CHAPTER 55: After Hours

  I walk out of Harlow at seven fifteen.   Not because the day ended... because I decided it had, which is different, and which is a luxury I have not had in a previous job and intend to use with full appreciation.   The rain has stopped and London is doing its post rain thing, all clean light and reflective pavements and the specific smell of a city that just got washed. I stand on the pavement outside the building for a moment and breathe it in.   Good day.   Genuinely, completely, thoroughly good day.   Rhys texts as I start walking.   Rhys: Home or out?   Me: Out. Somewhere dark and good. I need to debrief.   Rhys: Ten minutes.
