CHAPTER 2

I try so hard to read the emotions on her face, but I cannot quite place it, mainly because the expression on her face isn’t what I expected to see. She looks at me with a straight face, as if she is trying to understand who I am to interfere in her business. “Again, I am sorry if it seems like I am interfering in your business. I just think you look like someone who would take whatever help she gets at this moment. I overheard your conversation with that man earlier, and I thought I could help,” I explain to her. “So, you were eavesdropping?” She asks timidly, her voice sounding like sweet melody to my ears, all the more reason I want to unravel the mystery about her. “I was not eavesdropping,” I say with my famously charming smile that has gotten tens of girls into my bed. “But I think everyone in the bar knows what you were talking about, considering how loud the man was,” I explain to her as I take the seat that was previously occupied by the lawyer she was talking with earlier. “Oh, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude,” she apologizes instantly, making me smile slightly. “I love them timid and beautiful.” “It’s okay! Just like I said, I would love to help you. I can get you a new and competent lawyer right now if you want.” I say, telling her the first half of my proposal for her. Of course, I wouldn’t want to get her running on her heels if I told her that in order for me to do that for her, I would firstly enjoy the liberty of seeing the beautiful body beneath her skimpy black skirt. Just the view of her sumptuous thigh is enough to get me wanting her. I take my time to discreetly look at that beautifully tanned thighs again. Her skirt stops mid-thigh so it gives me a lot of liberty to enjoy the view before me. I have noticed her the moment she rushed into the bar earlier, with beads of sweat on her forehead. I watched as she hurried to the bar shelves to get dressed. I have been a regular at Mooney’s, but I never knew that someone as beautiful as her worked here. This is my first time seeing her, and I cannot deny how beautiful she is, even in her cheap, wrinkled shirt and extremely tight skirt. The way she packs her long flowing brunette hair into a neat bun fascinated me as I observed her from my table. I watched how she hurriedly, yet gracefully, walked towards the skinny lawyer at table 4 a few minutes ago, and how she gingerly sat down like a proper lady. I also noticed how she tried to pull her short skirt downward to cover more of her thighs, and I couldn't help but smile at how she was struggling with that. At that moment, I knew I was definitely going to pursue her. For the first time ever, I am happy that my best friend, Liam, is late for our night out. It gives me the liberty to study this new lady who has piqued my interest, as I try to find the best way to start a conversation with her. My happiness grew tremendously when the skinny lawyer practically announced what they were talking about to the whole restaurant. So here I am, taking advantage of her situation to get what I want. But my joy is instantly dampened when I hear the reply she gives to my request. “Oh, thank you for the offer. But I will sort it out on my own. I really appreciate the gesture, though.” She says kindly with a shy smile as she tries to get up. She looks like someone who is trying her best to avoid trouble or disrespecting me. This makes me deduce that she must have recognized who I am. After all, I am Alex. But what I do not understand is why she is turning down help from me, Alex Winston. “Excuse me?” I ask dumbfounded. She looks at me with confusion in her brown-colored eyes as she tries to comprehend my question, which in turn confuses and slightly insults me. “I… I… don’t…” She stammers, with a conflicted expression on her face. “I just offered to help you,” I say curtly. “I know! And I appreciate it. So much. But I’d rather solve my problems myself,” she says with a kind of smile that seems practiced over time. “I hope you are not offended?” she adds. I am left looking at her, feeling more confused than I have been in years. This is the highest level of insult I have ever received from someone who is looking at me kindly with her cute puppy dog eyes. This makes me even more intrigued by her. “Did you catch my name earlier?” I ask. “Yes. You said your name is Alex, sir. Thank you for the offer, Mr. Alex,” she says politely, which makes me wonder if I am having a conversation with a robot, as I haven’t been able to get the reaction I want out of her yet. “I would still love to help you,” I say adamantly, my patience thinning into the atmosphere. I just want to have my way with her. I don’t want all her innocent drama. She looks confused and a little frightened at the way I talked, but at this point, I do not care. I reach into my pocket and bring out my card and discreetly attach a tiny little note to the back. “Here, this is my card,” I say as I extend it to her, while she still looks as confused as ever. “Call me on this line whenever you are ready to take my help. I will be waiting for your call,” I say to her with a smile. Although I am beginning to get annoyed by the fact that she’s not swooning over me like every normal lady I have ever met, I still try to mask it because I must get what I want with her. When she hesitates to take the card from me, I take her hand and place the card in it. The moment my skin comes in contact with hers, I feel a little tingling sensation that makes my pupils dilate instantly. For the first time, I am speechless as I look into her deep brown eyes, trying to comprehend the beauty they behold. She also looks at me as if she is trying to understand me. I don’t know how long we both stare at each other until the jingling of the doorbell breaks our eye contact. I instantly let go of her hand when I see Liam walk into the bar, giving me a questioning look as he observes the scene before him. Knowing that I definitely will not hear the end of it from him, I casually walk back to my table, only to stop midway when I remember that I haven’t done something very important. “You didn’t tell me your name,” I say to her. “Oh, that’s right. My name is Cynthia,” she says with another polite smile as she begins to walk away. Again, she’s got me wondering what her deal is exactly. I still haven’t been able to c***k her exterior façade. I look at her back view as she walks away until Liam interrupts me. “At this rate, Alex, I am sure you will bore a hole into the young lady’s back with your stare,” he jokes. “Shut up,” I grumble at him as I take my seat again, making him chuckle. “But seriously, what’s happening? What’s your deal with the lady?” he asks again as I just give him my signature sly smile. I feel confident that I will get her in my bed, especially with the note I attach to my card. I am sure she will reach out to me soon. No one can resist my charm. “Let’s just say what Alex Winston wants, Alex Winston gets!”
