Chapter 5

Aden woke up to a loud banging at the doors.  He looked out of his window and could see a number of the pack starting to gather in the front peering out of their doors.  Getting dressed he had hoped his traveling from last night didn't stir up any trouble because he does go outside on a night there was a heavy curfew enacted.  He peered down through the metal beams and there stood his mother looking beyond worried.  It's been a long time he saw that face on her.  Quickly he climbed down as two men in suits were at the doors.  His father was standing there looking like he always does, calm and collected not giving off any emotions or hints that he was worried or nervous.      Creed was hovering in the nearby shadows, he was good at being invisible, since Aden couldn't hear what was going on he knew that Creed would be able to.  His mother gave him a look and then walked over to where Aden was standing.  He could feel the fear coming off of her, "What's going on," asked Aden.     Serene looked at her son in the eyes, "They're coming by for checks but nobody from the government has ever come to knock on our doors even when there was an issue in the city.  It's possible that they have someone with suspicions about us."     "But how do you know it's that deep?  I mean they could just be doing this as a caution.  Checking every house."     "Yes, but when the last attack happened, they still never came here to ask questions.  Maybe they found something that would lead them here."     Aden looked at his father who gave a bunch of nods and a subtle smile every now and again, "I don't think we have anything to worry about," said Aden.  His mother didn't look convinced.  They talked for a while longer and his father finally walked over to them with an unreadable expression on his face. His mother gave Aden a nod to leave them alone and he followed.  Aden took that time to go get ready for school, whatever Creed heard he knew he was going to tell him on their way to school.                                                                                         #     It was a cold fall morning and they could tell that winter was right around the corner.  They wouldn't be able to feel the chill like everyone else but they still had to dress down as they did.  They wanted to make a stop at Neko's spot before they went in.  It was deserted in the morning, aside from the regulars who came in there for their morning coffee and newspaper.  Neko was outside sweeping when the boys walked up.  He looked like he didn't get any sleep but the way he ran his place it's almost like he never slept.  But this was the first time in a long time that he actually looked tired.     "Two days in a row, this is a record," he joked, "I know what you're here for and I can't get information that quick boys."     "I know Neko," said Aden, "The suits were at our place this morning.  Know anything about that at least?  Maybe something came over the scanner?"     "Nothing to give alarms  But I do know the suits you're talking about are from the hunter association I told you about yesterday.  It wasn't our regular suits."     "That explains why they showed up," said Creed, "They were asking your dad what he was doing late last night."  Neko looked around making sure to lower his voice a bit more.     "If I were you I would be on guard.  I told you that their kids started at that school you both are going to.  And from what I hear the brother is a real nasty piece of s**t.  I would keep an eye on those two, no doubt."  While Neko was talking he looked up the street to the many people who were on their way to wherever it was they needed to be and he spotted the Johnson girl walking.  She wasn't walking particularly fast more so walking and taking in the sights.  She was wearing a grey and black outfit.  Aden watched her looking at the many different shops and the bright lights, not really focused on her surroundings.  He wondered what she would look like if she wore purple or yellow, but she didn't seem like the type of girl to be wearing something so loud like that.     Last night he was able to sit with her in the moonlight sky away from what was supposed to be home.  He remembered the longing she had on her face as he stared at his wolf form in the dark.  To be back out there with her again he was starting to wish for more than anything in this moment as she walked down the street.     "Aden?" said Creed bringing him back to reality, Aden almost jumped out of his body as he felt Creed's hands on his face with a gentle stroke.  He looked at Creed with a confused expression and it was just him and Creed standing there because Neko had already gone back inside, "You were out of it dude," said Creed with a weird shaky voice, "I had to do something to bring you back to earth."     Aden rubbed where Creed had just touched him, "Sorry...I was lost in my head a bit.  Maybe we should try to get to know that new girl."     "Are you crazy?  Your parents will flip.  You can't be that serious."     "And why not?  I mean we need some more information about them.  We don't have to get too close just close enough to hear something."     "I'm beginning to think this has nothing to do with the pack.  Maybe a personal interest."     "Oh get over it Creed.  You're such a coward sometimes.  You need to get some wolf balls.  By the way, I'm not the only one who sneaks out I see."     "What are you talking about?"     "I went by your room  last night and you weren't there."     "Yeah well, neither were you so there.  I have my own time away at times."  They walked to school bickering on who was the most annoying that morning.  Aden could sense a bit of hostility rising in Creed that he hadn't felt before.  Did his comment about the girl really upset him so much?
