CHAPTER TWENTY By the time Alexa got back to the ranch, it was pitch dark. A new moon cast no rays and other than a few distant lights in the Carpenter trailer and some neighbors further off, the desert lay swathed in darkness. The lone porch light Alexa always kept burning looked like a star that had lost its galaxy. Other than the porch light, no lights shone in the house. It looked like Stacy had listened and stayed at her parents’ trailer. As Alexa got out of her Jeep into the warm Arizona night, she c****d an ear. No sounds of partying over at the Carpenter trailer.
