CHAPTER 8

Tyler explained everything to Nate what the doctor said, and also what happened to Eli. "So don't panic, OK? I'm alright, I just need some treatment, then I'll be back to normal." Eli said,

Nate let out a sigh, "Alright, so take a lot of rest, when are you going to be discharged?" he asked. "Tomorrow afternoon," she said. "Then I'll be back tomorrow morning. I'll just go to the police station, I will ask about the investigation."

"Before you go, I need to talk to you." Tyler said. "About what?", Nate asked, curiously. "You'll find out." he answered.

They left Eli as soon as she fell asleep. "Where are you taking me?" Nate asked, "Just followed me."said Tyler. Then they entered a laboratory, and he started talking,

"This hospital is owned by my family. I got curious the last time you didn't answer my question. That's why I brought Eli here. I asked her blood to be examined."

"You did what?" Nate is starting to get mad, "Wait.. let me finish, so these are the results," he handed to Nate the paper stating Eli's blood results.

"Do you know anything about this?" Nate put the results down and said, "What if I do?"

"So you know.. she's a hybrid, but when I was talking to her earlier, I'm sure she was not aware of it," he told Nate.

"What?! Did you tell her about this?" Nate looked tense."No, but I'm about to, before I start training her." Tyler said, then Nate walked towards him and said,

"Training? Who gave you the permission!? And you don't have the right to tell her ANYTHING! She needs to live her life as normal as possible, " said Nate.

"Normal? She could smell a coffee 300 feet away from her, you still call that normal?" Tyler said, leaning towards Nate, who was slightly shaking his head and said, "Is she aware that she could smell that far? She wasn't right?" Nate said in a sarcastic tone,

"Her condition is just temporary, the moment her vision comes back she will find out." Tyler said. "Just don't say anything, that's what her parents wanted, so don't decide for her, YOU know nothing, " Nate said, while he prodded him on his left shoulder,

"And you do?" asked Tyler, starting to get irritated. Nate stared at him then let out a sigh and walked away. He went back to Eli's room. He looked at the sleeping Eli while holding her hand.

"Can you stop touching her?" Tyler, who had just entered the room said, irritated. "Why? I'm his best friend, I'm allowed to do this much," Nate said, trying to annoy him.

Knock! Knock!

Their little quarrel was interrupted. "Nate, it's the Chief he wants to talk to you," Chris said, waiving his phone. He went and talked outside.

"Hello dad?" he answered, "Nate, Mila escaped!" Nicolas said. "What?! How?" Nate was shocked, he didn't expect it at all, since they had tight security.

"Alfred, help her, we are now on the search. But don't worry, we'll handle it, and it's better if you stayed with Eli. We have to make sure they won't get near her." his father said. "I will, I assure you she'll be safe." the phone call ended.

He went back inside and saw Eli was awake, "We're leaving.", so he removed the blanket from Eli, "Nate, wait.. I'm sorry, I don't want to eavesdrop, but I heard your conversation with your father, that Mila, escaped.. and who's Alfred?" ELi asked.

'Shoot! I forgot her sense of hearing is too sharp!'. He told himself, "Oh! Well.. you know my.. father is a police officer, right? Alfred is his subordinate, so.."

"Are you lying to me, Nate? Coz I can hear your heart beat, and it's beating so fast right now, " Eli furrows her brow, but quickly covered her mouth. When she remembers, Tyler is still around, and doesn't know about her situation.

"No! forget what I said, where are we going?" Eli asked him, trying to change the topic. "Somewhere safer, so let's go", he held her hand and pulled her towards the door, but Tyler grabbed his arm. "And where is that exactly?"

"You don't need to know," then he pushed his hand. "No, you're not taking her anywhere, " Tyler said, "And who are you to stop me?" Both glared at each other.

Tyler stood and blocked the door, "You don't want to test me," Nate said with confidence. "Let's see, why don't you try?" said Tyler, provoking him.

Eli could feel the intensity between the two, she didn't want them to hurt each other. "STOP!" she said with heavy breathing. Tyler was shocked to see Eli's eyes, then Nate turned and released her hand.

Her eyes were turning red, "Eli, just relax.. try to breathe in and breathe out," Tyler said, walking slowly towards her, "We have stopped already.. so you can calm down now." Nate said, staring at her.

It took a few minutes before Eli turned back to normal. "Now, can you tell me where are we going?" she asked, "Yes ma' m!" said Nate, trying to make Eli smile by saying 'ma' m, he didn't want to anger her again.

He succeeded! Eli smiled, "I'll bring you to the pac-- my house, to my house." He almost said pack! Tyler wanted to object but didn't want Eli to get mad again, so he said.

"I'm going with you." Nate glared at Tyler and talked through mind link 'Who said you could come with us?' , 'I said, you think I will let her leave with you?'

"Is that alright Nate?" asked Eli, "Sure, of course." He said, forcing himself to sound natural while still glaring at Tyler. The latter just gave him a mischievous smile.

The next day, they decided to leave the hospital before the sun came up. While on the road, Eli felt a little uncomfortable. So she opened the window, feeling the air on her face while her eyes closed, then she sniffed.

