Chapter 13

502 Words
The following afternoon, Roxxanne had arrived at Murphy's office building, her heart pounding with anticipation. She had dressed carefully, choosing an outfit that was both professional and reminiscent of the adventurous spirit they had once shared. The secretary had left a visitor pass for her at the front desk. Roxxanne received it and made her way to the elevator, her palms sweating with nervousness she felt. She had rehearsed what she wanted to say a thousand times in her mind, but now that the moment arrived, her words seemed to escape her. The elevator ride felt like an eternity, each floor bringing her closer to the meeting that she didn't know what the outcome would be. Finally, she reached the designated floor and followed the directions to Murphy's office. As she approached the entrance, she saw the secretary standing outside the door. The secretary saw her and they exchanged nervous glances, both aware of the tension that hung in the air. The loud and angry voices coming from behind the closed office door signaled that something was amiss. Before they could even knock, they heard Murphy shouting in anger. "I've had enough of your games." Murphy shouted, slamming his fist on the desk. Then he stormed out of the office, his face flushed with anger. Roxxane's heart sank as she saw the coldness in his eyes, a far cry from the man she had known. Murphy's gaze shifted to Roxxanne, and for a brief moment, their eyes locked. It was as if a spark of recognition flickered in his eyes, but it was quickly overshadowed by the storm of emotions that raged within him. "Take the i***t outside of my office before I put a bullet through his F***ing head." Roxxanne and the secretary exchanged alarmed glances as Murphy's words reverberated through the corridor. Without another word, he hurried down the hallway, leaving Roxxane and the secretary in his wake. When they recovered from the situation, they both rushed into the office, finding a disheveled man cowering in the corner, his face pale. Roxxanne could hardly believe what had just happened before her eyes. Murphy's outburst was unlike anything she had expected, and it left her feeling even more uncertain about the path she had chosen. The secretary turned to Roxxanne, her expression sympathetic. "I'm sorry, I apologize for the scene you just witnessed. This is not the best time, Mr. Mertill is in a lot of stress lately. Let's reschedule the meeting for another time." Roxxanne nodded, her voice trembling slightly. "Yes, of course, I understand. Please, let Mr. Mertill know that I'll comeback when he's ready." The secretary give her a reassuring smile. As Roxxanne made her way to the elevator, she couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment and concern. Something was clearly bothering Murphy. She can feel it. I'll give you the time you need, Murphy (Alex), but I won't give up on us. Our memories are too precious to forget, and our son Murphy is waiting for you.
