CHAPTER SEVENTEEN Vicente felt more at home now that he had gotten to the southeast side. It was a rough neighborhood, the roughest, and that made Vicente feel safer. The street thugs he could handle. It was the cops he worried about. But cops didn’t come here much. No one to stop him from what he needed to do. Still, he kept sharp. He might have been followed, and if he hadn’t been followed, he still had to keep alert for the wolves that hunted in these parts. Just as he made it to Erasmo’s old building, he saw a Jeep pulling away down the street. Too nice and too new for this part of town. Maybe a process server or a parole officer.
