OUT ON BAILA week later, Jamie stood in her parents’ house, waiting for her father to arrive home. The sour taste in her mouth and a weight in her chest made her want to leave without talking to him. The shock of it all still made her mind run rampant with ideas and questions. Despite everything going on, she still believed he was innocent of murder. She needed to confirm that belief.
She paced the floor until her mother gave her a strange look, as if the movement bothered her. Jamie sat back down on the couch, her legs shaking beneath her. Why were Gregory and her father taking so long?
