How could I say it? Where could I begin? "Oh Adam," I sighed, searching for the words. "My mother sold me off to some arrogant rich man." The reality of it hit me like a cold splash of water, and I braced myself for his reaction.
"I'm getting married, Adam," I continued, my voice barely above a whisper. "I think my mother…" Before I could finish, Adam lightly tapped my shoulder, grounding me in the moment.
"What are you thinking about so much?" he asked, one eyebrow raised in that familiar way that indicated he was suspicious of something.
I smiled, relieved that I hadn't said anything incriminating. Thinking of what lie to tell, "I had another fight with mother." That was supposed to be a good lie, I always fought with my mother.
Adam gave me a skeptical look, he knew I always fought with my mother but I had never once cried about it. So what could the fight be about?
"What did you guys fight about?" He asked.
Not ready for the conversation I stood up and made my way towards the office and Adam followed shutting the door behind him.
I tiptoed up to him, leaning in to press my lips against his. The sudden kiss surprised him but Adam didn’t pull away, instead, he reciprocated softly, kissing me with a tenderness that made my heart race.
It hadn’t even been twenty-four hours since I last saw him, yet the longing I felt surprised me; I knew it was the same for him.
He eventually pulled back, his eyes searching mine, filled with unasked questions.
I could feel his concern, but I wasn’t ready for that conversation just yet.
"Let's talk about that later, there's something better I'd like to do now."
A light chuckle escaped his lips at my words, Adam captured my lips once more, this time with a fervor that sent shivers down my spine.
His hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me close to him as if trying to get me into his skin.
Adam's hands grasped my hips, lifting me up. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my body pressed tightly against his.
Our lips met again, the kiss fierce and all-consuming.
I felt like I was home, like I was exactly where I was meant to be.
He carried me toward the office desk. Gently, he set me down, and for a fleeting moment, I felt weightless.
Adam's lips left mine and began tracing a path down my neck to my collarbone. A gasp escaped my lips…, his kisses hot and urgent.
My head fell back, my eyes closing as I let myself get lost in the sensation.
His hands roamed over my body, his fingers tracing the curves of my hips and thighs.
I felt a rush of excitement, my body arching into his touch.
Our lips met again and this time he deepened the kiss, his tongue tangling with mine.
My heart pounded in my chest, my senses overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment.
As we pulled away, gasping for air, Adam's eyes locked on mine.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted us.
"Adam, can I talk to you for a minute?" a soft voice called from outside the door.
Adam's eyes met mine, and he nodded.
"I'll be right back," he whispered, before turning to open the door.
A young woman with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes stood in the doorway.
"Hey, Adam," she said, smiling brightly.
"I was just wondering if you'd finished the order for the Smiths' party."
Adam nodded, his expression friendly.
"Yeah, I finished it earlier. It's all set to go."
The woman smiled, her eyes sparkling.
"Great, thanks. I'll let them know."
As she turned to leave, I noticed the way she smiled at Adam, the way her eyes lingered on his face.
It was a fleeting moment, but I felt a pang of... something. Not quite jealousy, but a sense of unease.
Adam closed the door and turned back to me, his expression soft.
"Where were we?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
I smiled, pushing aside my doubts.
"I think we were right here," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
Adam's eyes locked on mine, and he smiled.
"Right here," he repeated, before pulling me into his arms once more.
