Chapter 18

The large corridor was dark and damp. You would think that because of the beauty of the upstairs, one would think down here would be just as so. But it was an entirely different world. They allowed their eyes to adjust to the dark and then they started moving down the hall. There were rooms with large gadgets inside, they could see that this was a place where they manufactured their own type of weapons. A strong and familiar chemical smell almost made Aden sick to the stomach and he felt as though he was about to throw up. Amy took the lead, she told Jo that one time she managed to get down here but it was a day that people were occupying the space and she couldn't get as much information as she could about this place.  The further they went down the hall the more Aden could feel the hairs on his arms and his instincts starting to kick in on overdrive.     "This door here," whispered Amy. This was the particular spot she wanted to visit, "We have to try and get into here."     "But how," Aden tried to look into the glass window but all he could see was darkness.  Amy took out a strange gadget and then she looked at the both of them with a strong seriousness that Jo had never seen before.     "Once I use this thing we have about twenty minutes before they notice anything is up. This room is larger than the other rooms from the blueprint and whenever a room is larger that's the room you want to pay attention to the most." She pulled out what looked like an old phone and it made a few small noises.  As she was working on getting the door unlocked Aden could sense a presence around them.  Something was down there with them, he could feel it.     "We have to hurry up."     "Hold your horses' cutie...everything takes time." There was a loud digital click and the door opened and once they stepped inside the room came to life.  Everything turned on and Jo looked all around with amazement.  But she stopped in her tracks once she realized what Aden was looking at.  It was a werewolf in a large tube surrounded by some sort of liquid. He walked up to the glass and instantly remembered the creature.  This girl had run away from the pack a few months ago.  Everyone assumed that she wanted to go solo, that the pack life just wasn't for her.  She had somewhat inspired Aden with his thoughts of freedom.  but she wasn't free as he could see, she became one of the test subjects for the hunters.     On the large monitor, Amy was trying to punch in some code numbers and she plugged in a drive to collect as much data as she could, "You knew her," asked Jo standing close to his side.     "Yeah...we used to run together. She had a different outlook on the pack life as I did.  I assumed she had got out and was living the life she wanted but she ended up here."     "I'm sorry you had to see this."     "Yeah well...that's our life.  I wonder what they're doing to her?"     "They're doing this," said Amy. Both Aden and Jo looked at the screen and there was Creed starring back at them.  He was in three forms, his human form, werewolf, "He's that Lycan," said Jo as she backed away from the monitor.     There was a clapping sound behind all three of them.  Aden stood there balling his fists as she looked at his best friend who was leaning against the wall so casually, "I was hoping you didn't find out like this my friend.  I told you to stay away from these humans.  They ruin everything."     "But you're working for my father," spat Jo...Aden couldn't find the words to speak to him, "How dare you play him like a fiddle! All of those innocent people...Aden's father!"    "What about him? As far as I see it the entire werewolf species should be wiped out.  You see his father made me an outcast as soon as he saw me.  But I found out why.  I found out he knew where I came from. I never had parents...I was born here.  But your father was such a weak man, he felt compassion for this beast. One day I was sought out by your brother little Jo...he told me everything.  At first, I wasn't going to take the bait. But then I found out something...I was never going to be accepted into the pack.  Once I was eighteen your father was either going to kill me or he was going to send me out alone."     "He wasn't going to kill you," said Aden he couldn't believe that his best friend who he knew the majority of his life was someone not to be trusted. He told Aden everything and shared emotional things with him. Now it made sense why that Lycan was trying so hard to attack Jo and not him that night in the clearing, "What about me Creed?  What about me your best friend?"     "You...you have no idea what I would do for you. But you're so thick-headed that you don't even know what's going on?  I have loved you since we were kids.  I think the pack knows just how different I was because they always stayed away from me. Besides you...you were always by my side.  I think that if you hadn't met her we both would be out in the world, making our own pack."     "What did my father promise you," spat Jo.  She pulled out her blade and pointed it at Creed.     "Promised?"     "My father hates your kind unless he breeds them I guess. But he had to have offered you something in place of killing Aden's father...which you failed at."     Creed looked at Jo and pictured her head in his mouth, "Well little Josephine, he promised me two things. One, Aden here is to come with me...and two...he promised me the pack as long as I let him do whatever he wanted to some of the members.  He was very interested in Baxter because of powerful he is."     "The pack," asked Aden confused, "He can't give you the pack. The council will be here and if you think they will let you take over--"     "Let me...first of all, the council was never coming. That was a lie that was told to that old wolf Elder. I wanted to see what would happen and you surprised me at how you wanted to go all hero on me.  I kept trying to warn you not to come here tonight, but you had to follow this b***h around like a sick little puppy letting her make every decision you made because you thought she was helping."     I dawned on Aden what Creed had meant, "Let us pass Creed!"     "I don't think so...I wonder how many of our weak pack can handle the s*******r.  Will they all die or will some survive tonight? But you can save at least your life by coming with me.  We belong together don't you realize that?"     "This is one sadistic f**k," said Amy.     "Over my dead body," said Jo as she took another step towards him.     "I'm not coming with you Creed...I can't believe you went this low...I don't love you in that way."     Creed had gone silent and his expression had gone very dark, "Your father said I could kill you. Your brother wanted to torture you but I guess your parent still had some love for his traitorous daughter. And you Aden are making a big mistake. I will have your heads atop of my headboard." Ade prepared himself as he could see Creed starting to morph into that large creature. His odor was burning the hairs inside of Aden's nose.     "The both of you have to get behind me."     "Hell no," yelled Jo.     "You have to...so that I can distract him so the two of you could run for it.  We will meet up later."     "I'm not leaving you, Aden."     "Yeah lover boy," joked Amy.  She didn't seem phased by any of this, "It's been a long time since we seen some action and you're not stuck with some bimbos that can't handle themselves."     "Fine," he said as Creed finally was whole, "But we all have to make a break for it at some point.  I have to get home as soon as I can." They thought that Creed was about to lunge towards them and then they saw him howl and then disappeared through the door. This wasn't good for either of them, "He wants to hunt us."     "Oh yeah...he really is a sadistic fuck." Aden walked ahead of them and Amy glanced at the map, "There is another opening but this hidden base is so large that it's on the other side.  Not to mention we have company people."     They could see lights at the other end of the dark corridor.  The rest of the hunters were on their way and now they had two enemies to worry about.  They turned the corner and once they saw the three of them they all rushed and then they bolted around a corner trying their best to stay away.  One of the hunters had reached them and before Aden could do anything Jo was already on it, taking her blade and slicing him right in the chest.  Before they could turn the final corner Aden was knocked hard into the air and landed up against the hard cement walls. Creed was standing there in his Lycan form licking his teeth as he starred at both Jo and Amy. It was almost as if he was smiling at the moment.  But before he could lunge at them a wolf grabbed onto his neck and Creed howled out in pain.     Aden had clomped onto Creed and was not going to let go, giving the girls the opportunity to run down the corridor towards the door.  Creed finally got Aden from around his neck and tossed him towards the girls.  He snarled his teeth and Aden was trying his best to get up but both Amy and Jo had to drag the large wolf out of the heavy doors as Creed just missed them by a hair.  They could hear the large creature banging on the doors and howling as loud.  He must've been really upset because moments later they could hear gurgling screams from the other men.  He was now out of control and the three of them had to get far away from there.     Jo was trying her best to get Aden up but he couldn't really move until the next thing she knew there was another wolf there that was even larger than Aden, he was accompanied by Ricky, "We can't stay here too long," he said as both he and the large wolf had to pick Aden up and place him into this large truck that seemed to be coated in some type of thick and heavy metal. Amy hugged Ricky as tight as she could.  Jo looked on in amazement because she had never seen her give any ounce of affection to anyone else but her.     "Jo meet my grandfather...he always seems to come at the right time."     "Yeah well, one day I won't be there to do that."     "Oh shut up you grouch."     "And what about me," the other wolf that was with Ricky finally morphed back into his human form.  He was large and burly.     "You know you're always in my heart handsome," Amy gave him a large kiss and they were locked like that for a while.     "I thought I lost you too," he said. Jo wasn't paying attention to much that was going on around her because she was focused on Aden. He was still in his wolf form and he was knocked out cold. She moved her hands through his soft and thick fur. Looking around there were a lot of people in that van and they all looked wounded and their spirits low, "The name's Baxter young lady," Jo could feel him starring at her but she didn't want to move her gaze for fear that Aden would slip further away from her, "He will be okay. His body is trying to recover from the attack is all.  We go into this deep coma so our limbs could heal on their own."     "He's told me about you," she finally said, "Not your name but he said there was someone home who always got on his nerves. I think I heard Creed mention your name a few times."     "Yeah...well...I can be a pain in his side. But after tonight, he's going to need all of the strength he could get."     "What happened?"     "They came when all of our guards were down and swept through the place. They killed those who tried to fight back and kidn*pped some.  These are the last of the ones who escaped. It's not much of us. But this truck and another truck is all that's left of our home."     "What about his mom and dad?"     "His mother is safe for now...but the alpha...she slit his throat so that they couldn't take him alive and it messed her up a bit. Aden is going to be in a world of pain whenever he wakes up...it's up to you to be there for him. For now, we are going to a secret town not far from here. We're going to where the council is based. It's not going to be easy to get the three of you in there because you're human so they have a place for you guys outside."     "I'm not leaving him."     "I know that but...in this case in order to secure safety you have to hang back for a minute. I don't know if you understand but now that Judge is gone...Aden is the new Alpha and when he wakes up I have to help him as best I could to cope.  When you're the alpha there are certain things that change about the person.  I have to make sure that when he wakes up he is still him, and nothing else awoken within his blood. It will be dangerous and to make sure you are safe you will have to wait outside.  You will still be under protection." Jo just laid her head on top of his fur and breathed in his earthy smell. She hoped that wouldn't be the case and that whenever Aden wakes up he wouldn't be anyone else but Aden.
