Chapter 6: Stay

1017 Words
Just as he was about to have another thought, the door behind him, which wasn't entirely closed, was suddenly pushed open. When he turned around, a woman was already in front of him, smiling with sadness in her eyes when she saw what he had in his hands. This woman looked a bit similar to Brittney, but she was far more beautiful. Daven slowly looked her up and down with a thumping heart. The woman wore a pair of skinny jeans that lined her curvy body perfectly, with a plain black T-shirt that she had tied around her waist in a stylish way. She also had two curls hanging down the sides of her face. Daven frowned in puzzlement. Who was this woman now? Is there also someone living here with Brittney? "The wedding was planned to happen in two years." She slowly took their marriage certificate from his hands and looked at it sadly. When the voice was heard, Daven immediately recognised the owner. But how can it be? "Huh?" Daven's mind was swimming in confusion. "Britannia... right?" Great! Now he doesn't even remember my own name. Brittney looked straight into his brown eyes without saying anything. A moment later, she said, "It's Brittney..." She paused and put down the certificate before trying to hold his hands. When she did this, Daven quickly shoved his hands away with a frown. "I don't think it will be a good idea for us to be holding hands. We are not together anymore, so..." His cold words were like knives stabbing into her chest. Fast as lightning, her tears began welling up, but she held them back. "What do you mean we are not together anymore? We never divorced or anything like that." "Well, then I don't think it's a good idea for us to be together, then." Even if Brittney was the most beautiful woman in the world, he still wouldn't consider marrying her or another woman, as women weren't his priority right now. Brittney couldn't handle what was happening. Everything felt like a nightmare that wasn't going to end anytime soon. "What happened to you? You used to love me and care about me, saying that you would never leave me..." "And you believed that?" Daven didn't know how much his words were hurting Brittney. He just considered them casual. "Word of advice, never believe anything that comes out of a guy's mouth. Especially when you have something he likes that almost any girl has." With that, he looked down at her, hinting at what it was. Brittney didn't pay attention to his last sentence and looked at him with wet cheeks. "I don't believe that you don't love me anymore... You just need time to get your memory back, and then you'll see." Although her cheeks were wet with tears, she still showed some confidence as she said it. Seeing her confidence, Daven chuckled in his heart. They're always stubborn. "And what if I don't remember anything about us?" Brittney thought for a moment before responding. "I will still be there." "What if I fall in love with someone else?" "Th... then I'll let you go." As she finished her sentence, a large amount of tears flowed down as she thought about what he had said. But I don't want to lose you! From the look on her face, Daven knew that she was just saying it. She would probably never give him up. "Stop wasting your tears on something that isn't worth them." Daven thought he was comforting her, but he didn't know that his words were like knives stabbing into her heart without mercy. Brittney could only turn her head away and cry silently. How long would she have to wait for Daven to get his memory back? What would she have to do in the meantime? Those were the questions in her mind right now. How could this ever happen to her after everything she had been through? "Where... will you go now?" she voiced out, still sobbing. Daven really didn't know where he should go. His original plan at the hospital, before he found out about everything, had been to go back to his family, but now it seemed like he couldn't. Going there now would only be asking for death. All he could do now was hide away from the people who would recognise him as Daven Quinn. "Err... To be exact, I don't know." Immediately, her eyes beamed with joy when she heard his response. That was the response she had been hoping for. "Well, you can stay here for a while..." she continued. "After all, it is still your house too." Daven didn't really care about what her plans were for them. All he wanted was a place to hide away for a while before he could put his revenge into action against his cousin. "Hey, I thought you brought me here for a bite." He rubbed his stomach childishly. Seeing how cute he looked when he did this, Brittney found him abnormal, as he had only done things that made him look cute a few times during their five-year marriage. "You can go upstairs and take a shower while I'm preparing something for you." With that being said, she rushed to the kitchen. Before he left the study room, he noticed the picture frame and glanced at it a few times before taking a closer look. It was a picture of him and Brittney holding hands with beautiful smiles on their faces. Daven tried to remember the day, but nothing popped up in his mind. He put it down with a sigh and went out of the study. When he started climbing the stairs, he froze and went back to the kitchen, where Brittney was. "Uhm... where can I take a shower?" "Just go upstairs, the first door on your left." Her voice was as warm as before, when he had met her at the hospital. He tried to figure out what had made him fall in love with her. In disappointment, he could only sigh in frustration.
