Chapter Four

1678 Words
I had become alert, as goosebumps spread throughout my body. By the time I turned back to check again, I could see someone walking behind me. His face was covered with a hoodie, as he was wearing almost the same thing I was. I could tell he was an alpha, not only because of the aura, but because of the growling sounds his wolf made. At some point, I felt like I was overthinking, and maybe he wasn't following me. But, I needed to convince myself more than anyone, so I turned towards the right, and he followed me. I changed my direction about three times more, and he still trailed behind me. I could feel his presence, and hear his footsteps approaching me. The distance between us was becoming smaller and smaller. My stomach swerved. Was he the one sending me those letters? The atmosphere was freezing, yet my palms were sweaty. I pulled out my phone, and called Lucas, but he didn't answer. I was stunned, because Lucas had never done this before. "Lucas, please pick up" I cried out. My palms were still shivering, while I dialed the number continually. Then I heard the stranger burst into a weird laugh. His laugh echoed in the lonely alley. He sounded like he was enjoying his chase, because if he wanted to he could have grabbed me already. I could see his shadow, and I could tell that he was twice my size. I was furious and weak at the same time. A feeling that I hadn't experienced for a long time. My adrenaline rush kicked in, and I began to run for my life, while typing a message to Lucas. I lost focus on the road, and before I could bring my senses back, I bumped into something hard. I felt a vibration on my face, before my phone slipped away from my hand. I felt strong arms pinned on my waist, just before I could crash to the ground. Steadily, I raised my head to look up. I struggled to stand on my feet, as my legs began to feel weak when my eyes met with those of Dregon. I turned to look behind me, and the stalker was gone. I felt relieved, but another problem was in front of me in the form of Alpha Dregon. I tried to push him away, but he wrapped his hands around my wrist before he pulled me closer to him. He flew my hands to his shoulder, and wrapped his hands around my waist. He looked into my eyes, as if searching for something. I'm sure the fear in my eyes was visible. He frowned before he eventually released me from his grip. I was immediately reminded of my past, of how much I fought to hold backmypain, my fear and my tears. He lifted my chin, wiping away the little drop of tear that escaped from my eyes. "What happened?" His voice was consoling yet frightening. "Nothing" I shook my head, knowing fully well that things would only escalate if I told him. "Thank you for helping me, Alpha. But, please pardon me. I have to go now". I attempted to pick up my phone, but his Beta beat me to it. I folded my fist, as I watched him hand the phone over this alpha. Dregon took a quick glance at it, and turned to this beta, who only nodded and left. Dregon handed the phone over to me. The screen was completely shattered, but the text I was typing to Lucas was still very visible. And I am very sure Alpha Dregon has read it. Yet, he didn't say anything to me. His Beta later returned with Dregon's car. He came out of the driver's seat, opening the door for Alpha Dregon, ushering him into the car. Dregon glanced at me, and smiled. "Get in. I am going to take you home", he told me. "I'll be alright. You don't have to worry about me", I rejected his offer. The smile on his face quickly faded as he narrowed his eyes, piercing mine with a stunned look. I swallowed hard, and got into the car immediately. I should have known that was not a request but an order from him. He was the Alpha King, and obviously wasn't used to hearing the word "No". Plus, I had no choice. The stalker was still out there, and I had no idea what he wanted to do to me. Dregon, on the other hand, might be the devil himself, but I hadn't heard any rumors of him killing women. The devil, you know, is far better than the angel you don't know. "Tell him your address, Zara " he instructed me. I widened my eyes in shock. The only person that knew my real name at the club was Lucas. I began to wonder how much Lucas had told Dregon about me. I doubt he has told Dorian the complete truth about me, he knows the consequences. Lucas still needed me. I took a deep breath, calming myself down. "Relax Zara, if Dregon knew the truth, he wouldn't be taking you home, rather he would be sending you to hell", I reminded myself. "Zara!" He snapped his fingers. I quickly looked in his direction. "Your address," he insisted. I nodded, as I called my address out to him. Now, the stalker knows my address. I would have to move anyway, so there was no point hiding it. I was already feeling exhausted, remembering that I would have to move. How long would I have to continue running? "Let's go", he instructed his Beta. "Yes Alpha", his Beta started the engine of the car. I could feel Dregon's eyes on me. I lowered my head, refusing to look at him. All I wanted to do was run back to Raven. I would be happier being in her presence, but doing that would risk both of our lives. We can only be reunited when I sort out the issues I am facing. A small curtain soon separated the front seat from the back. I felt like the car shrinked, and suddenly it wasn't enough for Dregon and I. There was a little distance between us, but it wasn't enough. He was still too close for my comfort. I felt cold suddenly. I was shivering and he noticed it. "Turn Off the AC”, he ordered his Beta, without asking me anything. He took off his jacket, and placed it over my shoulder. "But…" I tried to protest but he looked at me and I became silent. "Zara, please look at me," he insisted. Reluctantly, I raised my head. I felt a thrilling fusion when I heard his wolf call out to me. He moved closer to me, closing the gap between us, as he tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ear. My heart pounded against my chest, as I shut my eyes waiting for him to remove his hand, but it remained there, caressing my earlobe. I would not deny that I enjoyed it. But, the fear I had refused to go away. At least the coldness I felt had vanished', but was replaced by an endangering heat. "Do you still feel cold?" he questioned. "No" "Is there something you would like to tell me?" "Something like?" I found it hard to breathe. Has he found out the truth about me? I strained myself, forcing myself to think of a good answer to his question, or at least change the topic. "I thought you had an important meeting with the other Alphas? What made you come back?" I decided to change the topic. "I had forgotten to put a mark on something that belongs to me, that's still here. And because of that, some fools have started to chase it. "But you're meeting?" "That meeting isn't as important as what I left. Aren't you going to ask what it is?". I swallowed hard, before I replied. "I really hope you weren't referring to a person, because you can never own a person. You can't just claim someone else as your property, especially without their knowledge. That's wickedness." "Wicked?" Dregon narrowed his eyes. The way he replied, made me believe that word was strange to him, like it didn't exist in his dictionary. "Yes, all the men who visit the club obviously think they own me or any woman there, like we are an item on the market. I know that our job isn't one to be proud of, but we don't find it fun either. We only do it to earn a living, and survive. If they really have good intentions, and are genuinely concerned about having us, then they need to make an effort". I replied. Dregon became silent, and just stared at me, as if wondering what I was about to say next. "But, if you weren't referring to a person, but an actual object. Then, I hope you get it, whatever it is, Alpha. And I hope no one takes it from you", I gave off a faint smile. "I'm sorry I spoke too much" I apologized when his stare began to frighten me. Thankfully, we had arrived in front of my apartment. He got out of the car, and opened the door on my side. I smiled at myself. "Thank you for bringing me home, Alpha" I said, getting up in a hurry. I had already taken two steps when Dregon stopped me, coming out of the car. He came after me, and tapped me on the shoulder. "Alpha" I was stunned. He took out his wallet, took out a card, and handed it to me. "Please call me whenever you are in trouble or feel unsafe. I will always show up right away. It doesn't matter where you are, or what time it is" he asked. This time it didn't sound like an order. The look of shock in his Beta's eyes made me believe this wasn't something Dregon does.
