Kyrie
"Well son," Charles said, clapping Chase on the shoulder, "Let's get inside because we need to discuss the visit from the Royal Lycans tomorrow. We have a lot to go over to make sure that we are ready."
"And we need to get you a dress for the banquet we are preparing for them tomorrow," Lydia said to her, linking her arm through Kyrie's and walking up the stairs.
"Our parents are coming tomorrow," Kahlan told her.
"Our parents passed away in that fire two years ago," Kyrie replied, confused.
"No, our Lycan parents are coming," Kahlan said.
"Oh, I don't know if I'm ready for that," Kyrie said sadly, “As wonderful as my adopted parents were, I’ve never understood why my real parents gave me up.”
“Well, I’ve always been with you,” Kahlan told her, “And my father’s Lycan told me why they did what they did. And it makes sense, so I think you’ll understand when they explain it to you.”
“Kyrie, I can’t wait to plan your Luna ceremony,” Lydia chirped happily, interrupting her conversation with her Lycan.
“I don’t know if Chase told you, but I was raised by human adoptive parents, so I really don’t know anything about being a Luna at all,” Kyrie said.
“Don’t worry about it too much. I’ve seen how you interact with the pack members so far, and I think you are a natural," Lydia replied warmly.
"So how does this visit with the Royals work? What time will they be arriving? And how should I dress for meeting them and also the banquet that you mentioned?" Kyrie asked, feeling a little overwhelmed.
"Relax my dear, I have a lady on the way with dresses for you to try on. And I have already given the omegas the details for the banquet. They are preparing the formal dining hall, as we speak," Lydia told her.
"I feel a bit dumb asking, but what is an omega?" Kyrie questioned.
"Omegas are the lowest ranked wolves in our pack. And unfortunately, some packs treat their omegas very badly.
We like to make sure that our omegas are happy and well paid for their efforts. They are literally the glue that holds the pack together," Lydia said.
"Why on earth would some packs mistreat them? That is so very sad," Kyrie asked.
"Their wolves are not as strong as other pack members. So it's really bullying behavior to pick on someone weaker than themselves. Although we require training 3 days a week for the omegas here, so that they are at the very least able to defend themselves. But we also have a few that have trained very hard and moved up in rank to warriors. We absolutely give them jobs in the areas where they want to work. It's all very much up to them what they want to do; they are also allowed to attend college if that's their desire, just like any other pack member would be allowed to, and so, as a result, they enjoy their lives here with us. One of your duties as Luna will be to oversee the omegas but Mrs. Reid, our head omega, will assist you with that as well," Lydia said.
They walked into a huge room on the first floor at this time and Kyrie saw a tall willowy lady with light brown hair and soft green eyes was adjusting a rack filled with formal dresses in every color imaginable.
"Well dear, do you have any idea what color you would like to wear tomorrow?" Lydia asked her.
"I usually prefer jewel tones over pastels," Kyrie replied, a bit overwhelmed with all the choices in front of her.
Lydia walked over to the rack and grabbed a few dresses in several different shades of blue, green, and even a red one, as she looked back and forth between Kyrie and the dresses.
"Let's start with these. Go through the door to the right and start trying them on. Then we can pick the one that's best suited to you," Lydia told her while handing her an armload of dresses.
Chase
"I'm so nervous about this royal visit tomorrow," Chase told his father as they sat in his office going over details for the impending visit.
"It's only natural that you feel that way, Chase," his father told him, "After all, if our suspicions are correct, these are your future in-laws."
"Royal in-laws, that sounds terrifying," Chase said.
"Well, the moon goddess selects our mates for us for a very good reason. They are usually exactly what we needed, even if we don't realize what we needed," Charles told him simply.
"Kyrie is perfect. She is everything I could have ever wanted in a mate and Luna," Chase replied.
"You would be shocked at the wolves who think they know better than the moon goddess. They reject their mate in order to a chosen mate for more money or power, but in the process lose any chance of the moon goddess's blessing or a second chance mate," Charles told him.
"It's a well known fact that all shifters are stronger with their fated mate, even if that mate is a human or omega," Chase said.
"There are still those who throw away their blessing from the goddess," Charles replied with a shrug.
They were soon interrupted by a knock on the door of his office.
"Come in," Chase called.
Mrs. Reid walked in and bared her neck, "Alphas," she greeted them.
"Mrs. Reid, you know that you don't have to bare your neck for us every time you see us," Chase told the older woman gently. And please just call me Chase."
"Well Mr. Chase, I just need you to sign off on this approval for the special food delivery arriving today so we can prepare the banquet. And the omegas in housekeeping have prepared two guest suites on the Alpha floor for our guests. I also need to know if you would like them to have an elevator key card for their stay," Mrs. Reid replied.
"No problem, Mrs. Reid, I will get that signed right now. And yes, please do program four key cards for our guests," Chase said.
"Congratulations, sir, on finding your mate and Luna," she told him politely, "And I will see to the programming of their key cards."
She walked out the door and shut it quietly behind her. Chase turned back to his dad.
"Hopefully, mom starts Kyrie's Luna training soon, so she can help me with all this stuff. I know mom helps as much as she can but I really need my Luna," Chase said.
"Your mother is absolutely thrilled with Kyrie, and likely as soon as this visit with your new in-laws is over, she will begin her Luna training. Maybe we can finally take a vacation," Charles chuckled, "But I have something for you, and it will probably make your in-laws like you better."
Charles reached in his pocket and pulled out a small box, "This belonged to your great-grandmother on your mother's side and it's part of your inheritance since your mother wears my mothers ring," Charles told him.
When Chase opened the box an antique wedding set with a bright diamond as the center piece with three emeralds on either side and a wedding band with alternating diamonds and emeralds around it sat there. It was beautiful and perfect for his lovely mate. He stuck it in his pocket and planned to present it to her at the banquet tomorrow.
