The Last Keeper
The blank book felt warm in Elian's hands.
Its pages were empty except for a single line:
"The ending of this story has not yet been written."
He looked up at the young girl.
"You wrote this?"
Luma smiled.
"No."
"You will."
Elian frowned.
"I've never written a book."
Luma gently closed the cover.
"Every choice you make writes one."

The lantern at the center of the lighthouse burned a little brighter.
Its light spread across the shelves.
Books that had been covered in dust slowly began to shine.
Some remained unfinished.
Others gained a few more lines.
The Author watched in silence.
"You understand my purpose now," he said.
"I guarded the beginning of every story."
He looked toward Luma.
"And she guards every ending."
