*Alpha Jaxon’s POV*
After Avianna had come round, she came out with the last thing I ever thought would leave her lips.
“Who are Wyatt and Arabella?”
How did she know their names? I had one of my contacts look into her information back in England and she was adopted by a couple when she was two years old in London. I didn’t believe that she would have any memory of her birth parents being so young when everything happened.
Taking this into consideration, this was not a conversation I expected to have with her so soon. I could feel her eyes searching mine for a reaction to her question, but I was honestly speechless and I didn’t know how to respond. She deserved the truth but I didn’t know if she was ready for it or not. A lot of things had already happened in the last 24 hours and I didn’t want to overwhelm her even more than necessary. But. It wasn’t my place to keep this information from her. She had a right to know who she really was, where she really came from.
“Are you sure you want to know everything now? We could have a proper conversation about everything, after you’ve had a good nights sleep?” I ask her, cautiously.
Her face turns into an expression of impatience and confusion. She breaths sharply from her nose and crosses her arms over her chest.
“There’s no time like the present,” she whispers. I would have barely heard her if it weren’t for my werewolf hearing. I cast a quick glance over at Morgan and she gives me a slight nod, gesturing for me to go ahead and tell her what she would like to know.
I breathe a deep sigh and move to take a seat on the other side of the bed. I look at Avianna’s face, taking in all of her features, and my she is so beautiful. Her deep chocolate eyes are staring at me expectantly, waiting for me to continue and answer her question.
“Okay,” I start, thinking the best way to do this would be to just come right out with it. “In our world, we have what you call werewolf packs. Groups of werewolves that are part of these packs have an Alpha and a Luna. These are the leaders of each individual one.” I pause and wait for Avianna to let me know she is keeping up with my explanation.
“So, there are werewolf packs with leaders called an Alpha and a Luna - so are they like the King and Queen?” Avianna asks, a look of interest on her face.
“Erm, yes kind of. Except they don’t quite have the range of power and leadership that a King and Queen have. They are only the leaders of their own pack and they still have to answer to any higher powers,” I explain.
“Higher powers?” Avianna looks at me in surprise. “You’re saying that there are other, erm, supernatural beings? Not just werewolves?”
“Werewolves are one of many supernaturals. Everything you might have read in a book or seen on the television isn’t just fiction. Vampires, fairies, witches, demons and other beings do in fact exist. There are many other species too, like werebears, werefoxes, trolls, pixies, you name it. Gods and Goddesses also exist,” I inform her.
I search her face for a reaction to what I’m telling her and it holds a mixture of emotions. Shock, surprise, curiosity and…is that fear? She looks away from me and closes her eyes, taking deep breaths as if trying to calm herself down. I can hear her heart beating erratically in her chest, letting me know that this is a lot for her to take in. But I need to tell her as much as I can, give her the bigger picture so she understands everything and believes me when I reveal who she really is.
After a few minutes, Avianna finds my gaze again.
“Wow…and to think a few days ago I was just a normal woman, living in London and my biggest worry was what I was going to have for dinner,” she laughs softly. “I can’t believe what I’m hearing, I never expected any of this in a million years.”
“To be honest, you’re a lot calmer than I expected you would be,” Morgan says to her, reaching for her hand and giving it a light squeeze.
“Are you sure you’d like me to continue?” I ask her, “this isn’t everything I need to tell you.”
She sighs deeply and nods her head. “Yes, just tell me everything and I can process it all later.”
“Ok. As I was saying, all of these beings exist in the supernatural world. We just blend in or some species stay hidden from the human world altogether to avoid being exposed.” I continue to explain to her how this is done and the precautions that each species takes for this to happen. I tell her about the Moon Goddess being the mother of all werewolves and other species having their own God or Goddess. She was quite literally speechless and asked me to give her a bit of time to process the information overload I had just thrown at her.
We sat quietly for around ten minutes and uncertainty filled the air around us. Morgan and I were mindlinking sparingly, so to avoid any more questions from Avianna until we had gotten through this part first. There is so much more she needed to know and find out about werewolves but I can’t tell her too much from the off. I was afraid it would scare her off and she wouldn’t understand everything. Eventually, Avianna looked at me and said “Ok, you can continue, but I don’t think I can handle knowing much more now,” she stops talking and rubs her temples with the tips of her fingers. “Just tell me what I absolutely need to know, as obviously there is a reason for all of this -“ she pauses and gestures her hands around the room, “-happening to me.”
I study her face. She looks worn out and like she needs some rest. I decide to just cut straight to the point.
“Coming back to your initial question - Wyatt and Arabella were the Alpha and Luna of the Golden Moon Pack, one of the most powerful packs in our history. Albeit, they did have some problems in their time of leadership, and one huge problem towards the end.” I stop talking as I didn’t want to give too much away on that subject, not yet. I did have one question for her though before I continued.
“Can I just ask, how did you know to ask me who they were and what their names were?”
