"Come in!" I heard the couple shout. I opened the door to see Alpha Johnston sitting behind his desk, stacks of paper sprawled out over it. Luna Lucinda, beside him with her hands tugging at his shoulders. Her hair was slightly messy and a flush covered her cheeks as well as his. Oh! I surely just interrupted them fooling around as I could feel the s****l tension high in the air.
"I'm sorry for interrupting. I just needed to speak with Luna Luinda for a moment, if it is alright?" I said shyly, feeling the heat pool into my face with embarrassment.
"Oh! Is it about the book I left in your room? If so, you're more than welcome to speak freely with both of us, as it was given to you with the alpha's permission." A small, tight-lipped smile formed on her usually perky face as she waved her hand towards a chair for me to sit in. I closed the door behind me, taking my seat in the assigned chair offered to me. I had so many questions rolling through my head, I didn't know which one to start off with first. The only one I could really think of and truly wanted to know was, "How do you know of my father?"
"Did you read the portion I pointed out to you, dear?"
"No. But, I know this has to be about him. Doesn't it? I know of the Bloodsong lineage from my teachings at school. It's a lineage descended from the first vampire king, Damascus Bloodsong. The last of his bloodline is the current king, Emrick Bloodsong. Their surnames were given because of their gifts. The song of blood sated their thirst without causing any harm to a single person. They only feed and kill to seem more normal to the other vampire kingdoms. The whole Bloodsong lineage has been passed down through males. No daughter has ever been born of that bloodline, only mated or married into. So if you think he's my father, you would have to be very wrong." I spat out as quickly as I could. Tears threatened to swell up in my eyes. There was a quiet pause for a moment as they both looked aimlessly at me. I was feeling hurt and fear of not knowing... or knowing who my father was.
"Open the book and see for yourself, dear. There are pictures as well. You'll see why I brought this book to your attention once you just look. You turn eighteen in just a few short days. All we want for you is for you to truly know who you are, who your father is, and what your mother tried so hard to keep from you. Look, and we'll explain our reasoning afterwards."
I sat there for a moment. I knew I wanted to know who my father was, and that the answers might be sitting right in my lap within this book. But, what would this actually mean for me? I didn't know if I wanted to go down this rabbit hole alone.
"Can the twins be here? I don't want to find out if it's true without them." A singular tear had escaped from my eyes as it landed on the back of my hand, the hand gripping the book which now felt like my lifeline.
"Sure, honey. I'm sure they would want to be here too. If the answers aren't what you would've hoped them to be, we would all be here for you." I watched as her eyes glazed over as she mind-linked the twins, a minute had passed and then another before the door came bursting through the door. Keiran was the first as Killian shoved him out of the way. Instantly, Keiran was at my side as soon as he caught sight of me. Killian was so outraged by being pulled from his training.
"Really? I had to be pulled from training for this? She has her ma-" He was interrupted by Lucinda shushing him.
"Killian! Now is not the time and she could use support from both of you. So quit being an air head and wait patiently beside your friend and brother."
Lucinda really knew how to crack a whip if she had to. Killian, still fuming a bit, did as she said and sat beside me. Kerian to my left, his arm draped over my shoulders as usual, causing an unusual wave of emotions to calm me, more than usual. I felt my lids become heavy as my body began to slump against him.
"Keiran! Now is not the time nor place. Leave her be if you can't get a handle on it. You're putting the poor girl to sleep." Alpha Johnston snapped. As quickly as the weighted feeling came to me, it left along with Keiran's arm. I had already begun to mourn the absence of his touch. Shaking the feeling from my body both mentally and physically, I inhaled a deep breath which caused my lungs to ache before I quickly exhaled in a huff.
" Okay! I can do this." I tried to give myself a pep talk. Opening the book, I gingerly flipped through the pages searching for that name. " Bloodsong... Bloodsong...Bloodsong. Oh! There it is." I stopped on a page for the last Bloodsong relative. There was a picture of a devastatingly handsome older gentleman dated in a black inky scripture "1888". The man wasn't pale in complexion like you would expect most vampires to be. No, his complexion was similar to mine. A rich olive-tone that stood out beneath his shoulder-length raven-colored hair. His eyes were a deeper shade of purple than mine, showcasing a ruby-colored ring around the irises. He was dressed in a formal black suit, Oro Versailles it seemed. Too rich for my taste, it seems. But, the necklace he was wearing was what truly caught my eyes, ignoring all the obvious similarities between us. A silver chain bearing a wolf pendent howling at a ruby-colored moon, the same one I had in my bedroom. I searched over the page with squinted eyes for the name of this man and to my surprise. It was none other than King Emrick himself. King Emrick Hale Bloodsong. My middle name... AHB...
My name was really Amaris Hale Bloodsong.