"What's that?" she asked, "What is it?" Nate asked, pretending not to know. Eli keeps on sniffing. "Smells like blood?."

Tyler saw Nate was clenching his fist, while still looking at Eli.

"Let's turn around," he told Tyler. He's not afraid of them. But he just wanted Eli's safety. "What's wrong?" Tyler asked, he could also smell it, but he didn't understand Nate's tense behavior. "Just do it, now!" the latter raised his voice.

At that moment, the smell of blood was getting near. "Whatever happens never leaves Eli's side," he said, looking at Tyler.

"Why? What is going on, Nate?" Eli asked him. "You'll be safe, don't worry," Nate said, while stroking her hair.

After a five minute drive, "The scent is getting stronger!" said Tyler. Nate prepares himself, "Drop me off, then drive as fast as you can," he told Tyler.

"No! we're not leaving you!" Eli extended her hand, trying to reach Nate. The latter held her hand and said, "Don't worry, I have Chris and Adam with me." "But--".

Nate released her hand, nodded at Tyler and went outside. Tyler saw Nate transformed into his wolf form. He saw Eli's worried face. It hurt him to see how concerned she was about Nate.

But he knows it's not the right time to feel that. Especially now that Nate is risking his life for Eli. While he was busy with his thoughts, Eli shouted, "Tyler!"

Then something fell down on top of the car. Tyler saw that the roof was getting torn off! He told Eli, "Can you come here in front?". Eli reached his hand, then Tyler guided her.

He drove at full speed then stepped on the break. He looked in front, expecting that it would be lying there. But there was nothing, "Stay here," he whispered. Eli just nodded, then he went down.

He couldn't feel it's presence but he could still smell it. "Going somewhere?", it jumped back on top of the car. Looking at Tyler with an evil smile.

His eyes were so red, and his mouth was covered with blood! The man jumped down, he looked at Eli "I'll be back sweetie," then smiled.

He turned his gaze to Tyler, approached him and laughed, "Sorry for the mess, I just had my meal," he said while wiping the blood off his mouth.

Tyler keeps on stepping back, so he can lure him away from Eli. He can't believe he's seeing this, "Hey wolf! First time to see a vampire?". Tyler didn't say anything, he just stared at him.

"You know I hate it when someone doesn't answer my question," in an instant he was already in front of Tyler. Eli was confused while listening to their conversation.

The guy chasing them is a vampire, and he calls Tyler a wolf! This is not making any sense. Why would a vampire chase after me? She told herself. And Tyler...

The vampire was losing its temper seeing how Tyler moved fast. He just kept on dodging his attacks. "Don't you know how to throw a punch?" he told him. Tyler stopped, still looking at the vampire.

Then he charged towards him and punched his left rib. He heard a cracking sound. The vampire flew through the air and landed on a rusty steel that pierce into his body.

He turned around and was about to go back, when he saw two more vampires approaching Eli, who was still inside the car. He jumped in one go and reached the back of his car.

He's now facing the vampires. Like the first one, they also reeked of blood smell. The only difference is that their bodies were bigger. Tyler was busy fighting when he saw the other one sneaking towards the car.

He remembers Eli can run fast. That's why.. "Eli! Run!" he shouted. The moment Eli heard Tyler, she quickly went out of the car and started running.

The vampire thought he was at an advantage since he was choking Tyler from behind. But.. it only gives Tyler an opening to attack him. He grabbed the vampire's head, pulled him in and bent down.

He threw its body on the ground with full force, put his feet on both its shoulders and pulled its head. Then it started to turn into ashes.

He runs after Eli, who's being chased by another vampire. They were already far away, though he could still see them. He jumped again but this time he needed to do it five times.

Eli sure can run fast, he told himself. On his fifth landing, he lifted his right arm, then he threw himself at the vampire and aimed at its head and crashed it.

Like the last one, it turned into ashes. "That was fast," Tyler said. "Do you want something slower?", It was the first vampire he fought. It's already grabbing Eli, and pointing its sharp nails at her neck. "I can slowly slit her throat and then drink her bloo--."

In the blink of an eye, Tyler already stood in front of the vampire. His hand inside its chest, "NEVER.. touch my girl," he whispered. Then he pulled his hand, his vampire training paid off, thanks to his trainers.

He looked at Eli, "Are you alright?" he asked, thinking she was scared, since he could hear her heart beating so fast. "Let's go back" he said, and started walking.

Eli just stood still, then after she wrapped her arms around Tyler, giving him a back hug. He was stunned, he couldn't move. There was this unexplainable electricity coming from her that felt like giving his body a full charge.

He was still enjoying her warmth and her scent when Eli started releasing him. "Thank you!" She said, smiling. Tyler, who's still on cloud nine, didn't know how to respond. "Yes, of course, anytime, you know I'm always here for you."

He couldn't hide his happiness. It's a good thing Eli can't see her right now. Otherwise he might have looked like a crazy guy who couldn't control his smile. Then he took out his phone and dialed Sam's number.

Meanwhile, Nate and Chris were fighting back to back, since Adam got injured. They asked him to stay hidden. "They keep on coming!'' Chris said, through mind link in his wolf form.

