4. Lucas Breakdown The training field was empty now. The moon hung heavy overhead, casting silver light on the worn dirt where warriors had once sparred. Luca stood in the middle of it, shirt soaked in sweat, hands bleeding from hitting the post too many times. He couldn’t breathe. Selene had always looked at him like he was her whole world. Until today. Now, she looked at him like he was a stranger. A traitor. An insect beneath her boot. And the worst part? She was right. He sank to his knees, fists trembling, head bowed. His wolf howled inside him—furious, restless, panicking. We lost her. We broke the bond. We destroyed her. He hadn’t meant for it to go that far. Amara was a mistake—a selfish moment, an ego trip. He thought Selene would never find out. He thought she would forgive him, because she always had before. But the way she looked at him now… She didn’t want him back. She didn’t want him at all. Not even his wolf could reach her. And then there was him. Alpha Darius. His father. Luca’s rage flared again. He had seen the way Selene looked at him—like he mattered, like he was real. She never looked at Luca that way, not even when they were still mated. He slammed his fist into the ground with a growl. “She’s using him. She has to be.” But even he didn’t believe it. His father didn’t let people close. He ruled with distance. Cold logic. Detachment. But Selene... she had lit something in him. Something dark. Something possessive. And Luca had the sinking feeling that, for once, his father wouldn’t let go. 5.Into The Wolf Den Selene’s footsteps echoed down the stone corridor as she climbed the stairs to the Alpha’s wing. The packhouse was silent at this hour, but she could feel eyes on her—ancient walls bearing witness to every step she took. She didn’t knock. The door opened before she reached it. Darius stood there, shadowed by the low light of a single lantern. Shirtless. His bare chest scarred and powerful, a silent map of the wars he’d survived. He didn’t speak. Neither did she. He stepped aside. She walked in. The room smelled like cedar, smoke, and something darker—him. Selene stood in the center, spine straight, heart pounding. "You sent for me." Darius closed the door, locking it with a click that felt like the start of something irreversible. “I did.” Her eyes flicked to his. “What do you want from me?” He took a slow step forward. “You came to me first, little wolf. The better question is—what you want.” “I want control,” she said, chin high. “I want to forget what he did. I want him to suffer. And I want to never feel that kind of pain again.” Darius circled her, like a predator studying his prey—not with cruelty, but calculation. Admiration. Hunger. “And you think I’m the cure for all of that?” “I think,” she said carefully, “you’re the only male in this pack strong enough to match me.” A low sound escaped him. Not quite a laugh. Not quite a growl. He moved behind her, close enough that his breath brushed the back of her neck. “Careful, Selene. Once I take something, I don’t give it back.” She turned to face him. “I’m not asking you to be gentle. I’m asking you to see me—not as your son’s castoff, but as the woman who could burn this entire pack down.” His eyes darkened. “I see you.” And then—finally—he touched her. Just a hand at her waist. Nothing more. But it was enough. Every nerve in her body lit up like fire. She didn’t pull away. She leaned in. “You’re not what I expected,” he said lowly. “Neither are you.” Silence stretched between them—hot, charged, undeniable. Then he spoke again. “You can stay here. In my wing. As long as you want.” Her brow lifted. “So I’m your... what? Pet? Plaything?” His gaze pinned her in place. “No. You’re mine.” 6. The Ripple Effect By morning, the news had spread like wildfire. Selene Vale was no longer just the ex-mate of the Alpha’s son. She now lived in the Alpha’s private wing. And the pack had thoughts. Whispers clung to corners of the packhouse like smoke. Warriors paused mid-swing during training. Elders exchanged tight-lipped glances. She-wolves who once pitied Selene now looked at her with a mix of envy, curiosity—and fear. “She moved in with the Alpha? Just like that?” “She’s got some nerve. First the son, now the father?” “She’s dangerous. Or brilliant. Maybe both.” “What does this mean for us?” --- Selene walked into the dining hall as she always had—head high, steps sure—but now, every eye followed her. Some with admiration. Others with disdain. And more than a few with naked jealousy. She wore black. Sleek. Fitted. Subtle, but powerful. Not mourning. Not mourning anything anymore. She passed Luca without a glance. His hand clenched around his fork, jaw tight, barely breathing. Beside him, Amara’s smug expression faltered. Selene took her seat—at the Alpha’s table. Uninvited. Unapologetic. A long moment passed. Then Darius entered. The air shifted instantly. Tension coiled like a drawn bow. He scanned the hall, his gaze landing on her, and without hesitation, crossed the room... and sat beside her. Not across. Beside. Like a claim. No words passed between them. He didn’t need to say it. She didn’t need to ask. The message was clear to everyone: She is not your gossip. She is not your pity. She is not your warning. She is mine. --- Elsewhere in the Pack In a darker corner of the compound, three ranked wolves spoke in hushed tones. “She’s playing him. She’ll ruin him.” “Or she’s exactly what this pack needs. Someone untouchable.” “He’s never taken another mate since his Luna left. Not once. And now he brings her into his home?” “It’s not just power anymore. This is personal.” --- Later that night, Selene stood on the balcony of the Alpha’s wing, listening to the wind carry murmurs through the trees. She felt the weight of their stares even through stone walls. Let them talk. Let them wonder. Because none of them knew the truth: This wasn’t about revenge anymore. It was about awakening something bigger— In her. In him. In the entire pack. 7. The Ghost In The Room Darius rarely slept. That night, he stood alone in his study, back to the fire, a glass of whiskey untouched in his hand. Shadows flickered across his face, dancing over the old scars that told stories no one dared ask about. But one scar burned hotter than the rest. Her name was Lyra. His Luna. His once. --- Five Years Ago — Flashback The moon hung full and low above the northern cliffs, casting silver light over the wild sea below. Darius stood beside Lyra, her hand curled around his arm, her laughter bright and effortless. She was the only one who had ever dared to tease him. “You’re far too serious for a man with that jaw,” she’d say, brushing his hair back like he was just a male—not an Alpha, not a legend, just hers. He had been a different man with her. Warmer. Quicker to smile. Slower to anger. But even then, the power beneath the surface waited like a sleeping beast. Lyra had kept him tethered. Until she untied the knot herself. He never understood why. One morning, she was gone—without a note, without a goodbye. “I was never meant to stay,” she’d written in a letter weeks later. “You were too much for me, Darius. Too wild. Too strong. I would’ve drowned in you.” She chose solitude over him. He never chased her. He never begged. But from that moment on, he’d buried every part of himself that could be soft. Until Selene. --- Present Day The knock at the door jolted him from the memory. He turned, frowning. Malric entered, uncharacteristically hesitant. “Alpha. You need to see this.” He handed over a scroll—sealed in old wax, bearing a sigil Darius hadn’t seen in years. Lyra’s family crest. Darius’s jaw tightened as he broke the seal. Inside: a formal request. A visit. From Lyra herself. She was returning to the territory. And she wanted a meeting. His heart didn’t race. It thundered. --- Down the hall, Selene stirred in her room, unaware of the storm brewing behind the Alpha’s silver eyes.
