The Lycan didn't attack either of them just yet. Instead, it stood there on its hind legs, watching the two of them while baring its teeth. Aden was making sure not to make any sudden movements. Although both of them were there, the Lycan seemed to only focus on Jo and whatever she's doing. She pushed Aden further out the way slowly. That must've triggered the Lycan because it howled and started towards her. Jo dogged the beast as it flew into one of the trees, and she managed to cut its left arm as she moved. It lunged at her again, and she kicked it right in the face giving her enough time to move further out of the way.
"YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!" she yelled at Aden.
"ARE YOU CRAZY," he yelled back, trying to hit it with a tree branch that had fallen. He couldn't fight this thing in his human form, but changing into his wolf form just meant more problems. Even though Jo looked like she could hold her own, he knew that she was no match for this mindless beast.
Jo dogged again, and this time she hurt her ankle moving awkwardly, and she was lying on her back. The Lycan looked her in the eyes, and she knew this was going to be her last moment alive. Its dark pupils leered at her. It did one last howl, signaling her death as it lunged towards her, its blood trailing behind it. When she thought she was done for something large, she stepped in between both her and the Lycan, and it threw it against the tree. Now Jo was looking at two beasts. The large world looked familiar, and it was the wolf from that night. It stood in front of her. She started to panic, looking around for Aden, but the only thing she could see was tattered clothes on the ground, and then she knew that this wolf was Aden.
Aden didn't know how else to protect the both of them but to transform. Jo was there looking at his form through the eyes that harbored both fear and anger. She looked as if she wanted to kill both him and the Lycan standing before her. He would have to worry about that part later because right now, both of their lives were in danger. Aden snarled at the Lycan, who was busy locking its wound that Jo placed on him. The smell of his blood smelled like it was rotting flesh, unnatural, and a hint of familiarity. Aden knew he couldn't ever forget this smell. This was not the smell of a natural wolf but something not of this world.
He stood between Jo and the Lycan because he seemed to be more focused on her than him. And Aden snarled his teeth in his direction, daring him to try his luck. He moved closer, and both creatures sized each other up. They were waiting for the right moment to strike each other. For certain, this thing cannot bite Aden, or Aden would change into one of them. Jo took this time to move further back, hoping to get far away from the beasts as she could. The Lycan looked to be even more upset that Aden was getting involved, or it was the excitement it was feeling going against another beast. The Lycan paced in a circle and then lashed out at Aden, and he was knocked into the treehouse.
Aden could see some stars in his vision, but the Lycan also fixed its gaze back onto Jo, who stretched out her blade. Even in this state, she wasn't going to back down. Aden pulled himself together and then jumped onto the beast's back, bitting it and clawing at it. Its arms couldn't reach, and Aden finally used his hind legs to kick the Lycan in its back, and they all heard a c***k. The Lycan howled in pain and limped off somewhere in the woods. Aden stood there panting, making sure he didn't drop his guard because Lycans can also heal themselves.
Jo finally stood up, but her blade was still out. She looked at Aden like she wasn't sure what to do. The gig was up, and now she knew. Aden took a step closer to her, looking at her to see what she would do. Jo held the blade in front of her; her hand was trembling. She didn't have to say anything more for Aden to get the message. He gave her one last look, but this time it was sorrowful, and then he to disappeared into the night.
Jo dropped to her knees and held her hands up to her face. The Lycan was one thing, but now she knows about Aden's secret. That's why he never really got involved with the other students, and both he and Creed stayed to themselves. But was Creed a werewolf as well? But his wolf form was something different than what her family taught her to kill. She was taught to kill the beast that attacked them tonight. She remembered the time she went outside the walls, and there he was, a lone wolf just basking in the moonlight, and from the looks of things, that was Aden as well. It was the same docile wolf that didn't mean her any harm that night and saved her life tonight.
But he is also her enemy. Her father taught her to kill anything that wasn't human, and that went against nature in this world. But Aden is also kind and generous. He made her laugh, and he makes her time here better than she would ever think. She wouldn't;t be able to survive here without him. If Derrick were ever to find out that she was falling for a Lycan, the family would cut her head off and put it on a spike as an example. There is no sympathy for war, and now it was in her backyard. Jo pulled herself together and managed to get to her bike. She rode home, trying to remember if her life was ever normal.
