*Alpha William’s POV*
I couldn’t believe that arrogant little pr*ck! How dare he refuse me what is rightfully mine! I knew she was there, and I would get to her one way or another. I will not allow history to repeat itself, not this time. I will make sure we are more prepared and I cannot..no, I will not fail again.
Just as I made it back to my pack lands with the guards who accompanied me, I mindlinked my Beta immediately.
“Axel! Meet me in my office immediately and bring her with you!”
“Yes Alpha,” came his response.
I reached the pack house and stormed through the doors, almost causing them to fly off their hinges. This caused the omegas who were busy with their tasks to startle. All eyes turned towards me and that was their first mistake.
“You DARE to look me in the face, you lowlife scum!” I roared. Each head snapped forwards, bowing down, and all of their eyes were on the floor in front of them.
“Get back to your tasks IMMEDIATELY! If any of you ever so much as look my way again without permission, I will have you SLAUGHTERED in front of the entire pack! UNDERSTAND!?”
“Yes, Alpha,” came the meek replies, before they all scurried out of my sight in various directions. As soon as everyone had dispersed, I marched up to my office on the first floor. Anger and impatience was consuming me and everyone and everything was only adding fuel to the fire.
I entered my office to see my beta, Axel already stood to the side, waiting for me with the one woman I needed to see.
“Both of you, sit!” I ordered them, pointing to the two chairs in front of my desk.
Axel went over to the chair to take a seat, but the woman merely rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest stubbornly.
“I’m fine where I am. You’re not my Alpha, so don’t you try and order me around. You need my help, not the other way round, so don’t push it William,” she scowled at me, emphasising my name without my Alpha title.
I saw red. I flew over towards her and grabbed her by the throat, slamming her back into the wall with such force, it cracked.
“Now you listen here, witch. You don’t really believe that you don’t need me either, do you? If that is the case, then you are more stupid than I thought!” I growled. My wolf, Ozul, was trying to come to the surface, my eyes flashing between black and grey.
“Just let me rip her throat out already! I’ve had enough of this vermin and her blatant disrespect for us!” He growled menacingly in my mind.
“Now is not the time Ozul. We still need her and I’ve told you, I will not fail this time,” I told him.
“As you wish, William. She is not safe forever though. I will silence her once and for all.” He calmed himself down and retreated to the back of my mind.
Focusing my attention back on the b*tch in front of me, I narrowed my eyes at her and smirked.
“Get your filthy hands off of me, wolf! The only reason I’m here is because you haven’t given me much choice, have you? Now let me f*cking go before you really regret the choice of bringing me in to help you,” she chuckled darkly.
Growling at her, I threw her to the ground and stepped away to take a seat at my desk. She rose from the floor with a scowl and brushed herself off, flipping her long black hair back over her shoulder. She returned to her standing position, leant against the wall and crossed her arms.
“Stubborn witch!” Ozul growled.
“Now, you told me you were sure Avianna was at the Golden River pack, but the new Alpha boy - who you forgot to mention by the way - was adamant he had no idea what or who I was talking about!” I shouted at the witch.
She stared at me for a couple of seconds and then burst into laughter.
“Who’s the stupid one now, William!” She cackled back to me. “You really believe he didn’t know who you were talking about? You utter moron. Of course he knew! She is there, I already told you! I sensed the magic as soon as it left her body. Any witch could with her being as powerful as she is, although the power I sensed was only minuscule compared to what she will really be capable of. Goddess knows how many others will be looking for her when they find out she’s in the state!”
“Nobody else will be having her! She is mine!” I growled, slamming my fists down onto the desk in front of me.
“Now, now William. One step at a time. Now it is known that you know she is here, this is going to be a bit more difficult. You should have waited like I told you to in the first place. But nooo, the little baby Alpha just couldn’t help himself,” she mocked, using an awfully patronising, high pitched voice with the latter.
“We need a plan witch,” I growled at her. “You can either help me come up with one, or go and crawl back into your hole. Better yet, I’ll kill you if you’d like? That must be more appealing than the pathetic excuse of a life you already have.”
“Tsk tsk. Be very careful William. In case you had forgotten, I am a dark witch. Unless you want me to kill you, then I suggest you watch who you’re threatening. Alpha or not, as I said before - you are not my Alpha,” she hissed.
I clenched my fists, resisting the urge to launch myself at her and rip her head from her body.
“Oh, and one more thing - would you stop calling me ‘witch’ all the time, it gets rather boring after a while…my name is Lilith.”
*Avianna’s POV*
“Mate?” What is a mate?!
