Chapter-19

"Where have you been? I missed you so much." Everything was archaic. So idyllic yet cold. Beside a big green tree, a lady was sitting on a swing crooning randomly. She looked pure, serene, and happy to be there. Her low soft voice made the atmosphere gentle and calm. She was smiling with gentleness pouring from her green orbs. "Angel, smile, be happy, look. I'll always be there with you if you ever feel alone, just call me. I'll be there. You have got to fulfill a lot of dreams which I couldn't. Aren't you my little angel?" She was fading into white. "Don't leave me." "Please take me with you." "I miss you". "Come back, I won't ever ask you anything...please" " I'll be good...I...mom." N..no...no mom bring me with you ...I can't bear it anymore...Noooooo"Adhira woke up startled. Sweating profusely, she winced and tried to sit up but failed miserably. "Aah! " She cried in pain due to soreness in her body. Head to toe covered with bruises, out of which some were purplish or back and blue, and some were still raw and red. She looked at her hand above her head tied with a rope to the bedpost. Her wrists were bleeding because of her struggle to free her wrist. She squirmed in bed with discomfort. Fresh tears flooded out of her eyes, blurring her vision. She sobbed uncontrollably because of being helpless, alone, in pain, and mostly on her destiny. As long as she remembers, she was happy with how she was before singing in secret and living with her papa and aunt. In her memory, she never caused anyone harm, not even a fly. Then why, God, why am I suffering? The more she struggled and failed at freeing her hands and sitting up, the more she sobbed. She could hear the heavy thud of shoes approaching near her and with a click, the door slammed open. She should have felt relieved to see someone there to free her from this awful place. But she didn't feel relaxed, rather anxious and frightened. Because no sane living thing will feel happy to see the one who inflicted the pain and fear. There stood her tormentor smirking devilishly, his hands tucked in his pockets. Clad in a crisp white button-down shirt and black slacks. The first three buttons were undone to manifest his well-toned chest. Sleeves rolled up to elbows revealing biceps ready to burst out of the fine fabric of his shirt. He screamed power, dominance, and cold. His bottomless black eyes never revealed anything but coldness. Adhira blanched at the sight of him. She recoiled her legs to her chest, probably in fear or to cover herself up, but her tied hands never helped her to ease any fear or probably failed her in giving a sense of security. And her lying there helplessly without any thread on her form, perhaps made her blood run cold. She looked pale, disheveled, and broken. "As much as I like you in this state, but what's the fun in that? Huh!" He spoke sluggishly, closing up on her step by step. Seeing him coming closer brought her out in cold sweat. She moved her head side by side, indicating to him to not come any closer. "N...No... No". She saw him raise his hands and turned her face to the side, anticipating the hit. But it never came. She felt her left hand being freed from the rope. So he came to untie me and maybe he will let me go then. He took my dignity, maybe that was what he wanted. Mixed emotions flashed through her green orbs. She was very naive to think that this was the end. He rounded the bed and then did the same with another hand also. She rubbed her wrists, which were now bleeding slightly. She was scared of him. She thought, why had he untied her? Now, what would he do with her? And there was a reason she felt like that and that reason was Reyansh himself. She wasn't wrong either, because what he had in store for her was going to be worse from now on. She herself signed up for this. She felt bitter. Trusting her own people had always left her in misery and this one seemed endless. But have we not always trusted the one related to us, close to us? We don't go trusting strangers and random people. We had always and we will always. Because that is how trust goes. She draped the sheet on her naked self. Fresh tears burned her eyes. She hoped to see someone who would pull her out of this living nightmare. She hoped to see a ray of hope. But by this, she should have known better than that. There is no one going to be for her, to save her and to take her away from him. The Devil. There is no turning back now. But whom to she would go back? Was there anyone waiting for her, crying for her, missing her,? Was there anyone? No one. Her own father did this to her. What more could she do? He sold her for some money. Are relations so frangible? For one second she thought that the man whom she thought of as her brother, whom she saved by almost giving her life would come and save her just like he promised that he would never let any harm come to her. Are promises just words spoken out involuntarily or on the spur of the moment? . . . . Hey!! Do share your thoughts in comments.