''Just keep on crashing them! Never give them an opening!'' said Nate while ripping off a head. Nate saw a vampire approaching Chris in the back. He ran fast and grabbed its arms and pulled it out.

"I told you never give them an opening!" then he saw Tyler's car was coming. But it's not only his, four more cars were escorting behind, and are coming on their way!

The cars stopped in the middle of the road, then the men came out of the car and shifted all together into their werewolf form. The other vampires were shocked to see a pack of werewolves start attacking, biting and ripping the heads of their comrades.

The scared vampires started to withdraw, but there were some who stayed and continued the fight. But they ended up defeated. The fight lasted for an hour.

''I don't want to say this, but thanks for coming back,'' said Nate. ''You should thank Eli, she doesn't want to go unless you're with us,'' Nate turned his head back and saw Eli sleeping,

"I will, later when she wakes up. Did you encounter some on your way?'' Nate asked. "Yeah, some weaklings,'' Tyler said, smiling. "Weaklings huh! Then how will you explain all the blood on your shirt?'' he teases him.

Actually, Eli was not sleeping. She just wanted to know how the conversation would flow between Tyler and Nate, and she was glad to hear that they're not arguing right now.

Then she decided to sleep for real. She needs rest from everything that is happening around her this past few weeks. Their group reached the pack house before noon.

Nate had already called his father and said that they were coming. That's why the pack prepared the rooms and meal for them in advance. He stepped out first and carefully guided Eli. He held her arm and took her to his father.

"Dad, this is Eli.. Eli, this is my dad,'' Nate guided Eli's hand because the girl wanted to shake his father's hand. ''It's nice to finally meet you,'' said the Chief, ''It's nice to meet you too!'' Eli said, smiling.

''What happened to your eyes?'' he asked,"I had a minor accident, but it's just temporary. It will come back after a few treatments.'' The Chief nodded and turned his attention to the person approaching them.

''Dad, this is Tyler Williams, he's a transferee at our school, Tyler meet my Dad.'' Tyler then extended his hand to shake the Chief's, but the latter just kept staring at him.

"Dad are you ok?'' Nate asked his dad who look surprised to see Tyler. "Sorry, nice to meet you,'' the Chief told Tyler and accepted his hand.

"Come on in, let's go inside, the food is getting cold,'' Chief showed them the way to the dining area. After eating their lunch, the men who fought the vampires were sent to the pack doctor.

Nate let Eli and Tyler be alone for the first time, since he needed to talk to his father about Mila. But before he did that, he took a piece of paper and wrote something.

'We need to be careful in our conversation, according to Tyler. Eli can hear up to 300 feet now!'' The Chief looked at Nate, surprised, ''Then we should send them to our vacation house'', he said.

''I guess it's a good idea,'' Nate agreed. ''I will ask the members there to prepare the rooms.'' the chief said. ''I'll go and tell them,'' Nate joined Tyler and Eli. Chief Nicholas watched the three having a chat before he decided to go inside the house.

Tyler, Eli and Nate are back on the road, but this time they're not alone. They have some members of the Golden Pack and some from Tyler's Pack that was sent by Sam.

They reached the vacation house late in the evening. "I'll escort you to your room,'' Nate said to Eli, then turned to Tyler.

''And you can choose any room you want,'' They went upstairs, with Tyler still following them. "Why are you following us?''

''I will choose the room beside Eli,'' he said, looking around. "You can't do that'' the two started arguing again.. "You told me I could choose, so that's my choice.'' Tyler said.

''OK, let's do it like this. Nate put me in a room between yours and Tyler's, problem solve, right?'' Eli suggested. ''NO!'' both of them said in unison. ''OK, then just give me a pillow and a blanket. I'll sleep in the car!''

Tyler and Nate were both worried, thinking that Eli would change again. "Fine, I'll take you to your room,'' said Nate. Finally, Eli is now alone. She lay down on the bed and reached for a pillow, she buried her face there and enjoyed the softness of it.

Now she has time to think about everything that happened. It all started to get weird when she got injected with that drug, she thought.

Then there were changes in her body that were difficult to understand, but eventually she learned to accept them. After that, she saw a real werewolf in the flesh! And now she heard vampires were after her?

She thought werewolves and vampires were just myths, but now here they are, as if they were already part of her daily life!

Then she realized something, 'what if they are the same group who were chasing after me and my parents!' she thought.

'Maybe my blood is special? Like the one in the movies! That's why they wanted it!' she kept talking to herself, 'Oh my gosh! What if they want me to be a tool for some experiment!'

Eli woke up, feeling thirsty, so she went out of her room. Since she's unable to see, she touches the wall to guide her to the stairs. Though she doesn't know where the kitchen is, she'll just try and follow her senses.

Surprisingly, she didn't bump into anything. Then she smells an appetizing aroma, she follows the scent and ends up in the fridge. Eli keeps on sniffing and when she finally finds the one she's looking for, she grabs it.

She could tell that it was in a container, so slowly she opened it, touched it a little and felt that it was liquid, then she lifted it and took it into her mouth and drank it.

"Eli? What are you doing?'' it was Nate. He was stunned to see her drinking fresh blood!
