Chapter four

THE AUCTION HOUSE BASEMENT VAULT PT 1 Cassandra’s heels clicked against the floor as she moved through the empty auction house. It was well past midnight and the grand halls were silent, the lights were dimmed. At thirty-four, Cassandra carried herself with the same precision she brought to every auction. Her alabaster skin looked even paler under the lights, her platinum hair pulled into a tight bun that left her long neck exposed. The charcoal silk blouse hugged her full breasts and narrow waist, while the matching pencil skirt clung to the curve of her lower body. Diamonds sparkled at her ears and throat. She was here alone because she preferred it that way. The rare private collection had arrived that afternoon, and she wanted to catalog every piece herself before tomorrow’s bidding. She preferred doing this herself with no assistants. The basement vault door stood open. Cassandra stepped inside, the temperature dropping slightly as the climate-controlled air brushed over her skin. She set her tablet on the steel table and began working, her fingers moving efficiently over the screen as she noted condition reports and provenance details. The sound of footsteps made her pause. Grayson entered without knocking. At fifty-one, he was tall and broad, his iron-gray hair cut short and sharp. His hawk-like features made him look exactly like what he was; a man who could bend the world as he pleased. He wore a tailored black coat over a dark shirt, and his presence instantly filled the room. “Mr. Grayson,” Cassandra said, straightening. Her voice stayed cool and professional. “The auction is tomorrow. Viewing hours ended at six.” “I know,” he replied, his voice low and rough. “I want one final look at the Delacroix before I bid.” She studied him for a moment. Grayson was a known buyer, private, ruthless, and obscenely wealthy. He had purchased several high-value pieces through the house in the past two years, always paying in full and never negotiating. She had no reason to refuse him, even at this hour. Cassandra nodded once. “Very well, but make it quick. The vault locks automatically at one.” She turned back to her tablet, but she could feel his eyes on her. It felt like he was watching her Nd with his gaze burning through her skin, the silk of her blouse suddenly felt too tight across her breasts. She ignored the sensation and led him deeper into the vault, her heels clicking steadily. They stopped in front of the Delacroix painting, a dark, sensual nude from the artist’s later period. Grayson stood close enough that she caught the faint scent of his cologne, it was something woody and expensive. He studied the canvas in silence for a long minute. “Beautiful piece,” he said finally. “Provenance is solid?” “Impeccable, private European collection for three generations. No gaps.” Cassandra answered. He turned his head and looked at her instead of the painting. His gaze moved slowly down her body, lingering on the way the silk blouse stretched over her chest, then lower to the tight line of her skirt against her thighs. “You always look so perfectly controlled, Cassandra, you are literally the ice queen in auctions.” he said, his tone dry. Her pulse jumped. She kept her face neutral. “It’s my job to maintain order.” Grayson stepped closer under the pretense of examining a small bronze sculpture on the pedestal beside her. The air between them suddenly thickened. She could feel the heat radiating from his body, smell him and she couldn’t see past him. “You’re very good at it, but I wonder how long you can keep that up.” he murmured while looking deeply into her eyes. Cassandra’s breath caught for half a second. She felt the first unwelcome feeling of heat low in her belly. She hated how her body reacted, she was supposed to be untouchable. Before she could answer, a heavy click echoed through the vault. The massive steel door swung shut on its automatic timer. The locks engaged with a series of final thuds. The lights stayed on but the outside world was now cut off until morning. Cassandra turned sharply toward the door. “No.” Grayson didn’t move, but his lips curved in slow smile. “I know the schedule. I’ve been watching for weeks,” he said simply. Her heart slammed against her ribs. She walked quickly to the control panel and pressed the emergency release but nothing happened. The keypad blinked red, and they were sealed inside the climate-controlled vault until the morning staff arrived. She spun back to face him. “This is unacceptable. I need this opened now.” “I can’t, and neither can you.” He said with a calm voice. “You caused this! We could have been out of here by now, you delayed purposely so we would be looked in,” she accused. Grayson just stared at her deeply without arguing or trying to deflect her accusations. He just took a deep breath and slowly began to circle her quietly. Cassandra stood very still, her hands at her sides. The silk blouse suddenly felt too thin. She could feel her n*****s tightening against the lace of her bra, a traitorous response she couldn’t stop. “I’ve watched you for months,” Grayson continued, in his conversational tone. “Every time you stand on that podium, looking cool and controlled I want to see you tick, I want to see you lose your control and everytime they push you too far, you take a deep breath and suddenly you are serene again. I want to see you lose all of that. I want to know what is under that perfect façade Cassandra.” Her mouth went dry. Heat crawled up her neck. She wanted to deny it, but the words stuck in her throat. The vault felt smaller now, the air thicker. She could hear her own breathing, it was slightly faster than before. Grayson stopped in front of her, towering over her five-foot-seven frame. He didn’t touch her. He simply looked down, holding her gaze until she felt the weight of it between her legs. “You’re wet already, aren’t you? just from being trapped here with me. From knowing you can’t walk away.” He raised his brow. Cassandra’s thighs pressed together instinctively. The smooth silk of her panties was already damp against her p***y. She hated how right he was. The secret hunger she had buried for years, the deep, aching need to surrender completely stirred hard inside her. “No,” she whispered, but her voice lacked conviction. Grayson’s smile widened, slow and knowing. He let the silence stretch. The only sounds were the low hum of the climate system and the rapid beat of her heart in her ears. He didn’t move closer. He didn’t have to. His presence alone pressed against her like a physical force. She felt her c**t throb, her breasts felt heavy, n*****s stiff and sensitive against the silk. The pencil skirt suddenly seemed too tight across her ass, the fabric brushing her skin with every small shift of her weight. Grayson reached into the inside pocket of his coat. He pulled out a pair of velvet-lined handcuffs. The metal gleamed under the lights. He held them up between them, letting them dangle from one finger. Cassandra stared at the cuffs. Her p***y clenched hard, a fresh rush of wetness soaking into her panties. Her breath came faster now, shallow and quick. “You’re going to give me what you’ve never given anyone else tonight,” Grayson said, his voice low and certain. “Complete surrender.” He didn’t move yet. He simply held the cuffs, watching her face, waiting for the moment she understood there was no way out, and that no part of her truly wanted one.
