*Beta Mikey’s POV*
“How do you think she’ll react if he tells her?” I glance at Xavier sat across from me in the hospital waiting room, an expression of unease crossing his features.
“Honestly? I don’t think it will be a positive reaction, going off how she acted at the club when we informed her about werewolves,” he sighs.
We’d both been sat here since we arrived back at the pack, waiting for any information from Jaxon or Morgan on her condition. We hadn’t heard anything worrying so far from the room they were all in, so as far as I was concerned, everything must be going well…or nothing had been revealed as of yet.
“Yeah, well…fingers crossed for an uncomplicated outcome.” I lean back against the chair & rest my ankle on my knee, letting my head drop onto the back of the chair.
A few more minutes pass by and I start to hear raised voices coming from inside Avianna’s room. Xavier and I both straighten up, alert and preparing for whatever is coming next.
Seconds later, out of nowhere, an ear splitting scream sounds out and the glass within the door and the windows shatters and flies all around us. We both lean over and cover our heads protectively, trying to avoid any of the glass shards from piercing our skin.
“F*ck!” I raise my head to see Xavier pulling a large piece of glass from his bicep and dropping it to the floor.
“You good?” I ask him.
“Yeah man, it will be healed shortly. Don’t worry about me, let’s see what’s going on!” Xavier rushes to stand and go over to the now pane-less door.
I wrench the door open from the outside to see what the f*ck just happened. I look over at Morgan who is cowered in the corner, hands covering her ears. I turn my gaze back towards Jaxon who was behind the door, with Avianna standing in front of him, face flushed and eyes wide in shock.
“What the hell was that?!” I shout out.
Jaxon turns and pins his gaze on me, warning me silently to watch my tone.
“Sorry Jax, just heat of the moment,” I apologise quickly, lowering my head in respect.
Xavier stands next to me, eyeing Avianna curiously.
“Are you alright, Luna?” He asks her quietly.
Hearing the word ‘Luna’ seems to bring her out of her daze and she snaps her head towards him.
“I-I do-don’t know,” she stammers out.
Jaxon senses her uneasiness and attempts to step forward and comfort her. Avianna quickly moves herself back with a sharp intake of breath and away from his reach. She slowly looks around the room. Glass covers the floor, the lights are shattered and no longer working and the windows are now non-existent. Her gaze finally lands on Morgan in the corner, who is slowly rising to her feet with a look of pain on her face.
I quickly scan her body with my eyes until my sights stop on a piece of sharp glass, protruding from her midsection. Quickly, I rush over to her and assist her in standing fully and support her body with mine. I hear Avianna whisper something unintelligible and in the next moment she sinks to the floor, tears swimming in her eyes.
“Get the doctor.” Jax orders. Xavier rushes from the doorway and out of sight, following his Alpha’s instruction. Morgan is breathing heavily, her face pale and I know the glass needs to come out so she can heal quicker.
The room has fallen silent but the sound of choked sobs breaks that silence imminently.
“W-Wh-What is happening to me?” Avianna stutters out between sobs. “D-Did I do that?! What have you done to me?!”
My heart sinks at the last sentence. She thinks we’ve done something to her. It seems this isn’t going to be as easy as we thought.
*Gamma Xavier’s POV*
As I rush away from the room to find Doctor Williams, a strange feeling washes over me. It feels like hurt, combined with a slight sadness. Avianna’s question asking what had we done to her was playing over and over in my mind. As a Gamma, we have an unbreakable bond with our Luna. The constant need to ensure their safety. Not the same as a mate bond, but the urge to protect them no matter the consequences. She is yet to be my official Luna, but I am already feeling the bond begin to form on my side. The feeling of hurt must be linked to that.
I locate Doctor Williams rushing in my direction, a questioning look on his face.
“What happened Gamma? Is everything alright?”
“It’s Morgan. She has a slight injury but the Alpha sent me to get you, they’re in the Luna’s room,” I reply quickly.