She looks at me and uncertainty flashes across her eyes. “Erm, I-I had a dream when I blacked out. But it didn’t feel like a dream, it felt like I was physically there, watching what was going on. It was just flashes of lots of people and a few werewolves in an open space, talking about an Alpha Wyatt and Luna Arabella. Then, it was like I was in a hospital room, a bit like this one,” she looks around at our surroundings. “The couple were holding a newborn baby and discussing a name, but I couldn’t hear everything, it was mostly like white noise. Then I heard ‘Alpha’ and ‘Luna’ being said again when the man went to the hospital room door. I figured these must be the people that everyone was talking about outside,” she glances at me nervously, as if worried that I would think she was making this up.
It was strange that she would dream something like that, well, it didn’t sound much like a dream to me, more like a flashback of the past. Something might have triggered her to see this in her unconscious state. I’ll have to follow up with the witch, Violet, to see if she can give me any information on this development.
“First of all, I believe you. We both do,” I said, pointedly looking at Morgan.
“Yes! Yes, of course we believe you Avi,” Morgan smiled at her. Avianna released the breath she must have been holding and half-smiled in return.
“I haven’t told you the most important thing yet,” I said carefully. Her head snapped to look at me, her eyes full of anticipation.
“The baby in your “dream”, with Wyatt and Arabella…that baby was you.”
*Avianna’s POV*
All of the information Jaxon had told me was swimming around in my mind. It was almost unbelievable, but he had no reason to lie to me or make all of this stuff up - what would that achieve? I also had a gut feeling that I could trust him…and there was something more, yet I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I was relieved that both Jaxon and Morgan believed me about my dream - though I wasn’t so sure if it really was a dream. It felt so real.
As my thoughts were plagued with all of these revelations, I barely registered Jaxon speaking again. It took me a few seconds to realise he had said that he hadn’t told me the most important part. I snapped my head in his direction, my eyes wide with surprise. There was more?!
“The baby in your “dream”, with Wyatt and Arabella…” Why was the baby important in all of this?! Their baby was the least of my worries right now. “…that baby was you.”
I sat, speechless. No. I must have misheard him. There is no way that he just said the baby of those werewolves was me?! No. Absolutely not. He must be joking with me. I felt like laughing as this was absolutely absurd. I know who my parents are and they are certainly not werewolves. I studied his face for a few seconds, his expression one of absolute seriousness.
“What?! You don’t actually believe what is coming out of your mouth, do you!?” I couldn’t let myself believe it. But he seemed damn sure it was a fact. I shot my gaze towards Morgan, who was sitting there looking at me intently, also sporting a serious expression. “He’s joking, isn’t he Morgan?” I ask her impatiently. “Just tell me he’s joking and we can forget about everything he’s just told me and I can leave.”
Morgan continued looking at me and gently shook her head, giving me a sympathetic smile. “He’s not joking Avi, he’s telling you the truth. You look just like her,” she said sincerely.
I felt myself starting to get irritated. She must be in on it with Jaxon to feed me a load of bull, but why?! Maybe this is a funny game they like to play on unsuspecting victims to cause them to lose their minds. Who knows. But I do know that I won’t be a part of their sick games any longer.
“Sorry, but I don’t believe you. Whatever this game is your playing, I’m not participating. I’m going to leave now and go home, and I don’t want to see either of you ever again,” I said sternly, so they knew I was serious and not playing around.
“I’m sorry Avi, we can’t let you go home. Not now. There are dangers out there that I cannot protect you from if you leave alone,” Jaxon sighed.
“Oh, so now there are dangers and I need protecting?! I think you’ll find that I can look after my damn self, thank you! I don’t need a knight in shining armour to come to my imaginary rescue!” I shouted, the anger bubbling up inside of me. “I. Am. Leaving!” I lace each word with as much venom in my voice as I can muster. I am not playing around. I may be kind but nobody should ever mistake my kindness for weakness. I may have been mostly alone growing up with not many friends, but I am far from weak. The frustration and anger was growing within me, it felt like a balloon that was being overfilled and was about to explode at any moment.
“I’m sorry Avi, we just want to keep you safe, that’s all,” Morgan said to me softly.
“I’m sorry too Morgan. Sorry that I ever met you and landed myself in this situation. I didn’t sign up for this, I thought we were friends.” Morgan’s face fell and tears swam in her eyes, but I felt so hurt and disappointed that the only friend I had made thus far, got her kicks out of making up lies to others.
As I got up from the bed and gathered my things, Jaxon shot across to the door of the room faster than I could blink. I started towards the door and stopped in front of him, folding my arms and tapping my foot impatiently on the pristine tiled floor.
“What are you doing? Move and let me past,” I said sternly, my eyes narrowed.
“I’m sorry Avi, but I can’t let you leave. It’s not safe out there alone. Please, stay and talk about this,” he pleaded with me. I couldn’t believe this.
“There is nothing to talk about Jaxon. You’ve just wasted my time filling my head full of lies and fairytales and I don’t want to hear anymore about it. Now, again, move and let me past.”
Jaxon didn’t move and continued to just stare at me defiantly. In that moment, something snapped inside of me. “MOVE!” I screamed. I felt…something, radiate from within me and a surge shot through my body like a lightning bolt. The sounds of shattering glass and the screams of Morgan filled my ears as the word left my mouth. What the f*ck was that?!
