~ MYRA
“Uhm, Mum, we were just trying to—” I struggled to find the right words, but my mum cut me off immediately.
“No need to lie to me. I already know what you were doing,” she said, and I gulped.
“Mrs. Addams, we were just playing,” Riley said, and my mum simply shook her head.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with you girls. When will you finally mature and start acting like adults?” she asked in her usual scolding tone.
“Mum, we were just playing, okay?” I said.
“Yeah. Anyway, how’s school lately?” she asked as she began peeling the orange she was holding.
“Fine,” we both answered at the same time.
She nodded.
“Okay, I’m going to talk to you later. Make sure you start thinking and acting more maturely.”
I rolled my eyes, and Riley noticed, immediately smirking.
“Mrs. Addams, she just rolled—”
I quickly cut her off by placing my hand over her mouth.
“Bye, Mum!” I said before hanging up.
I slowly turned to Riley and glared at her.
The door opened, and Em walked in, already dressed.
We had planned to go to the movies, and I wanted to take a quick glimpse at Rhys before we left, but this b***h had to interrupt me.
“You guys are so ready to go,” she said sarcastically.
I gave her a pleading smile.
“Blame her, not me,” Riley said.
I wanted to hit her, but she quickly ran out of the room.
“You two are more like my kids,” Em muttered before heading toward the door. “You have ten minutes to get ready.”
She left and closed the door behind her.
. . .
I came out of my room already dressed. I wore a black leather jacket and a denim skirt with a touch of makeup, just in case I bumped into Rhys.
“Dolling up for her boy again?” Riley asked.
I glared at her.
“Chubby, we’re going to the movies, not campus,” Em said as we stepped into the car.
“We might bump into him. Who knows?” I said hopefully.
She simply nodded.
The car pulled up in front of the cinema, and we went inside. We settled into our seats with popcorn and soda in our hands as the movie started.
It was actually a horror movie, Final Destination: Bloodlines.
We sort of liked watching horror movies more than romance, although I preferred reading romantic books to watching romantic movies.
The movie continued, and we heard a few gasps from the audience.
I stood up and walked toward the washroom. On the way, I accidentally bumped into a couple who were kissing.
“Sorry!” I said quickly, covering my eyes before hurrying past them.
I headed into the washroom and splashed some water on my face before wiping it dry.
“Oh, I can’t believe I wiped off my makeup,” I complained.
I sighed before leaving the washroom, completely unbothered.
As I walked around, I suddenly realized I had lost my way.
Great.
I kept bumping into people I didn’t know as I tried to find my way back.
I pulled out my phone and tried calling Em, but someone suddenly bumped into me, causing my phone to fall.
The person picked it up.
I looked up…
And froze.
A pair of dark eyes stared back at me.
Eyes I had grown to love so much.
Rhys was here.
Oh my gosh.
I didn’t f*****g have my makeup on.
I felt so embarrassed.
“Is this yours?” he asked, his accent making my heart flutter.
“Y-yes,” I stuttered.
“Didn't think horror was your genre,” he said.
I simply nodded.
I couldn't get myself to speak properly. I was too nervous.
“Here’s your phone,” he said, handing it back to me.
I quickly took it.
“Thank you.”
He leaned slightly closer, and his familiar scent reached me.
The scent I had grown to associate with him.
“I didn’t know you were a stalker either. Has stalking me become your hobby?” he whispered teasingly.
I froze.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lied.
He gently lifted my chin, his gaze studying my face.
“Liar,” he said.
His eyes briefly dropped toward my lips before meeting my eyes again.
I gulped.
Then he pulled away.
“Wait,” I said as he turned to leave.
“What?” he snapped.
I was taken aback.
He hadn't sounded this harsh a moment ago.
Did he have mood swings or something?
“I was wondering if you’d like to grab a coffee with me,” I asked hopefully, waiting for his answer.
“No. Never.”
And just like that, he walked away.
I was left standing there, feeling completely dejected.
I just got rejected.
Again.
It’s only one rejection.
I’ll have to try harder.
I’ll keep trying until he finally says yes.
I motivated myself before I heard my name.
“Myra! We’ve been looking for you. Where the hell have you been?” Riley asked as she and Em walked toward me.
“I went to the washroom and lost my way,” I explained.
“Okay. The movie is over. Let’s go home,” Em said.
I nodded before following them out.
