Oskar began the descent along the same path that led him from Mundenreich. In spite of the night's darkness, the path was visible due to the star's reflection on the mantled snow.
Another obscure detail was Rama’s anonymity, which was played pompously to the hilt, ostentatiously dramatic. Rama didn't want to show himself, perhaps because Oskar could have identified him. This meant he'd met the Mayor before, before his mind had been manipulated.
