Chase
Chase walked through the packhouse greeting pack members as he made his way to the kitchen. Being the Alpha of a very large werewolf pack meant that he had to check in with everyone he saw and make sure that they were doing well. Keeping his pack safe, happy, and healthy was his number one priority, but it would be nice if he could find his mate and have someone with whom he could share his ever-growing workload.
“Hey Chase,” Justin, his Beta and second in command greeted him as he made his way to the kitchen table.
Justin was more than just his Beta, he was family. His father and Justin’s father were brothers. So the cousins had grown up knowing that one day they would be running the pack together.
“Hey Justin,”Chase replied. He then turned to greet his Gamma, Lucien. “How’s it going buddy?”
“Actually, there’s something strange going on,” Lucien told him seriously, “the lady that bought the old Allen place smells like a wolf or maybe a Lycan, but Zeppelin couldn’t sense her wolf.”
Chase frowned, as Alpha of the Silver Claw Pack, he was going to have to investigate and make sure that this woman wasn’t a threat to his pack.
“I guess I’ll go and introduce myself as a new neighbor and see what’s going on over there,” he told the two men.
As they dug into breakfast, he wondered why someone would smell like a wolf or even more strangely a Lycan, but not have a wolf that could be sensed. Lycans rarely left their realm. He had gone to their realm not too long ago to apply for a land grant there. The humans had been encroaching on his territory far too much and they were liable to kill a wolf if they saw one in the swamp. Since werewolf law prohibited killing humans, the wolves were unable to defend themselves, although they were much harder to kill than a regular wolf, it wasn’t impossible.
Kyrie
She sighed as she stood with her hands on her hips staring at the alligator that was blocking her from getting off of her porch. He was huge and showing no desire to move out of the way.
“Please move,” she pleaded with the giant reptile, “I need to get to my truck and the guys will be here to deliver my kitchen table soon.”
The giant dinosaur didn’t even move his head and she had a feeling that an animal like this didn’t do anything it didn’t want to do.
She didn’t notice the man that had walked up for a moment until he spoke.
“Excuse me ma’am,” said he said in a deep voice with a delicious Cajun accent.
“Oh hello,” she said awkwardly. This man was gorgeous. He was very tall, probably at least 6’4, maybe a little taller. His body was toned and muscular which she could tell in detail because of the tight t-shirt he was wearing. Dark brown hair and warm brown eyes paired with full lips drawn in a smile, had her melting on the inside.
Chase was absolutely shocked, his wolf Robicheaux was screaming Mate! Mate! in his head. Not to mention that a huge reptile shifter was blocking her way down the steps. He shook his head trying to come to his senses.
“Robicheaux, do you sense her wolf?” Chase asked him.
Robicheaux calmed down for a minute and was silent before replying, “She is a Lycan, but something is wrong. Her wolf is bound, and I don’t think she knows that she is a Lycan.”
“We’re going to have to be careful. If she doesn’t realize that she is a Lycan and her wolf is bound, she’s not going to feel the mate bond,”Chase told his wolf.
Robicheaux whined but stayed quiet so Chase could try to figure out this strange situation.
Chase walked up behind the fourteen foot gator, that was in fact a reptile shifter. Grabbing it by the tail he dragged it backwards several feet. “I don’t know what your game is but you need to go,” he told it.
The gator growled menacingly but turned and walked over to the water and began to swim away.
Chase took the opportunity to walk up to the bottom of her stairs. He stood there looking at the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. She was short maybe 5’4 with warm caramel colored skin. Her eyes were light brown and she had short curly black hair. She walked down the steps towards him and he swallowed, feeling overwhelmed by the pull of the mate bond.
“It’s nice to meet you,” she said, “My name is Kyrie.”
She held out her small hand to shake his and he grasped her hand, which she abruptly pulled back. “Sorry you shocked me.”
Chase was a little stumped. She clearly felt something when they touched, just as he had felt the sparks that were caused by the mate bond. But she seemed oblivious to the bond.
“Robicheaux, see if you can speak to her Lycan,” Chase told his wolf.
“I’m sorry about that Kyrie. I’m Chase, I’m your neighbor, I live a little ways down the road from here,” he told her.
Kyrie nearly melted when he said her name. This insane attraction to stranger was weird. Not to mention she felt that weird stirring in her mind again, much more strongly than any other time it had happened.
Looking up at him, she smiled, “Thank you for coming by to introduce yourself.”
He swallowed visibly as he stared into her eyes. “It’s no problem. But let me give you my number, just in case you have problems with that alligator again.”
“Let me go grab my phone,” she replied.
They exchanged numbers and Chase went on his way, more confused than he was when he first heard about this from his Gamma.
“Robicheaux, were you able to speak to her wolf,” Chase asked.
“I did for a minute. Why are we leaving our mate?” he asked.
“Because she doesn’t know what we are, that she is a Lycan, and she doesn’t feel the mate bond,” Chase replied, “What did her wolf say?”
“She needs our help. That she’s a special Lycan but she’s been bound by a witch since mate was a baby,” Robicheaux answered.
“A witch,” Chase muttered to himself, “I guess we need to pay Tabitha a visit.”
“Yes, let’s help mate,” Robicheaux said and Chase could see him wagging his tail in his mind.
