A week had passed since that meeting with Alpha Johnston and my mother. It was a bit more intense than I had really expected, but more refreshing to know I am no longer under my mother's thumb. The twins had heard about Isabelle's exile from the pack and felt just as relieved as I am. Alpha Johnston had sent two of his best warriors to my home...no...my prison, to retrieve what small amount of belongings I had. Clothes were easily replaceable. What I truly cared for was my laptop, study books, and my silver jewellery box with the initials "AHB" engraved beneath the lid, a lullaby thrummed gently as you opened it. I was always curious as to what song the tune originated from. I never really knew what the "B" stood for, but my mother always said it was something my father had left behind when he disappeared. With it being from my father, she wanted nothing to do with it. Inside it was a necklace with a pendant of a wolf howling at a ruby-red moon. It also had been engraved saying ," My little wolf, I am always with you." I rubbed the pendant between my fingers, silently wishing that what was engraved was true, but it was not. If he were with me, I wondered if things would have been different with my mother. Would she have been a completely different person? Would she have been the loving mother I deserved?
I placed the necklace back in the box, tucking the box gently into the drawer of the nightstand. I never wore the necklace, and always kept the box wrapped in a soft white cloth, in hopes of not tarnishing it. The room the alpha gave me in the pack house was on the third floor of the manor, the same floor as the twins, Keiran and Killian. The room was very spacious, almost the size of the house I had grown up in. The walls were tapered with floral wallpaper and white trimming. The floors were covered in various rugs. One had a floral pattern of lillies and rose buds. Another, marigolds and tulips. The best looked to be a king-sized mattress on a mohangany four-post bedframe draped with lilac-colored duvets and throw pillows. There was a small living space within the room as well, as I spotted two small lavender loveseats positioned around a mohagany coffee table. A fireplace with riverstone edging was across from the loveseats, a large flatscreen television was mounted above its mantle. There was also a work space that was decorated with a plume of books on a nearby bookcase, an l-shaped desk placed in a corner with several assortments of papers, pens, journals, and what seemed to be a singular sticky note. I picked the note up and noticed it was handwritten for me. "There is a book on your book shelf I found from our archives. It may have some answers you are looking for. Search under the name "Bloodsong". Love- L"
Why would a book from the alpha's archives be so important to me? And who is "L"? I eyed the bookcase in front of me as one book stood out more over the others. Its spine was much thicker and decorated with golden inlay, the title reading "The Descendants of the Vampire Kings". The title left me with more questions than answers. I decided to text the twins and see if they knew anything about this book.
Killian:
"Hey! Did you happen to leave a book in my room? I texted, and he quickly replied.
"Now, why would I even be near your room? It's bad enough I'm stuck living on the same floor as you. You snore so damn loudly."
"Hey now! I don't snore. It must be your brother... Or you just waking up to the sound of yourself." I jested.
"Yeah! Yeah! Whatever. Why don't you ask him? I'm busy right now."
" M'kay! TTYL!"
Keiran:
"Hey! Since Killian didn't do it, did you happen to leave a book in my room?"
"No... Is this a subtle hint for me to come to your room?" He texted back with a winking face.
"Uh, no....", How do I even justify an answer to that? "I just noticed a note on my desk and a new book on my shelf. I was curious if one of you two had an idea who it came from?
"What did the note say?" He responded back quickly. I decided to take a picture of the note and send it to him. After waiting several minutes, he finally responded.
"Go to mom. She's the one who left it. That's her handwriting. But, I don't know why she told you to search under "Bloodsong"... You're a werewolf. You don't have the scent of a vampire's blood in you at all."
"Okay. Thank you. I will ask her myself then."
"Keep me updated, please. If you need me to be there with you, I'm just a howl away."
I couldn't help but giggle at his last comment. It left me even more curious now, though. I grabbed the book, tucking it gently under my gray sweater, which made me look bulky. It was not at all obvious that I was hiding something rather large under my shirt.
I turned and made a quick exit out of my room, practically running to the alpha's study where I knew both of them would be. I knocked on the door as I tried to gather my nerves and take in some air into my burning lungs.
"Come in!"
