Chapter Six

"What does this mean for me?" I asked with bated breath. My heart is pounding like a war drum in my chest. If this man was really my father, would he even want me back after leaving us so long ago? Why did he truly leave in the first place? "It means that we will need to make a phone call to him. I'll set up an official meeting with him within the next few days before your birthday. Maybe I can even talk him into staying for as long. Would you like to be here when I call?" Alpha Johnston said. Without hesitation, my head began to nod. The shaking in my hands did not go unnoticed by Keiran as he quickly gripped them in his. His touch calmed me with those soothing sparks. I'll have to ask him if he notices them as well later. "Okay." Alpha Johnston said as he picked up his office phone, quickly pressing each button, then placing it on the speaker. Each ring made me more anxious about hearing his voice. It rang maybe three or four times before a female voice answered. Not the male voice I was hoping to hear. "This is Queen Victoria. May I ask who is calling?" The voice said. It was chirpy and sweet. "Your Highness, this is Alpha Johnston from the Ravenwood pack. I was hoping to have a word with Emrick, please. It's quite urgent and of dire importance." A moment of silence lasted for a mere ten seconds before a male spoke. "John, my friend! How have you been? What is so urgent that you finally call me after all these years?" "Emrick... I'm not going to beat around the bush about this." Alpha Johnston paused, sneaking a glance in my direction every so often. " Isabelle Crowe's daughter is here with me. I was hoping you could clear some things out for me." "Isabelle? She had another child?" His voice had became shaky with each breath. "No, Emrick. How long ago had it been since Isabelle rejected you? When she claimed she had lost her child?" "John, you know how long it has been. It's been eighteen years ago. My daughter would've been eighteen in just a few days. Why are you bringing this up knowing that?" Emrick asked, clearly a bit annoyed by the subject. "The girl I have in my office turns eighteen in just a few short days. My friend, I think Isabelle lied to you about losing your child. Instead, she put this girl through so much torment all these years and is a serious threat to Amaris." "Amaris? That's impossible! I saw the injuries to Isabelle's abdomen when she told me. She said a rogue had attacked her, causing her to lose our baby. I heard no other heartbeat within her besides her own." Emrick paused before speaking again. "May I speak with Amaris?" Alpha Johnston stared at me, seeing if I was okay with the request. I didn't see where the harm was, so I gave a subtle nod, approaching the phone. "Hello?" I said with hesitation, my voice shaky. It felt like an eternity waiting for him to reply back. "Hello?" "John, I will be there in two days' time. I will bring Victoria and the kids with me. Amaris, I will see you then, my little wolf." A click soon followed, ending the call. I stilled, as all eyes traveled from the phone to me. I could feel the mixture of emotions traveling in my direction. Happiness. Concern. Fear. But, the strongest emotion I could feel was love. "Can I go back to my room now?" Exhaustion began to wash over me fast. "That's fine, dear. The twins will walk with you. Remember, we're here if you need to talk." cooed Luna Lucinda. I didn't respond back. I just gave the slightest nod and turned on my heels, exiting the office and straight to my bedroom while the twins trailed me the whole way in silence. Making it to my door, I stop, my hand clinging to the knob half-turned. I turned to face the twins, again, that concern look stained on their faces, a mirror image of each other. Well, all except for their eyes. The colors of their eyes seemed to glow a bit more during this moment. "Thank you for walking me to my room. But, there's no need for concern, guys. I've waited almost eighteen years for answers. What's two more days? But..." I knew I needed to ask Keiran about the sparks his touch elicits. "Killian? Do you mind if I have a moment alone with Keirna? I have something to discuss with him in private." His face that was once of concern was quickly replaced with annoyance. That's the Killian I'm more used to now. "Whatever", he puffs out with a wave of his hand. He turns away and stomps down the stairs, clearly making his way back to the training arena. Keiran, on the other hand, stared at me, a singular brow shot up and a coy smile forming. "In private, huh? In your bedroom? Anything I should be worried about? Or excited about?" He teased with a wave of his eyebrows. I gave him a sharp slap with the back of my hand on his shoulder. "Pervert! Just come in, and leave that gutter mind out there. It's kind of important," I said as I began shoving him into my bedroom. "Pushy, pushy. I'm going, okay?" He jested. Once we were inside the confines of my room, I quickly began throwing my questions and concerns at him. "Please tell me you feel it too!" I spat out. "Feel what?" "Just... Just give me your hand. I'll show you." I said, reaching for his hand, not giving him a chance to rebuke. That same subtle spark of electricity traveling beneath the skin and forming a bundle of nerves within my chest. "That! Do you feel it?" "I feel that your hand is super clammy," he chuckles. "I'm serious, Keiran. Do you feel the sparks when we touch? It's been driving me crazy the past couple of days." I stared at Keiran. He tensed up suddenly, his grip on my hand tightening only slightly. "Of course I feel it, Amaris. Dad had instructed me not to say anything until you came to me about it. I guess this would count as that moment. What I'm confused about though, is why you can feel that this early?" "What do you mean by "this early"? And, why would he ask you not to tell me until then?" I said, sounding a bit baffled. "I can show you why but.... You have to let me kiss you to show you." That coy smile painted back on his handsome face again. "What? Why do you need to kiss..." He cut me short of my question. "Please, Amaris. Just humor me a moment. You'll at least get an idea of what it is. And, promise me you won't slap me afterwards." "Jesus! Fine. But, don't get any ideas. You understand?" I shot out, receiving a nod in return. We stood there in silence, our hands still latched together. Keiran closed the gap between us with a single, yet slow, movement. He lifted his free hand to caress my cheek, stroking it with his thumb in small circular motions. His hand traveling behind my neck, those same sparks of electricity dancing across my skin, pulling me closer to him as his lips graze mine tenderly. I close my eyes as our lips connect and mold against each other. My body moved against him to deepen the kiss. My lips parted to grant his tongue entry. Heat began to pool in the pit of my stomach as the scent of him invaded my senses. The smell of the air before rain falls. "Mate!" a voice rings in my head. A voice I've never heard before, but familiar all the same. I shoved back against Keiran, breaking the heated kiss. We were both left quite breathless. "What was that?" I panted. "A kiss?" Keiran says in confusion. I shushed him with a finger as I listened for the voice again. "Shhhh. Not you." I whispered. I strained my hearing, hoping to get a reply. "Mate. He's our mate." "Who are you?" I asked, not realizing I had said it outloud. "What are you okay, Amaris? Do I need to call a pack doctor?" He asks, placing a hand on my forehead. I swiped it away, paying no attention to his words. "I am your wolf. I am Onyx. But, maybe you should keep our conversations in your head and not respond out loud. You're worrying mate." She cooed, her voice smooth like silk. My gaze drifted back to Keiran, worry clear in his eyes. "M...Mate?"
