Chapter 2

232 Words
Lina walked out of the mansion without looking back. The door closed behind her with a soft click… but to her, it sounded like the end of her entire world. Her chest tightened as she stepped into the cold night air. She had nowhere to go. No one to run to. Her hand instinctively rested on her stomach. A tear slipped down her cheek. “I’ll protect you,” she whispered softly. “Even if I have to do it alone.” Behind her, inside the mansion— Ethan stood by the window, watching her leave. His expression remained cold. But for a brief second… Something flickered in his eyes. Annoyance? Or something else? He turned away sharply. “It’s over,” he muttered. But for some reason… The house suddenly felt too quiet. The next morning, Lina sat in a small clinic, nervously gripping the edge of her seat. The doctor smiled gently. “Congratulations, Mrs. Cole. You’re six weeks pregnant.” The words hit her like a wave. Six weeks. Tears filled her eyes again—but this time, they weren’t only pain. They were mixed with something else. Fear. Hope. Loneliness. “Will the father be joining you?” the doctor asked. Lina forced a small smile. “No… it’s just me.” She walked out of the clinic holding the report tightly. This child… Would be her strength.
