Amir wasn't a fast driver, and that was what frustrated Daven the most.
"You know what, let me drive. We will die if you keep driving like that."
Amir stopped the car and switched seats. The other two cars were a bit far behind, which gave them more time. But Daven didn't drive immediately. Instead, he waited for them to get closer and closer.
Feeling no movement from the car, Amir snapped at Daven. "Drive, you motherf**ker! What are you waiting for?"
"Just sit back and enjoy the ride." He checked the rearview mirror and gave off an evil smile.
When the two cars slowed down behind them, Daven abruptly stepped on the accelerator, the car engine roaring as they sped off. The two cars behind them increased their speed, chasing after them while cursing.
The road they were on was quite busy, with cars all over, which made them drive cautiously. But Daven was like a mad driver, switching lanes, overtaking cars and turning at every corner, which made it difficult for the two cars to catch them. Amir, who was afraid at first, started to get thrilled, although he knew that if something went wrong, they were dead.
"F*ck! Wooh!"
Daven drove out of the streets and went onto the freeway. The two cars still didn't give up. Behind them, they noticed a freeway patrol car approaching at high speed.
"Great, double the fun." Daven smirked, feeling so alive doing this.
'No wonder so many people do crime. I never knew it was this hella fun!'
Now this was where the action began. Now that they were on the freeway and there weren't many cars around, the cars behind them found an opportunity to step on their accelerators. Luckily for Daven and Amir, their car was a sports car, which had much more speed than a normal one.
Amir rolled down his window and stuck out his middle finger at them, laughing. "Haha!"
The cars behind them got angry and gritted their teeth.
"I swear I will beat these dogs to death once we catch them! F*ck! They think they're gonna get away, huh?" one man in the front passenger seat cursed.
The freeway patrol cop didn't know which one to chase for speeding, so he called another two cars for help. Now it was madness on the road, more like a dog chasing cats while the cats were chasing a mouse. It had even gotten into the news headlines.
Daven didn't know where he was going and kept driving forward. Far ahead, they saw two more patrol cars waiting for them.
"F*ck!" Amir cursed. "Make a U turn there!"
Not far ahead, there was an open way to get into the opposite direction. But Daven was thinking of something different. He stopped, turned the car around and drove towards them.
"WHAT THE F*CK IS HE DOING!"
The two men in the first car gasped in shock when they saw Daven driving towards them in the same lane at great speed. The two traffic cars that were waiting ahead cursed and tried to follow him, but stopped.
"Now that is what you call madness over there!"
"I bet this guy just found out that his ancestors are one of the Almighty's descendants."
"Haha, good one. Let's go."
"Dude! Chill out, I still love my life!"
Although Amir had experienced these kinds of situations many times in the past, he had never seen anyone drive as crazily as Daven. He was the maddest driver!
The car in front of them dodged them by going into the other lane. Seeing a car coming towards him, the traffic cop immediately left his lane and went into the other one.
"Goddamn it! What kind of drugs did this person eat?"
Daven laughed while looking back at the rearview mirror. A few more cars kept dodging and cursing at him.
"Wtf is this guy doing!"
"F*ck you, boy!"
"Man, how the hell are you driving!"
Amir and Daven both laughed when they saw the faces they made. Up ahead, they went back into the city after they lost them.
"What a ride! Hahaha! Did you see that guy's reaction with the red cap? His soul left his body for a second."
This was the first time Amir had laughed in years, and it felt good.
"Haha! And that one who screamed like a woman? Gosh, he was on point there."
Daven slowed down and found a place to park in the parking lot of a mall.
"Tell me about it. It reminded me of my mother when my brother and I used to scare her."
Daven's expression turned into one of grief as Amir's words triggered some bad memories.
Feeling the mood change, Amir looked at Daven's sad face and slowly stopped laughing.
"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
He tried to fake a smile but couldn't.
"It's just that I never got the chance to spend more time with my mother."
Amir carefully studied his expression and asked in a concerned voice, "What happened?"
Daven had never talked to anyone about this and had never planned to, but with Amir, he felt comfortable enough to share.
"She was killed during a war while trying to protect me and my brother when I was six years old..."
His voice had no particular emotion when he said that.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, man."
Amir was stunned. Never in his life had he thought that Daven would have gone through such a thing.
Daven chuckled lightly to suppress the pain in his heart. He would never forget that day, and memories of it still haunted him till now. There was a brief moment of silence before Daven asked, "Enough about me. What's going on with you? You seemed to be in a bad mood yesterday."
Amir didn't plan on opening up to anyone, but after what happened during the chase, he found Daven to be someone who wasn't bad to talk to.
"My younger brother was accused of murdering Daven Quinn."
Daven Quinn?
He's Daven Quinn.
Daven's heart stopped when he heard his name mentioned, and he became serious as he listened.
"Which he never did. He was punished severely by the family before they took him to jail. The police decided to investigate further as nothing was adding up, but they still kept him in jail. Our mother started to get sick when she heard about it. Now, recently, the police have found new information, and it has been taken to court. The case will be on Friday next week. And I don't have enough money to afford a great attorney who can help him prove that he is innocent."
Daven had never thought his cousin could be this cruel.
"Who accused him?"
"The underground mafia's son."
A mixture of hatred and anger could be heard in his voice.
"Jordan?"
"Yeah, that son of a b*tch!" Amir snorted angrily.
Daven fell into deep thought. If he helped Amir get his brother out of jail, then they might help him take down his cousin.
"How did he know that?"
Amir sighed and looked out the window before responding.
"We used to work together as a team to steal money from people and various companies. My brother, him and me. I was good at hacking, my brother was good at coming up with various ideas, and he knew where to transfer the money once it had been stolen without any suspicion. We got separated when we had a disagreement. He wanted to start doing a d**g business, which my brother and I refused to work with him..."
