Chapter 3

Brooklynne’s POV After making sure Luna Cassidy was actually gone, I turned around and sat down on the bench along the drive way path and waited for Mia to make her way out of the house. What seemed like an eternity later, Mia finally walked out of the house holding her phone and an iced coffee. “Took you long enough, eh princess?” I mocked. “Yeah yeah, well we can’t all be perfect. Speaking of, how come you’re not already out on the field man-handling some poor boy already?” She joked back. I rolled my eyes and pointed to the movers. “Your mom asked me to keep an eye on the movers and unpack the boys things as they come. I already have a full day ahead at the bakery, so I guess I’m skipping training today. Gonna head this up and head to the shops. Stop by for lunch later though?” I asked. Maybe I can sucker her out of some free labor at the bakery if I get her there for lunch. It’s worth a shot. “Oh yes, of course. How ever will the boys make do if there’s no one here to do every little thing for them?!” Mia fake gasped and smacked her hands to her face, pretending to be shocked by the idea. I laughed her off, but I knew what she actually meant. Mia has always felt like her mom favored Connor over her and her other sibling Jessica. While Mia would never say it to Luna Cassidy’s face, I know she slightly resents her for it. “Exactly! Glad you understand. Now off we go. You, to training. Me, into the unknown.” We both laughed and went out separate ways. I headed back inside the pack house and slowly made my way up the stairs, careful not to bump any of the movers. Once I made it back to the third floor I headed straight towards the pile of boxes that waited for me. After unlocking the two doors, I quickly started separating the boxes and sliding them into the rooms they were meant for. After the last set of movers came and sat down their boxes, I decided to do the rooms one at a time. I started with Beta Joshua’s room. Unlike Alpha Conner’s, Beta Joshua’s room was clumped down here at this end of the hall with the rest of us. Right beside Martin. I walked into the room and went to the sliding glass doors that lead out to the balcony. All of the rooms on the second and third floors have them. I pushed all the curtains aside and unlocked the windows before sliding the doors open, letting in some much needed fresh air. Hopefully that helps with the staleness in the room. I quickly returned back to the boxes and started peeling the tape off the tops then sliding them to their designated spots in the room. Dishes to the miniature kitchen. Books to the living room. Clothes to the closet. By the time the sun was making its way into the sky I had done unpacked all of the boxes and had them broken down, lying in a pile by the door. I left a note on the island for Sandy, the pack’s head house keeper, to get food and drinks to stock the kitchen and to make the bed. After that, I headed out of the hall with the stack of empty boxes and towards Alpha Conners room. I put the boxes down on the floor outside of Alpha Connor’s room and made my way inside. Alpha Connor had a lot less than Beta Joshua. Out of all the boxes the pack movers had brought up, only a handful were the Alphas. I dove right in. I started peeling the tape off of the boxes and instantly my wolf went on high alert again. ‘What now Ivy?’ I asked her. ‘It’s that smell again. It smells so good. I know it from somewhere.’ Deciding to humor her, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in. There it is. A very faint smell of fresh apple pie and rain. ‘You’re right, I know that smell from somewhere, it’s to faint to know from where’ I told her. I could tell how she was pacing back and forth in my mind that she wasn’t going to let this go, but for now, there’s nothing I could do. He had no dishes or appliances. No keep sakes. Just a few boxes of clothes and a few more boxes filled with books. I put all of his clothes away, then I stacked all of his books on the shelf in his den. I opened the curtains and windows, wrote another note for Ms. Sandy, picked up the discarded boxes on the floor and headed out of his room. Carrying all of the boxes, I made my way down stairs and out of the pack house. I continued on down the path and to the dumpsters where I tossed in the boxes. The sun is all the way up now, which means Mia should be done with training. I turn towards the training field and head that way. It’s about a 15 minute walk through the woods from the pack house to the field that we train in. It always seems longer when you’re walking it alone though. I start walking a little faster and finally I hear it. The sound of skin smacking skin and tired breaths. I exit the woods and make my way into the clearing, scanning the crowd and listening for Mia’s voice. It’s doesn’t take me long before I hear her. “Mia, over here!” I call out. She snaps her head up and looks for me so i start walking towards her. “I figured I would walk you back. Breakfast at the pack house? Or the diner?” I asked as I got closer. The pack lands didn’t have a diner, but if we went about 30 minutes outside of our territory, there was a nice little family owned diner ran by humans. A lot of us younger wolves frequented there. “Pack house. Definitely. Do you smell me? No way I’m going to the diner like this. Plus, it’s already a super late start. By the time we drive into town, it’ll be time for brunch. And last time we had brunch, Martin had to come get us.” She giggled at the memory. I didn’t have a sister, and Mia was the closest thing to that I would probably ever have. We did almost everything together, including bad choices and day drinking. Oops. She wasn’t wrong though. Last time we were there for brunch, Mia and I had way too many mimosas. You know how many mimosas it takes to get a werewolf drunk? Way too many. “Good call, I barely survived that last hangover, let’s not create another one.” I linked my arm in hers and we headed back to the pack house. The walk felt much faster on the trip back, and before I knew it, we were climbing the steps to the pack house. “I’m going to take a quick shower real fast. Meet you in the dining hall in 20?” Mia asked as we entered the house. “You got it. I need to freshen up too!” I agreed, nodding my head as we made our way up to our rooms. “You’re telling me…” Mia sniffed the air in my direction and made a stink face before laughing and shutting her bedroom door behind her. That’s why I loved her so much. Opening my bedroom door, I made my way in and closed it behind me. I hurried to the shower, turned the water on and hopped in. Not needing to shave or anything I quickly washed my self down every where, rinsed off and got out. After drying off I threw my towel into the basket in the corner of my bathroom and went to my dresser to get dressed.
