~ ~MYRA I couldn't help but laugh at Rhys's joke. He was telling me about his childhood and how he met Damien, and I was finding it hard to believe that he could be this carefree. The way his eyes brightened whenever he talked about his childhood made him seem like a completely different person. He never mentioned his parents, though, and I didn't ask. He might not be comfortable talking about them, and I didn't want to push him. We were actually on our first date, although everyone else was there too. We were at the park, surrounded by fresh air, a gentle breeze, and the soft sounds of people chatting around us. It felt so natural. I felt like I was having one of the best moments of my life, and the fact that I was spending it with Rhys made it even better. I stared at him. I couldn't look away. He was smiling as he talked, and God, he looked so handsome with that boyish smile. I was so lost in staring at him that I didn't even realize I had stopped listening to what he was saying. Gosh. He must think I'm creepy. Before I could look away, he leaned closer and placed a chaste kiss on my lips. That's when I realized just how long I'd been staring at him. I immediately blushed. "I love it when you stare at me, baby girl," he said, and my cheeks grew even warmer. "I love our first date," I said, suddenly becoming very interested in my nails. At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to avoid his gaze. He gently placed his hand under my chin and tilted my face up until I was looking at him. My eyes met his dark ones, and I was drawn in immediately. "Me too. And you're going to love the second one even more," he said, gently moving my hair away so he could get a better look at my face. "You look so cute. I could almost eat you up." "You too. You're so hot," I managed to say. If I said everything I was actually thinking, he might start thinking I was creepy. Dang it. Get a hold of yourself, Myra. "I know," he said confidently. I rolled my eyes. "So much ego," I said jokingly. He simply smiled at me. "Let's get ice cream." He stood up, and I took his hand as we walked away together. ....................... ~RILEY I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I looked way too corporate. I grabbed my bag and took one last look at myself before heading out for my interview. I left my apartment and made my way toward the bus stop. I had barely gotten there when my phone started ringing. I glanced at the caller ID before picking up. "What's up, baby girl?" I said, teasing Myra. Em had already told me everything that happened between her and Rhys, so I couldn't resist messing with her. "Well, hello to you too," she replied. I laughed. "Don't you like the nickname?" "I'm going to hang up if you don't stop right now," she threatened. I couldn't help but laugh loudly. A few people around me turned to stare awkwardly, and I simply smiled at them. "Okay, okay. I'll stop." "I just wanted to make sure you're ready for your interview," she said. "If I'm not, what are you going to do about it?" I teased. She sighed. "I'm hanging up now." "At least tell me good luck." "Good luck, bitch." "Love you, chubby." "f**k you." She hung up. I stared at my phone for a second before putting it back into my bag, a small smile tugging at my lips. Somehow, my mood felt a little lighter. ....................... When I arrived at Denton Law Firm, I clenched my fists and took a deep breath before walking inside. The place looked exactly like what I'd expected from a prestigious law firm-professional, intimidating, and way too fancy for my liking. Then I spotted Hayden. He was sitting there with his clingy little girlfriend. The moment he saw me, he smiled. I rolled my eyes and looked away. One minute later, my name was called. I walked inside the interview room, only to freeze when I saw the man sitting across from me. The same guy I'd been rude to yesterday. He looked completely different today. Professional. Calm. Intimidating. I scoffed internally and closed my eyes for a second before opening them again, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. There was no way. He was sitting there with two other people-a woman and a man-both of whom looked just as serious. Here comes my downfall. Why is he here? Why was I rude to him? He's not going to recruit me. Fine. At least I won't have to see Hayden's face again. But I studied day and night for this. God, please save me. "Mrs. Weston," he said, finally lifting his gaze from the file in his hands. His eyes met mine. "Yes?" "Take a seat." He gestured toward the chair opposite them. I sat down, trying my best to remain calm. They began asking me questions, and I answered each one as clearly and confidently as I could. Surprisingly, I managed to get through the entire interview without embarrassing myself. When it finally ended, I walked out feeling uncertain. There was no way I could tell whether I'd gotten the job. Especially after what happened yesterday. I couldn't believe I'd been rude to Elijah Denton. I sighed and sat down, staring at the file in my hands. "Riley, how was the interview?" I heard Hayden's voice and immediately looked up. Who told him he could speak to me? "I don't think that's any of your business," I said coldly. His expression fell. "Riley, look... I'm sorry. Please, just hear me out." Why did he have to look so pitiful and handsome at the same time? What's wrong with me? "I don't have time for you. We broke up, so f**k off," I said, standing up and walking away. I barely took two steps before he grabbed my arm. I immediately glared at his hand. He seemed to realize what he'd done and quickly let go, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "You forgot your bag," he said. I looked down. Damn it. I grabbed my bag from him without saying another word and walked away. ....................... Later that night... I walked to the convenience store near my apartment. I was out of groceries and needed to pick up a few things. I was still in my pajamas, and honestly, I didn't care. Who the f**k cares if I looked good or not? I grabbed everything I needed, paid at the counter, and headed toward the exit. Then I saw him. Mr. Denton. He was walking into the store. I immediately turned around and hurried back inside, hiding behind one of the shelves. What the hell was he doing here? But then I frowned. Why was I hiding? I wasn't doing anything wrong. I was being ridiculous. I took a deep breath and decided to leave. I started walking backward toward the exit, trying to avoid his line of sight. Big mistake. I bumped into someone. "I'm so, so sorry," I blurted out. I turned around. And there he was. Mr. Denton was staring down at me with an amused expression. "Didn't know Mrs. Weston was capable of saying sorry," he said I gave him an awkward smile. Of course. Just my luck. What do you think is going to happen.... Comment and follow me....
