When the doctor arrived along with Frita, the ward was already in chaos.
"Let me go!" the man said.
"Ahh! He's a mad man!" That was the only thing that came into Frita's mind.
The doctor just ignored her and went straight to the man to check on him.
"Doctor, he is demanding to leave!" Tara quickly said when she saw the doctor.
"Mr Heath, calm down. You are in the hospital right now," the doctor said, gesturing for him to sit down.
Hearing the surname 'Heath', Daven felt somewhat puzzled. That was his mother's surname, and he had never used it before. He was well known as Daven 'Quinn' (he used his father's surname).
Seeing him calming down, the doctor ordered Tara to call his wife and let her know that her husband was awake.
"Oh, and tell her to hurry up."
"Yes, doctor." Tara quickly left the ward room and came back a second later to take Frita.
"I know you will cause trouble once I leave you there," she whispered to Frita when they left the ward.
"Saves me from working," Frita replied carelessly.
Inside the ward, the doctor took her stethoscope from around her neck to check Daven's heart rate.
Daven quickly dodged it and said, "Doctor, I'm fine, but I will be super fine if I could just go home."
"Don't worry, your wife is on her way."
Daven didn't hear what the doctor had just said, nor did he pay attention to her words.
"Doctor, I really have to go back home to my..."
The doctor interrupted him before he could finish what he wanted to say.
"Aww, how sweet. You missed your wife, right? That's why you want to go back home."
Daven was going to say, "To my grandfather," before he was interrupted. Now, he almost choked when he heard the doctor mentioning him having a wife.
Cough! Cough!
Daven coughed awkwardly before saying, "Doctor, stop playing with me. Everyone knows that I don't have a wife."
The doctor thought that Daven was joking around. She looked at Daven before pretending to be surprised.
"What? Are you going to deny your wife?"
"Doctor, I'm serious now. Let's not joke around. Really, I have to go back home to my grandparents' house. I have something really important to discuss with my grandfather."
Daven's expression turned serious, showing that he wasn't playing anymore.
The doctor examined him with a playful expression.
"What could be more important than seeing your wife first?"
"I already told you, doctor, I don't have a wife. Perhaps you don't know me. I'm Daven Quinn."
His expression was proud. He knew that with his status as 'Quinn', no one dared to disrespect him or provoke him.
The doctor stared at him for a while in disbelief. Seeing the doctor not saying anything, he got up proudly with a smirk on his face.
"Now that you know me, I'm sure you know what's good for you."
Still, the doctor didn't reply and stared at him in amazement. The next moment, Daven heard the doctor trying to hold back her laughter.
"I will call the nurse to give you some meds. I'm sure you had a long, crazy dream when you were in a coma. Now sit down. I'm not done yet," the doctor ordered in a steady voice.
"You think I'm lying? Can't you see that I look familiar to you? I'm sure you have seen me in many magazines or TV shows."
The doctor just opened a drawer and took out a small, kitten-like mirror. She gave it to Daven without saying a word.
Seeing the doctor handing him the mirror, he felt like he was about to explode.
'Great! The doctor doesn't really believe me. What a luck.'
He took the mirror and snorted at the doctor before looking at his face in it. He was really curious to find out if the two men had really beaten him up so badly that no one could recognise him.
When he saw his reflection in the mirror, he almost dropped it. He didn't move nor say anything. He just stared at himself, dumbfounded.
Seeing him not saying anything, the doctor sighed.
"It's good to dream, but it's not good to go that far."
The doctor snatched the mirror from his hands.
Immediately, he spoke.
"What the hell happened to my face!!? How on earth did those guys beat me till they gave me beards?"
"Alright, I don't know what kind of dream you had last night, but it was sure hectic. Now sit down and let me continue examining you."
Daven obediently sat down with a blank mind. He had so many questions right now that he would like to ask in just one breath.
After a few minutes, the doctor was done.
"Everything seems to be fine, unlike last time. It seems like you're good to go this time."
She put her stethoscope back around her neck and sat down.
"Doctor..." His voice was soft, unlike a moment ago. He was still trying to process everything.
"So do I really have a wife?" His voice was somewhat doubtful.
"Yes." She was getting confused. "Her name is Brittney. Don't you remember her?"
"H... how long have we been married?" His voice was starting to tremble as he thought about his life.
"Uhm..." The doctor was uncertain of what to say. "I don't know, maybe three years, I think."
"Doctor, I'm married?" Daven still couldn't believe it.
"Yes."
"How? Why? And when!?"
"Well, how am I supposed to know that? I'm a doctor, not a some sort of 'know-it-all genius'."
The doctor was getting really suspicious that the nurse had given him the wrong medication.
Daven was so confused right now. How could he be married when he had just been shot by his cousin the night before, or maybe a day or so ago? And did he really survive after getting shot in the head? Or could it be that he had reincarnated into another world?
What the hell was going on!?
