Surviving the Depths

Alex didn't give up, he kept searching every corner of the room, hoping to find an intact oxygen bottle or hand lamp. All he found were broken pieces of the ship’s wreckage. He felt time running out, and his breath was gradually fading. He tried to get out quickly but couldn’t remember the way he came in. Darkness surrounded him on all sides, and he couldn’t distinguish up from down. He felt panic and despair and began to bang on the ship’s walls forcefully, trying to send a signal to Jack to come and guide him. But he heard no response from Jack, only the lonely echo of his pounding in the water. He didn’t know that his friend Jack was in grave danger outside the ship. A giant octopus was lurking, using its camouflage abilities to hide among the rocks and algae. When the octopus felt the time was right, it struck Jack like lightning, grabbing him with its eight strong tentacles and squeezing him harshly. Jack screamed in pain and tried to free himself from the octopus’s grip, but to no avail. He felt his lungs inflate, his eyes tear up, and his consciousness slowly fade away. Meanwhile, Jack, trapped in the octopus’s tentacles, heard consecutive knocks coming from inside the ship. He knew it was a signal from Alex asking for help. But Jack’s consciousness was slowly fading… At the same time, Alex, who couldn’t distinguish up from down, felt panic and despair and was about to give up, feeling time running out and his breath gradually fading. At that moment, he touched something in one of the corners. He quickly examined it and found it to be an intact oxygen bottle, unaffected by the explosion. Alex carefully grabbed it, opened the valve, and put his mouth on the mask. He felt the fresh air fill his lungs, and life returned to him at last; he was able to breathe. Then he roamed the sunken ship searching for hand lamps. Fortunately, he found an intact hand lamp in one of the corridors, grabbed it, and lit his way. When he emerged from the ship, he was shocked by what he saw. Jack was trapped in the tentacles of the massive octopus, looking pale and exhausted. Alex didn’t think twice and rushed towards his friend at full speed, defying the danger. He reached Jack and hit the octopus several times with the oxygen bottle in his hand, trying to push it away. Then he placed the bottle in Jack’s mouth and gave him some air. Jack felt relief and took a deep breath. Alex didn’t stop; he pulled his dagger from his belt and stabbed the octopus several times in its body. Then he cut off one of its tentacles with a strong blow. The octopus let out a thunderous scream, released Jack, and threw its black ink into the water, trying to hide itself and escape. But Alex was ready for it, followed it with his eyes, then grabbed his friend and began swimming towards the surface. However, the octopus didn’t give up and followed them angrily. It caught up with them and tried to separate them, but Jack had regained his strength, took the oxygen bottle, and handed it to Alex. Then he headed towards the octopus, grabbed one of its tentacles, and clung to it. He swam towards the octopus’s head and stabbed it several times in its eyes and mouth. The octopus, in severe pain, fled after its body was filled with wounds. Alex and Jack emerged from the water, breathing heavily. They looked at each other tiredly. They had survived certain death. After Alex and Jack survived the giant octopus, they did not succumb to fear or exhaustion. Instead, they decided to return to the sunken ship and take some of the equipment they were looking for. They knew there were many useful things on the ship that they would not have another chance to retrieve. They took their daggers and the oxygen bottle with them. Then they swam towards the ship and entered it. This time, they did not just go to the equipment room but also explored other areas of the ship. Everywhere they went, they found some items of interest, gathered all they could carry, and placed them in the bags they found. Each time they found something important, they felt happy and proud, exchanging smiles. After they finished their tour of the ship, they decided to return to the beach. They had spent a long time underwater and needed rest and relaxation. They swam towards the exit, and when they emerged from the ship, they looked around and made sure there were no octopuses or other marine creatures threatening them. Then they swam towards the surface and saw the sun shining in the sky, feeling warmth and safety. They started swimming towards the beach, but they were carrying two full bags, which made swimming very difficult due to the weights pulling them towards the bottom. Jack felt exhausted and doubted his ability to continue swimming. Alex tried to encourage him to keep going despite feeling the same exhaustion. However, Jack could not continue and decided to leave the bag and return to the beach to rest before coming back to retrieve the bag. But Alex refused to do so and warned him that he would not be able to find the bag again if he left it. Jack continued to swim with all his strength, and despite the weight of the bag dragging him down, he struggled to stay on the surface. As he continued to advance, he involuntarily swallowed seawater, which made him face the risk of choking. The difficulty increased over time, and he felt the distance to the beach was too far, although the reality was different. Jack was determined to survive and reach the beach, continuing to move forward with determination and perseverance. Meanwhile, Alex, despite his fatigue, approached the beach and continued swimming, noticing that the distance beneath him was decreasing as he advanced. Finally, he was able to stand on his feet and called Jack to hurry and join him because the water was no longer deep. Jack arrived with difficulty and stood beside him, then they walked together until they emerged from the water. On the beach, they placed their bags on the sand. Then they collapsed onto the ground, took deep breaths, and looked at each other. They had succeeded in their mission, obtained what they wanted, and returned safely. Suddenly, they heard the voices of Noor and Lena, their friends who had been waiting for them on the beach. They had been worried about them, as they had not returned on time and had not sent any signal. When they saw them on the beach, their faces lit up with joy, and they ran towards them, then asked them what had happened to them and how their underwater journey was. Alex and Jack recounted all the details of the struggle they had with the giant octopus and how they miraculously survived. They also told them about the things they found in the sunken ship and the dangers they faced. Noor and Lena listened to their story with astonishment and admiration, and thanked God for their safety. Lena opened the bags and found in them hand lamps, medicines, firearms, and a lot of ammunition. Lena was amazed by what she saw, but among all these things, something caught Lena’s attention in particular, which was the scientific microscope that was intact and clean. When she saw it, she was filled with happiness and excitement. Jack noticed her reaction, and since he was the one who found the microscope, he decided to give it to her as a gift. He gave her the microscope and said to her: “This is for you, Lena. I know you love science and you deserve this microscope. I hope it helps you in your research.” Lena was very happy and thanked Jack warmly, then took the microscope and started to try it out, looking through it at some small things. She was very happy with her microscope and couldn’t take her eyes off it, as it became the perfect companion in her scientific journey.
