Chapter 14

1632 Words
Jo woke up from a sleepless night, and there in her bed was Amy.  She was lying there with her thinking face on.  But there was something wrong, and after the ordeal Jo just had last night, she wasn't ready for anything more.  But Amy was never really like this.  She was always a happy-go-lucky person who still looked at the brighter side of things.  But this time, she looked angry about something.  Jo rubbed the cold out of her eyes and sat up, "Is everything okay?"     "Hey, so I did some digging, and I found out something about your little boy toy.  And based on your ripped clothes and the blood, I wonder if I need to go and kill him or not.  And by the look on your face, I can tell you know exactly what I'm talking about."     Jo turned her head, not expecting this kind of conversation at all.  She pushed her braids out of her face and took one to her lips to bite it, "It's not what you think.  We were attacked last night, and I guess he did 3hat he had to do to keep us safe.  It gave me nightmares.  The Lycan was out for blood, and he was there with me, and he protected me."     Amy sighed like she was holding something heavy in, "Don't tell your parents anything.  Don't tell anyone about him or his family."     That was another unexpected response, "So you already know about them?"     Amy placed a finger to her lips.  That's all that she was going to say about the matter, "I'm glad he kept you safe.  But you don't look happy about it."     "Well, I think I freaked out at the end.  I mean, seeing him for who he really is.  That scared the hell out of me.  I held my blade up to him, and I think that if he would've come closer, I might've killed him.  Everything in me is telling me to kill him."     "Do you want to?"     Jo looked at the spot he placed his hands, "No...but I also don't want to be near him."     "Why not," she said while hitting Jo in the face with a pillow.  It was typical of her. She couldn't stay serious for too long, "I see the way you look at him.  I can tell you like him even when you're talking about him.  Even now, so what is the problem?"     "He's not human.  I was trained all of my life to kill something like him, and now...I don't know what to do."     Amy looked at Jo and rubbed her back, "I was in love once."     "You were?" Jo loved whenever Amy talked about her life.  It was a way to get to know her more.  Learn about why she was who she was.     "Yeah, I was...He was killed, though.  Your father gave the order.  He said that a Lycan had killed him, but I did some digging and found out that was a lie.  But before that, I was like you, only moving because I was taught and trained that they were the enemy.  For months I killed any werewolf that came in my sight.  I learned a lot, though.  And it would be best if you educated yourself.  The werewolf we were trained to kill is the monster that attacked you last night.  I found out that there were different types, just like there are different types of people.  Your boy toy is not the monster we have been taught he was.  They live peaceful and secret lives only caring about their loved ones of the pack."     Jo remembered Aden saying something about his family is somewhat tribal.  That they always looked out for each other.  She remembered wishing her family was like that.  But no, all she had was a psychopath for a brother, a narcissist for a father, and a drunkard mother.     "I found out more about my lover.  He was also a werewolf."  Jo looked at Amy with a shocked face on, "Yes, I know, little bird.  He was a hell of a man and a wolf.  He was the adopted son of the man Ricky.  He took him in when he was just a little pup and tried to take care of him.  This was way before your boy toy and his pack came here.  Yes, Ricky is a good guy; he's like a father to me too.  But the Terrells' don't know that.  They tend to ignore my commoner life, if you know what I mean."     "What did you do when you found out he was a werewolf?"     Amy looked down at her hands and smiled.  Probably thinking about all of the amazing times she had with him.  She looked back at Jo with tears in her eyes, "I loved him even harder after I found out."                                                                                     #     It was early morning, and Aden was on his way to school when he saw Creed leaning against the wall.  He looked like he was in a daze, lost in his thoughts, as Aden walked up.  He must've been waiting for him because his expression turned into a small smile.  They haven't spoken to each other for a while now, and Aden figured now was the time to talk.  But Creed looked sickly to him for some reason.  Almost like all of his blood was drained from his body with his ashen face.  Creed outstretched his hand for a handshake, and Aden looked at it first before taking the bait.     "So," he said, looking Creed in his eyes, "I'm guessing you're not mad at me anymore.  You're finally coming to your senses then?"     "Yeah, I'm sorry for all of that.  I was just worried.  I still think you shouldn't hang around her, though.  It's bad enough there was another attack last night. I don't want any of them starting to snoop around our home."  Creed still had his hand out for a shake, and Aden finally shook his hand for the truce.  It wasn't easy, but this is his best friend, and no matter what, he would have Creed's back if he were ever in trouble.     "What do you mean there was an attack last night?"     "Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't hear about it yet.  It was all over the news.  It was a man this time, and it was ugly.  All of the hunters are up in arms now.  They're paying close attention to anyone and anything that gives them an ounce of suspicion."     "Yeah, well, I had my own issues last night.  I ran into the Lycan; both I and Jo had to fight it.  It got so bad that I had to shift."     Creed stopped dead in his tracks, and a flash of anger went across his face, "You shifted in front of her?  Now, what are we going to do?  What did she even say?"  Creed was so worried about what Aden had just told him, "We should tell the Elder and your mom."     "No, I don't think she will say anything because that was last night.  That would give her enough time to warn the hunters.  They would've been here by now."     "You really think she's not going to say anything, Aden?  I mean, you're her sworn enemy.  The fact that she didn't kill you is going to look bad on her part.  I don't trust her, and neither should you."  Aden regretted spilling that little detail because Creed started to look even sicker, like he was about to throw up.     "I don't think she's going to say anything.  I think our secret is safe. Besides, she could care less about her family and their problems.  But I also think she's going to stay away from me from now on.  I did what I had to do to save her life and mine as well.  But I'm going back to that spot tonight to check for any clues about who it could be.  I might be able to pick up a scent and maybe trail it.  Is the council still coming during the harvest festival?"     "Yeah, so far as I know, they're still coming.  You've been gone so much you're missing some things at the fireside meetings.  The pack is terrified, and they're actually talking about moving into the bunker."  The bunker was a spot that was built during the time of war.  Most of the werewolves of that time hid out in them so that they wouldn't get found out or hunted down.  Sometimes, packs would stay in them for years until they feel safe for them to emerge.  That wasn't always a good thing because when they would come out, some of them would go insane from being down there for so long, "But they're going to wait for the council to see what they're going to do about it."     "And my dad," Aden hasn't been to see his father because he's afraid to see him like that.  It wasn't easy seeing a wolf-like him so strong, and then now he is at his weakest point.     "He's not doing so well from what I hear.  It would be best if you see your dad.  I don't know, but everyone is acting weird, and not having a stable alpha could make the pack go crazy.  There are talks about that attack being an assassination attempt.  There is a lot of whispers going on."     "And what do you think should happen."     Creed bit his bottom lip as if he was holding back his words.  He would do this from time to time when he was about to say something offensive.  But before he could answer, he looked up at the school building.  He started to glare.  Aden looked up to see Jo standing there waiting for him.