“Short version, a mate is our lifelong partner, our soulmate if you will. They are the other half of us and mates are destined to be together, paired up by the Moon Goddess herself!” Aurelia declared excitedly to me.
“The Moon Goddess? Who on earth is she?!” I shot back at her quickly, still unable to tear my eyes away from Jaxon stood in front of me.
“We’ll get to that later…there are more important matters to attend to!” Aurelia winked at me.
My wolf just winked at me?! I am officially insane. I didn’t have time to ponder on it though as within a second, Jaxon was in front of me, wrapping his arms around me and…smelling me?! He wasn’t the only one happy to see me either, I thought, as I felt his hardness pressed up against my midsection. I was still a virgin, but I wasn’t naive. Judging by what I was feeling, his downstairs area was pretty damn large and my eyes widened in surprise.
Jaxon brought his face so close to mine I thought he was going to kiss me. I had the overwhelming urge for him to do so. My skin was tingling everywhere he was touching and I didn’t want the feeling to stop.
“Mate,” he whispered to me softly, staring into my eyes.
“Avianna, my Luna, my everything, my mate.” The words he spoke to me felt so real and filled with affection, it urged me to do something I didn’t really know how to do. I grabbed the back of his head and crashed my lips onto his, lost in the moment, in the feelings and sensations I was having. I didn’t even care at this point if I didn’t know what I was doing, it felt so good and so right that a moan left my throat.
Jaxon let out a growl that vibrated his chest, travelling downwards and straight to my core. He slid his hands up to my chest and brushed my already sensitive n*****s, causing them to harden even further. I gasp and his tongue forced into my mouth with passion. Oh. My. God. This was the most turned on I had ever been in my life and we were only kissing.
Out of nowhere, a painfully crippling sensation ran through my body, catching me off guard and causing me to jump back instantly in shock. I see pain and worry flash through Jaxon’s eyes, but I have no opportunity to explain before the pain rips through me once more. I drop to my hands and knees trying to breathe through it, but it only intensifies. I barely even register Jaxon kneeling at my side, stroking my hair back from my face before I let out a gut wrenching scream. I feel as though my body is being ripped apart and I am on fire. My skin is burning and it feels as if my bones are breaking. The pain is becoming unbearable and I feel as though I am going to pass out at any moment. I hear Aurelia’s voice faintly in my mind.
“Seems as though I am making an appearance sooner than I thought…”
*Beta Mikey’s POV*
I was tossing and turning trying to relax and get some sleep. I had this niggling feeling that something was wrong, my gut was telling me so, but what? I sat up and swung my legs off the edge of the bed. Deciding to give up on sleep, I got dressed in some shorts and a t-shirt and decided to go for a run. I pulled on some trainers and made my way to my bedroom door. As soon as my hand gripped the door handle, Jaxon’s voice came through the link.
“Mikey! Grab Xavier, Morgan and my parents and meet me in the woods at the back of the packhouse, now!”
“Jaxon, what’s going on?! Is it rogues?!” I rushed back to him, the adrenaline starting to course through my body. It had been a while since I’d had a good fight.
“No, it’s Avianna! She’s shifting now! Hurry up!”
Shit! I closed the link, rushed to Xavier’s door and started to bang on it.
“Xav! Xav wake up! It’s Avianna!” I shouted. Seconds later the door flew open and revealed him already fully dressed and ready to go. “Get Morgan, I’ll grab Roman and Sienna!” I shouted to him as I ran with speed down the stairs to the floor below.
I rushed to the former Alpha and Luna’s door and started to bang on theirs as well. The door swung open to reveal Roman standing there, looking half asleep and severely pissed.
“What is the meaning of this, Mikey?! Do you know what time it is!” He shouted at me. I internally cringed at being scolded by the man who was like my second father.
“I’m so sorry Uncle Roman. It’s Avianna. Jax said she’s shifting and to meet him out back in the woods - he wants all of us there,” I rushed out.
His eyes widened in response and he slammed the door shut. Minutes later, him and Sienna emerged, fully dressed with concern written all over their faces. Roman looked towards me, “let’s go,” he demanded.
Xavier and Morgan came into view from the floor above and we all rushed down the staircase at speed and out the back door. We all ran into the opening of the forest and could hear screams further ahead. Picking up my speed, I moved as fast as I could toward the noise until I came to a clearing. Jax was there, cradling Avianna in his arms and trying to soothe her through the pain. The others all appeared behind me and stopped, taking in the scene before us.
Slowly, we all made our way over to where they were and stopped around 10 feet away.
“Jaxon, son, are you sure she is shifting? The full moon isn’t for another 2 weeks, this shouldn’t be happening now,” Roman asked him quietly.
