Gideon's papers were done by lunchtime. He decided to stay back at school. He had asked Annabelle when Yve would be done with hers and she had told him her last test was immediately after lunch. He played football the whole time as he waited and then hit the changing rooms to take a shower.
He buttoned up his shirt, leaving the first two buttons undone just like he liked it and then checked the time on his phone. Yap, it was go time. He had stayed away from her just like she had asked but it had become unbearable. He needed to know why she was acting this way. Maybe he should have done this before accepting to leave her. This time he wasn't going to be so demanding like how he had been. Maybe that's what made her angry. Earning him a smack on his cheek. To be honest it hadn't hurt him at all. Only stung alittle. And in a weird way, he had loved it.
He saw how shocked she was when her palm landed on his face and how sorry she looked after. She hadn't done it on purpose. But he deserved it for pestering her.
He leaned on the wall by the doorway of the classroom and watched as people got out of the room until his eyes landed on Yve. She looked flourishing as always. She had let her hair fall and it looked spectacular. He his run through it. He loved it. "Can l talk to you?" he spoke as calmly as he could master. But her silence made him add,"please."
She nodded. He couldn't help the broad smile plastering on his face and she smiled back but hers didn't her eyes. He held out his hand and she placed hers in it. Two days of not being close felt like an eternity.
They walked in silence up to the parking lot. Enjoying each other's closeness. They should be like that more. They walked up to his car. "Let's talk in here." he said opening the car door for her.
She looked wrying at him and then he remembered what happened the last time he mentioned talking to her. The hell... "Don't worry, not that kind of talking." She clambered into the car and he closed the door. Moving round it, he climbed in too and sat in the driver's seat.
"How have you been?" he asked.
"Good." she replied. "And you?" she looked up at him.
"I've been thinking about you." He watched as she tried to hide a smile and then it vanished.
"Am pretty sure Nandera has been good company.
When would she understand that Nandera is just a friend. Nothing more. He extended closer to her and pushed her hair behind her ear earning her attention once more. "I like what you did to it. It's fantastic." he wasn't going to tell her what she already knew.
"Nandera's is better."
"Don't belittle yourself Yve." He didn't want to hear her comparing herself to Nandera or any other person. She was better than them all. He wanted her to know that. "Is it because of Nandera? You didn't want to see me again because of her?"
She shook her head.
"Then why Yve?" all this time he thought it was either because of Nandera or what they did in the library. But he was tired of assuming he needed her to tell him herself.
"You left me there Gideon." her lips were pouty and tears threatened to spill. "You walked away. I felt used."
Hell! He wanted to be with her. But thought she needed time alone to recover. Her reactions at that time were for a first timer. He thought he had taken it to far. "Am sorry Yve. I just thought you needed... space. I didn't mean to make you feel used please forgive me."
He saw her calm down. "Are you sure?"
He knew his words alone weren't enough to make her feel better. But he would make it up to her. "Yes baby." the pad of his thumb brushed at her cheek and he saw her close her eyes at the sensation. "Maybe we could go for ice cream or anything you would like. And get to talk about ourselves."
"Sounds great." She smiled.
He loved the feeling he got when he saw her smile. It had become the key that lifted the lock of his heart.
"Let me first call Wamono and tell him not to pick me up."
"Who is he to you?"
"His our family driver."
"Oh."
Her conversation with Wamono was brief and straight to the point. He told her he was already on his way there but it was ok if she had changed her mind.
"Where should we go?" she asked Gideon on hanging up.
"You choose." Any where she wanted was fine with him. As long as they were together.
"Am really not sure where. Am just happy were are together."
"Me two." he was happy she was happy to be with him. "How about we go to my place?" he immediately regretted saying it. He didn't want to rush her. Even though that wasn't why she had wanted him to stay away from her. It may become the next reason. "Never mind, let's just go for ice cream."
"No, let's go to your place."
"Really?"
"If that's what you want?"
Of course he wanted her to go with him their. When Gideon started his car, Nince Henry's Killer Portion filled the air and he saw her relax at the sound of it.
"You like it too." he asked.
"I. Love. It."
He smiled. She too had become his killer portion.
"Where is your house located?" she asked when they got on the road.
"Twenty minutes from here." he replied.
"Oh. Do you leave with your parents?"
"I stay alone." he said.
"Why?"
"It just happened." He hated talking about himself so he turned the tables. "Do you stay with your parents?"
"Yah." she smiled and her knew right away that she had a good bond with them.
"Tell me about you."
He was curious to know about her. She told him that she grew up in a family of five; her mother and father, her aunt and cousin. But her aunt and cousin had moved to Malawi and she would be spending the holidays with them. Which meant he wouldn't see her for a month. He didn't like the idea.
