I looked down at the bottle in Jed’s hands and hoped I’d see that I could, somehow, reseal it. But the wax was broken, and the cork that had been below that had crumbled. What was done was done. I looked out beyond our circle around the fire and saw the other magic people moving around with the end of the day activities. Lizzie was helping Marcus guide the chickens toward their coop, and Elwood was walking in from the vegetable garden, a basket full of lettuce in his hand. Beatrice’s vision was holding around us, but I knew she couldn’t keep it up forever. I knew we couldn’t sit here forever either.