Jax lifted his head and looked toward us all. He nodded his head and confirmed our worry.
“I’m sure, father. Hunter communicated with Avi’s wolf, Aurelia, and she also confirmed it was happening now. Something to do with a binding spell being broken, her powers and me.” His eyes were full of worry and concern for his mate and we all knew why. It was dangerous for a wolf to shift for the first time if not on a full moon. It gave us the power and strength to make the transformation with less pain and almost never any complications.
With Avianna only being half werewolf, this sort of thing was practically unheard of. She was an anomaly though. Wolves shifted on the first full moon after their 18th birthday, but with Avianna having passed that age with something suppressing the other parts of her, goddess knows what is going on.
I glanced over to the rest of the group, everyone staring at Avianna with concern etching their faces. The cracking sounds of bones rearranging themselves distracted me from my thoughts. I snapped my head back to Avianna, her screams deafening.
Right before our eyes, her body started to change, fur sprouted from her skin and her form began to grow immensely. Her screams turned to growls and everyone around me gasped. Well, f*ck me.
*Alpha Jaxon’s POV*
I mindlinked Mikey and instructed him to bring Xavier, Morgan and my parents to the woods out back. Hearing the sounds of bones beginning to crack, it was obvious now what was happening. Avianna was shifting.
“Calm down Jax, I told you before - she is stronger than you think. I can feel her wolf Aurelia and she is powerful. She will get her through this and so will we,” Hunter said to me reassuringly.
I scooped her up into my arms and moved as fast as I could down the stairs and out the back door to the woods. I tried to move as quickly as possible without jolting Avi around too much. Goddess knows she’s in enough discomfort already.
“It’s alright Avi, I’m here baby, I’m here,” I said aloud.
Her face was contorted in pain and her body was tense and stiff, no doubt she was trying her best to handle the excruciating pain she was currently experiencing.
“What-what’s happening to me Jaxon?!” She whispered, between rapid breaths.
“You’re shifting my love, transforming into your wolf. It is going to be painful, this is just the start. But you can do it, I know you can. I’m right here with you and the others are on their way. Don’t worry, it will all be over soon,” I tried to reassure her as best I could, kissing her lightly on the forehead.
We reached a clearing in the woods and I set her down on the floor, still holding onto her to try and give her some form of comfort through the pain.
“Why is she shifting now Hunter?! It’s too soon, it’s not a full moon for two more weeks!” I say frantically to my wolf. I tried to maintain a calm exterior so to not panic Avianna even more.
“I’ve managed to reach her wolf, Aurelia. She told me it’s because her binding spell has been broken, but she doesn’t think it was supposed to happen yet. It was a powerful spell that should have only been able to be undone by the individual who cast it. Also, she suspects that her powers and meeting her mate so soon have triggered an early shift, but she can’t be sure,” he replies, concern lacing his voice. “She’s not like other wolves Jax, Aurelia is certain she will be just fine.”
Hearing that her wolf believes she will be okay, calms my racing heart just a little.
In the next moment, Avianna let’s put an ear piercing scream and starts to shake violently. I continue talking to her reassuringly, unsure if she is registering what I’m saying, but carry on nonetheless. I hear the others approaching from the trees, Mikey emerges first with a worried expression on his face and the rest of the group close behind him. They all approach but don’t come too close. My father questions if I’m sure she is shifting and I confirm she is and tell them what Hunter has already told me.
The echoing sounds of bones breaking and rearranging snap my attention back to Avi. I loosen my hold on her and her screams are so loud and full of pain, I feel myself tearing up at the sound. I pray to the Moon Goddess that she will make it through this shift unharmed.
Her body begins to distort and grow before us. Fur sprouts from her skin and her screams turn to growls. I hear everyone gasp and my eyes are wide in shock and awe. Wow.
The most beautiful wolf I have ever seen is towering before us. Glistening white fur covers her whole body and she is absolutely humongous. I would say she is easily the size of Hunter, but that would make sense as she is of Alpha blood too. Aurelia turns her head to look at me and as she does, a golden shimmer runs over her fur, like when a diamond catches the light.
When our eyes meet, hers begin to glow gold and she lifts her massive head, letting out a tremendous howl towards the sky.
“It can’t be…” I hear my father whisper. I turn my head to look at him questioningly. He is staring at Aurelia with absolute astonishment.
“What is it dear?” My mother asks him, grabbing his arm to avert his attention. He glances at her, eyes wide and then turns his gaze to me.
“Son, this is believed to just be a legend. Avianna is in fact, The ‘Oralei’…”
