Chapter 11 Poetic Justice(1) Clara Jacklin's phone rang, displaying a number she had hoped never to see again. The art thieves, now masquerading as legitimate collectors, wanted to discuss a potential purchase. "Clara, we've been following your work, and we must say, it's impressive," the caller said, his voice dripping with insincerity. "We'd like to acquire some of your pieces for our collection." Clara's grip on the phone tightened. "You're the ones who stole my art, sold it without my consent, and now you want to buy more from me?" The caller chuckled. "Water under the bridge, Clara. We're willing to pay top dollar for your work now." Clara's rates had skyrocketed since her collaboration with Prospero Miguel. Her art was in high demand, and she knew her worth. "I'm afraid my prices have gone up significantly since our last... encounter," Clara said, her voice sweet as honey. "My current pieces start at $50,000. And for you, I'll add a special 'poetic justice' surcharge – an additional 50%." The caller spluttered, taken aback by Clara's boldness. "You're bluffing! We'll find someone else to sell us your art at a reasonable price." Clara laughed, a triumphant smile spreading across her face. "Good luck with that. My art is worth every penny, and I won't settle for anything less. You should have thought of that before you stole from me." With a satisfied click, Clara ended the call, feeling a sense of closure and vindication. Her art, her worth, and her name were no longer up for negotiation.