Yve looked so happy to share with him this information. And it was lovely to see her narrate enthusiastically. Judging from all he told her, she had had it easy and lovely from childhood. He was happy she had the perfect family every child wished for. His mother had tried to make it up to him for not having a dad and he appreciated her efforts. She was more than enough for him. She was too perfect for this world. Maybe that's why she left too soon.
He smiled when she looked awe-struck on seeing the mansion "You have all this place to your self?"
"Yah."
"It's...more than beautiful."
That was his reaction the first time he saw it too. "Gideon dear, this will be our new home." he still remembered his mother's sweet voice say. They had moved here when he was seven years old. He was so happy. Their old house too was beautiful but smaller. Well, they were only two it was enough.
They walked to the elegant front door which had gray wood arch and alternating wood pattern. "Where do your parents live Gideon?" she asked once they were in the living room.
"My mom died." he said and he saw her look regretful. "Don't worry l got over it." he added and she relaxed a bit.
"What of your dad?" Her voice was calmer as she eyed the pictures that hang on the walls.
"I don't know him." he walked to the kitchen and she followed. "Would you like a chocolate smoothie?" he opened the fridge.
"Please." she answered.
He placed the smoothie on the counter and she thanked him before bringing the straw to her lips. Her eyes shut as she sucked the drink into her mouth as if to capture the tastiness in her mind. He smiled. Ever since they had been together, he was full glee.
"Wow. It's so good. Who made it?"
"Nalubega. She's the house helper."
"You should keep her. She's good."
"Really! I will have her make one of those every day such that you come by." They smiled. Every thing just felt perfect. Them, getting to know each other. It was marvelous. "Thanks for coming Yve."
"Thanks for inviting me." she drunk on her drink again and he felt himself grow needy just by looking at her.
"Let's go for a swim."
"You also have a swimming pool."
"Yah." he was already removing his shirt and she blushed on seeing his bare chest.
"I don't have a swimsuit." She looked away. Obviously embarrassed by his lack of shame. But he didn't have to be shy. He knew his body was perfect.
"You can wear mine."
"Don't tell me you have a bikini." she smirked at him.
"What if l do?" he was loving the humor.
"I give up." she put her hands up.
"Come let's go get in into one of my bikins." he holding her hand and they headed for the stairs.
The indoor swimming area was built with glass walls. Showcasing the eventide. Unlike the other parts of the house, the flooring was made of wood. The pool was sleek, modern designed allowing them to focus on the natural beauty stretching out in every direction.
He had given her a white t-shirt and briefs to wear. She had circumnavigated his room like a detective the moment he let her in. He was sure she knew everything inside it by now.
She dipped her feet over the edge and into the water. She wiggled her toes in the cool water, a smile flashing on her face.
Gideon's hands moved to his trousers, removing the the belt and he glanced at her, catching her staring at him.
He unbuttoned his pants and she forced herself not to stare but it was in vain. She loved the way he bent gracefully and pulled the pants off his legs. The fabric of his shorts was tight against his body and she felt pressure building up in her tummy.
He jumped into the water causing some of it to splash on her.
She saw his long body swimming under the clear water and he returned to the spot where she was. He popped his head back up above the surface and urged her to come in the water. Drops of water dropped from his dreadlocks making him look fascinating. His hands moved to her waist, he lifted her and pulled her into the it. The water was cool and felt amazing on her hot skin. The water was reaching up to her shoulders.
"Do you have a job?" Yve asked when he let go of her.
"No Yve." He said, getting on his back and floating on the water.
"So you have foster parents."
"No."
"Well then who takes care of you?"
He didn't need any one to do that. "I take care of myself."
"Without a job? And this big house."
"My uncle pays the bills." he rolled his eyes.
"Oh. Why doesn't he stay here?"
"He has his condo. And am ok with staying alone." They stayed in silence for a second. They had done alot of talking today. They were nolonger strangers.
"Do you have plans for the holiday?" Yve got back on her feet, moving her hands back and forth.
"I don't make plans Yve. I face things as they are." he to got up.
"Oh." she said and splashed at him
Before he could recover from it, she splashed at his again and giggled.
"Am coming for you Yve." he said menacingly and shook his wet head. He lurched for her but she was quick to swim away. He chased her in the water and managed to catch up, holding her by her shoulders. She tried to break his contact but couldn't. They went under the water, looking at each other.
He looked more fanciable than he always is. The water looked like it had sparks due to the refraction of the light. Adding more beauty to him. Oh Gideon... she wanted to kiss him.
