She could feel the heat of the fire as it licked her skin, the smell of burning flesh permeated the air. Her throat hurt from inhaling too much smoke, her eyes burned but she plowed through the fire. Her ears were ringing and she kept blinking to clear her vision. "Aliyah," she called out. A shrill scream sounded, echoing over and over in her head. Amina jolted awake in bed and looked frantically around the room, her chest heaved up and down as she tried to force air into her lungs, a trickle of sweat ran down her back. It was just a dream, she sighed. She got off the bed and traipsed into the kitchen, opened the fridge and took out a bottle of water.