Doctor Williams gives me a knowing look. He has been in this pack for years, before any of us were born. He knows of what has happened in the past and everything about Avianna, things she is yet to be informed of.
Nodding his head, he continues in the direction of her room, calling to a nurse as he does so to follow him.
I stay close behind until we reach the doorway. I stop, my gaze falling on Avianna crying on the floor. I can feel Jaxon’s urge to comfort her radiating from him, he is itching to go to her. He gives her some space though, considering she sharply moved away from him mere minutes ago.
I know just as much as everyone that Morgan will be fine and heal quickly, but Avianna’s expression tells me that she thinks her friend is gravely injured.
There is so much more that she needs to know. I only hope that she gives all of us a chance to explain it to her properly.
*Avianna’s POV*
I sit on the floor crying, looking at Morgan, my friend, who has a piece of glass sticking out of her midriff. What is happening?! I think to myself. They must have done something to me when I was passed out. All this talk of werewolves and supernatural beings is too suspicious. It can’t be a coincidence. But what if it’s true? I shake myself from my thoughts as I hear footsteps running up the corridor. A man who must be the doctor, bursts into the room, followed by a nurse and lastly Xavier.
“Get her onto the bed,” he asks Mikey, “let me take a look at the injury.”
Mikey lifts Morgan with ease and places her gently onto the hospital bed I was lying in just minutes ago; though it felt longer.
I watch quietly, trying to control my sniffles from crying, as the doctor examines her.
“Nothing too serious, just a flesh wound. I’ll grab some things and get it out so she can heal.”
What is he talking about, so she can heal?! She could die!
The doctor moves towards a cupboard to the side of the room, emerging with a tray of things. He carefully extracts the piece of glass and applies some pressure to Morgan’s stomach. He then takes a bottle of liquid and pours some onto her flesh, gaining a hiss of pain and a grimace from Morgan. My sobs completely subsiding, curiosity gets the better of me and I shakily stand to my feet. I will my legs to move towards the bed so I can see the damage properly on my friends body.
As I edge closer, the last thing I ever expected to happen, happens. The open wound is literally healing itself before my eyes. I squeeze them shut tightly, rubbing them and shaking my head. When I reopen them and look again, the once gaping wound has already stopped bleeding and the colour is returning to Morgan’s face.
I feel her gaze up at me, searching my eyes for my reaction.
“Werewolves have fast healing abilities,” I hear Jaxon’s voice murmur from behind me.
This it too much. Everything is too much.
I suddenly feel a wave of tiredness wash over my body and I stumble slightly. Before I can fall, a pair of warm, strong arms grab me from behind and wrap around my middle.
“I’ve got you, don’t worry.” I feel the warm breath on the skin of my neck, very slight tingles being left in its wake. I can feel my body giving in to the tiredness, it feels like all of my energy has suddenly left my body after a surge of adrenaline. I fight to keep my eyes open and see Morgan give me a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry Avi, I’ll be fine. Trust me.”
All I see is sincerity and worry in her eyes.
Why would she be worried? Is that worry for me?
I have no idea what is even real anymore. This all feels like a strange dream that I am yet to awaken from. Maybe I am still passed out and this IS all a dream? I will myself to wake up but only feel myself becoming more drained by the second.
I feel a pair of arms scoop me up and hold me against a warm, muscly chest. I feel the vibration of them speaking against the side of my face, but I’m not even paying attention to the words. I strangely feel…safe. A few moments later, I am being carried away from the room and down numerous corridors. My eyes are only just staying open and barely taking in my surroundings.
What felt like a lifetime later, I hear a door creak open and the strong arms that were carrying me set me down onto something warm and soft. I feel my hair being smoothed from my face, the light tingles returning. It was somewhat soothing, yet confusing too.
“Everything is going to be alright, Avi,” I hear a male voice whisper softly. “I will protect you, always.”
Before I let the darkness envelope me, I feel a strange tugging sensation in my mind. “Avianna…”
