The lights in the ER room were blinding to Evelyn’s eyes. The soft beeping of the monitor echoed faintly, piercing through her dazed consciousness, caught between physical pain and the unseen wounds in her heart. A middle-aged female doctor with neatly tied hair and a calm demeanor stepped into the room. She held a medical file in her hand and approached the side of Evelyn’s bed. “Evelyn?” she called softly.
