to her. He looked and acted like a different person. The Ignacio in front of her is far from the Ignacio she married.
"How long?" she asked while clenching her fists. "How long have you been cheating on me?!"
Ignacio didn't even give an ounce of attention to his angry and hurting wife. "Three years."
Aela was taken aback by his response. "Three years? That long?"
"Yeah, and you were just so dumb not to notice it," Sera answered with her very feminine voice while hugging Aela's husband seductively in front of her.
Aela shook her head repeatedly. "No, you're lying," she looked at her husband and tried to reach him. "Caro, you're just confused. I'm sure this woman seduced you, and—"
She can't even finish her words because Ignacio already pushed her away, seemingly disgusted by her touch. "Don't touch me, dirty old woman."
Suddenly, their maid showed up while carrying two suitcases. The maid was looking down while walking.
"Oh, here it is," Ignacio spoke. "Here are yours and Ania's things. I am merciful enough not to leave you with nothing."
Aela's eyes landed on the suitcases in front of her. "What are these? What are you doing?"
Ignacio put his hand on Sera's shoulder and answered. "Sera will live here from now on. You and your child can find another place. I don't care where just do not show your faces at her."
"I'm your wife, Ignacio! Ania is also your daughter! Your flesh and blood! You can't bring another woman into my house!" she screamed at him, the veins on her neck almost popping out.
"I don't care about you or your child. And for the record," he stomped his feet. "This is my house. It's under my name."
"But I paid for this! I used my own money on this! You can't make me leave!" she replied before grabbing the house keys on the table.
Ignacio hurriedly snatched the keys from her and looked at her with a stern face. "Of course! You paid for it, but in the eyes of the law, this is mine. This house is in my name," he spoke before calling the guards. "Take her out! I don't want to see her face inside my house."
He left with Sera clinging on him. Two guards who were working for Aela before grabbed her and pulled her outside the house.
"Ignacio!" she called her husband's name repeatedly. "Ignacio! Let me in! This is my house! I'm your wife!"
But her words fell on deaf ears. The guards pushed her out and was followed but the two suitcases.
It was raining heavily. The sound of the rain hitting every roof echoed with Aela's voice.
"Ignacio! Let me in! Please!" she cried under the rain while shaking the tall metallic gate. "Please think of our daughter! Ignacio!"
No one paid attention to her. Almost an hour passed and Aela almost lost her voice, but no one answered her calls. In the end, she was defeated. She was left alone outside while her husband and his mistress lived comfortably in the house that she made for her own family.
