Adonis soon broke eye contact, focusing on what next Karene decided to do.
'Damn, that was scary.'
[The strength of his wolfwill is so strong I thought I would suffocate. But he doesn't seem to be too interested in us.]
'Does that mean he doesn't recognize me?'
Now that I think of it, in the forest, I was in my wolf form. I didn't change back till I got back home so there is no way he would recognise me in this unshifted state.
I'm safe, for now. This man is too dangerous to get involved with.
Karene was quick to catch on to the nature of the situation. Without missing a beat, she quickly picked herself up and threw herself at Adonis's feet.
"Forgive me for I have sinned." Her tone carried great fear.
"Lycan Prince, my mate has disrespected you today and brought shame to my whole family. Show us mercy this once, I promise to discipline her properly." Beta Jax, followed suit.
Everywhere went silent, waiting for the Lycan prince's verdict. On the other hand, he looked very bored.
He only waved his hands, sparing no words.
"If she is eligible, let the girl participate. And Beta Jax, get your family affairs in check. I would not tolerate such a scene again." Alpha Jared warned sternly.
"Yes, Alpha Jared." Karene and Beta Jax spoke in unison and quickly got up, tucking themselves out of sight.
"Let the trials begin." The selection master resumed at once.
I joined the others and did my best to avoid Kahl and Amalisa's glares. If looks could kill, I would be dead a hundred times over by now.
The duel pairings were done randomly. We all handed out names written into a ball, and put in a box that got shaken vigorously. Then the selection master's two assistants picked one ball each from the box. The names in those balls must duel.
These pickings were done in the moment and never in advance, hence nobody knew of their turns. If the number of contestants were odd, the last person would have to duel with the Selection master. Thankfully, it wasn't the case in this scenario.
As expected, the duels were bloody, and with the stronger wolf quickly dominating the weaker one, especially with the Lycan prince present, everyone wanted to show off their worth.
There were twenty-six of us present. Eleven duels later, I, Amalisa, and two others remained. There was a good chance I would have to duel with Amalisa, with my terrible luck, it was more likely than not.
Soon, the participants for the twelve duel were called up.... surprise... surprise... Leaving I and Amalisa to face each other for the finale.
Amalisa looked at me and smiled. Running her thumb across her neck, she mouthed, "You're dead."
I ignored her taunts. But that didn't mean I wasn't worried. No matter how much I hate Amalisa, I can't deny her strength. After Khal, she is the strongest in our generation. For me who has just gotten my wolf, this puts me at a great disadvantage.
However, when I shifted, I felt Atlas's strength and she's nothing to scoff at. There's no way I'm going down without delivering a hit or two. I'm not the same old pathetic, wolfless Celeste.
"Next duel, Amalisa Frostkin, and Celeste Frostkin. Step into the arena."
'This is it.' I nudged Atlas.
[Let's do this. I can't wait to rip her face off!] Atlas growled.
"I can't believe you dared come up here Celeste. I'd have to admit, you've got guts. But this is where it ends for you." Amalisa hissed.
"You must be panicking now. I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself. To get an easy win like this insults the sanctity of this test. Forfeit the duel and I'll let you off."
Everyone watched in silence waiting for how I'd respond.
Amalisa was blatantly looking down on me. You could see it in her eyes. You could see it in everyone's eyes. A disgusting weak omega dares to challenge for the Red Order; they all craved to put me in my place.
However, I wasn't going to give them that satisfaction. I have to change my fate, right here and now or stay a breeder forever.
"You talk too much. Don't tell me you're scared of facing me. Shut up and let's do this." I taunted back.
"YOU!... hah....nice, I'm gonna enjoy this," Amalisa growled menacingly as she shifted into her wolf.
Shit. Things just got real.
Without missing a beat, Amalisa attacked me immediately. Her first attack packed such power that if I didn't dodge in time, I'd be minced meat.
Luckily, I've seen Amalisa fight dozens of times and I know her attack patterns. As long as I stay alert, I can avoid most of her blows.
Five minutes into the duel, I've somehow managed to narrowly evade all of her blows. On the other hand, Amalisa got more impatient by the second.
She couldn't believe a mere omega was giving her such a hard time. "Hey, do you only know how to dodge? Stop avoiding me like a coward and fight me head-on." Amalisa roared in anger.
"I'm getting serious now won't go easy on you anymore." She huffed.
She unexpectedly lunged at me with her sharp claws outstretched. It was so quick that I barely escaped in time to not be torn apart.
I could feel blood roar in my ears as adrenaline pumped throughout my body from the near-death experience.
[That was close.]
'I know. I thought I'd wear her out a little bit this is my limit.'
"Hey what's the meaning of this? Why haven't you shifted yet." Someone yelled from the crowd of spectators.
"Do you think this is child's play or do you aim to insult us?"
"Don't you know? I heard she doesn't have a wolf!"
"She doesn't have a wolf. How's that possible."
"Makes sense she hasn't shifted because she has no wolf!"
"Boooo!"
"Looks like they've finally caught on to your incompetence," Amalisa scoffed,
"What's going on?" I muttered, feeling the sudden influx of negative energy on me.
"You're an insult to our kind!"
"Get off the arena, wolfless b***h!"
"I'M NOT WOLFLESS. I HAVE A WOLFWILL" I screamed, unable to bear their vile taunts.
"Shut up and get off the arena. f*****g Omega."
'Take Over, Atlas'
[Okay]
I fell on all limbs, growling fiercely as I began to shift. Amalisa took a step back in shock and everyone watched with bated breaths.
"Ughh... Ah!" I screamed as a surge of excruciating pain suddenly ran through my body like a thunderbolt.
My eyes saw in circles and my feet felt like heavy logs. I could barely hold myself up. My white fur began to recede immediately.
"W-what going on?"
[It's not working! I can't take over!]
"What?"
Thud!
It happened in a flash. While I was disoriented, Amalisa took to opportunity to strike me down
"Win.... Ama..... ...kin!"
My ears were ringing. I can barely hear the announcements being made but I had a rough estimate of what was going on.
"f*****g Omega, what if you have a wolf? You can't even shift properly!"
Before I knew it, tears began to roll down my face. I fought and I failed miserably. No matter how much I struggle, I always get the short end of the stick.
"Serves the b***h right. How dare she be so weak and still compete for the Red order. f**k, even I know not to get involved and I'm a Beta!"
Guess I have to accept it. I'm destined to be a breeder for the rest of my life. How embarrassing.
"All of you, gather!" Alpha Jared commanded all of a sudden.
"Your Highness, did you find who you were looking for?"
"I'm not sure." The Lycan prince left his seat and stood before us.
We all stood still in fear as he surveyed us intently. A while later, he raised his hand pointing into the crowd of participants. I tried tracing the directions he was pointing at.
Wait. Why... is he pointing at me?
"The two of you must come with me to Hazel Peak Dual Academy."
