"She is really important to you ." The words hung in the air. A young man walked towards them. For a brief second— Even Isabella forgot how to breathe. But Leonard didn't look surprised. If anything...He looked amused. "Interesting," Daniel said slowly. "That's new." Leonard's expression didn't change. "Who are you ." Daniel sighed softly, as if bored. "You really don't remember anything, do you?" Silence. Leonard's jaw tightened. "Say what you came here for," he said coldly. Daniel's gaze flickered briefly toward Isabella. Then back to Leonard. "Fine," he said. "Let's stop pretending." The room seemed to grow colder. "Your little accident..." Daniel continued, "wasn't random." Isabella's heart skipped. Leonard's eyes darkened. "I figured." Daniel nodded slightly. "But what you don't know..." he added, his voice lowering, "...is that it wasn't just about her." A pause. "It was about you." Silence. "What do you mean?" Isabella asked, her voice barely steady. Daniel smiled faintly. "Removing her was just the first step," he said. "Weakening you was the real goal." Leonard took another step forward. Danger radiating from him. "You're talking too much." "And you're not listening enough." Daniel said For the first time—The tension snapped. "You think this is about jealousy?" Daniel continued. "Or some emotional drama?" He shook his head slowly. "This is business." Isabella frowned. "What does that have to do with me?" she asked. Daniel's eyes locked onto hers. "Everything." Her chest tightened. "Your marriage," he said, "was never just a contract." Leonard's expression shifted slightly. "It was leverage." Silence again. "Leverage?" Isabella repeated. Daniel nodded. "Your name. Your background. Your connections..." he said. "You were the key to something much bigger than either of you realized." Leonard's voice dropped. "What are you talking about?" Daniel didn't answer immediately. Instead—He reached into his pocket. And pulled out a small device. Click. The screen behind them lit up again. New files appeared. Private and hidden. Locked away for a reason. Isabella's breath caught as she saw her own name again. But this time—It wasn't just surveillance. It was something else, something worse. "Financial records?" she whispered. Leonard's eyes scanned the screen quickly. Then—They stopped. His expression darkened instantly. "This isn't possible." Daniel smiled. "Oh, it is." Isabella's heart pounded. "What is it?" she asked, her voice shaking. Leonard didn't answer. Because the truth...Was already there, clear and unavoidable. Her name. Her identity. Connected to something massive, Illegal, dangerous and completely hidden from her. "I don't understand..." she whispered. Daniel's voice softened slightly. "That's because you were never supposed to." Then— Leonard finally spoke. His voice low.Dangerous. "You married me ..." he said slowly, "...because of this." A pause. His eyes turned to Isabella. And for the first time—There was something new in them. Not just obsession, not just protection, but suspicion. "What aren't you telling me? Leonard by asked Isabella. The question hit harder than anything else. Isabella felt it. Deep.Sharp. Because this time... Leonard wasn't looking at her like someone he wanted to protect He was looking at her like someone he didn't fully trust. "I don't know what that is," she said quickly, her voice unsteady. "I swear, I've never seen those files before." Daniel let out a quiet chuckle. "Of course you haven't," he said. "That's the point." Leonard's eyes didn't leave Isabella. "Then explain it." "I can't!" she said, frustration rising. "You think I would hide something like this?" Long heavy silence for some moments. That hesitation again— Even if it wasn't intentional cut deep. Leonard looked back at the screen, at the records, at her name. "Everything ties back to you," he said quietly. Her chest tightened. "I didn't do anything," she whispered. Daniel stepped forward slightly. "You didn't have to," he said. "You were born into it." Both of them turned to him. "What does that mean?" Isabella asked. Daniel tilted his head slightly. "Your father," he said. The word alone sent a chill through her. "What about him?" Daniel's smile faded slightly. "He wasn't just some ordinary man." Isabella frowned. "He died years ago." "That's what you were told." Silence again Her heart skipped. "No," she said immediately. "That's not true." But even as she said it... Doubt crept in. Because something about her past— Was always... unclear. Leonard noticed. "Explain," he demanded. Daniel didn't hesitate this time. "Your father controlled access to offshore accounts. Hidden assets. Untouchable money," he said. "Money that people would kill for." Isabella's head shook slowly. "No... he was just—" "A cover," Daniel cut in. The word hit like a slap. "You were protected," he continued. "Kept away from it. Hidden." Her breathing became uneven. "And when he disappeared..." Leonard's eyes narrowed. "Disappeared?" Daniel nodded. "Not dead," he said. "Disappeared." "And you," Daniel added, looking at Isabella, "became the only link left." Her chest tightened painfully. "I don't understand..." she whispered. Leonard turned to her slowly. "That's why I married you." The words were quiet but devastating. Isabella froze. "What?" she muttered. Leonard's jaw tightened. "The contract... the deal... it wasn't random," he said. "It was planned." Her eyes filled with tears. "So all this time..." her voice broke, "...I was just—what? A target?" "No," Leonard said quickly. But even he didn't sound certain. Daniel watched them both. Silent. Calculating. "You were an asset," he corrected calmly. That word—Broke something inside her. "I'm not an asset," she said, her voice shaking. No one responded immediately. Because right now... Even Leonard didn't know what to say and that hurt more than anything. Tears slipped down her cheeks. "You said I'm important ," she whispered, looking at him. "Was that real... or just part of this too?" Silence. Leonard stepped toward her.But she stepped back. "Don't," she said softly. That stopped him instantly. For the first time—There was distance between them not physical only but emotional too. "I need the truth," she said. "Not protection. Not control. Just the truth." Leonard's hands clenched slightly. "I didn't know everything," he admitted. That wasn't enough Her heart sank. "Then what did you know?" she asked. He hesitated. And that hesitation—Said everything. Before he could answer—The lights suddenly went out. Darkness swallowed the room. A loud sound echoed— Glass shattering somewhere in the mansion. Then— A gunshot rang out.
